  1. You should have a lovely trip. But don't use the drive through fast food .. use your coffee/food stops as a chance to get out and stretch your legs and pup's legs. Ask your vet about a little collection of first aid stuff to take with you. I took that across the Nullarbor .. long way between vets there .. thinks like antiseptic, pressure bandage, tummy settling stuff like Peptosyl. I haven't had to use anything yet ... touch wood .. but good to have. Sometimes changes of water can upset dogs, so maybe take a bit of a supply of your own, or bottled water. Having said that, again, I've had no trouble. Oh, and a pack of baby wipes is always handy :) .
  2. Chamois cooling coats are great. They stay wet for quite a long time, and are easy to wet again. Any of the evaporative cooling coats probably work better in a dry heat rather then humidity .. but I guess in humid conditions you could combine them with a fan.
  3. Road trips are fun. My guys have been from Tassie to WA, and to Queensland and points in between. Second the idea of a crate .. either wire or soft. Actually my BCs are in wire crates in the car .. they have their water bowls and mats in there. But I also have soft crates for them for sleeping in the dog friendly accommodation. My go to for finding dog friendly accommodation is www.stays.com.au .. choose pet friendly... although there are other sites. Just be aware that you may need to confirm that they are dogs inside friendly. I usually send an email enquiry, with a little bit of info about my well travelled dogs (who can provide references :D .) I usually aim to stop every two hours or so, although my guys are comfortable with longer stretches when necessary. Definitely a longer leash for your pup to explore a bit at stops (assuming it's safe.). And I usually plan to be driving a maximum of about 8 hours .. for safety. Make sure the details on the pup's microchip are up to date, particularly the second contact. And I haven't done it, but it's a good idea to do a flyer with a photo and details of your pup, including contact details.
  4. That's a bummer, Snook .. but it does seem from reading your posts over the months, that Justice is able to get his mojo back a little more quickly each time you work through your protocols. Just thought you and others might enjoy a dog training/walking friend's new strategy she's contemplating trying (or not :D ) next time an off leash dog is allowed to run up into her on-leash dogs' faces (older working BC and 2 little Paps). She plans to drop her own dogs' leads, and rush up into the offending owner's face, waving her arms around and saying "I'm friendly, I'm friendly". Might add, she's about 5' nothing, has a bit of a limp, and like me is no longer young. It's a lovely thought  .
  5. What a lovely picture (including the jacarandas. Danny looks like he's wondering what the fuss was all about, bless him.
  6. Bless the little man .. such a sweetie. You will do the right thing for him at the right time. Hate it when they get older .. Hugs.
  7. Somebody will hopefully be along soon who can help more ... and it might be worth asking in the Labrador breed subforum. Labrador subforum Just had a quick look in the puppy listings on the DOL homepage. Seems like as well as hip and elbow scores for parents (and extended family is good to know too), testing should also have been done for EIC. Exercise Induced Collapse, and PRA .. Progressive Retinal Atrophy. Presuming the breeder you're thinking of is registered with their state ANKC affiliate .. e.g Dogs Vic, or Dogs WA, you should be told which Register (Main or Limited) the pup would be on. Don't really know about prices, but those sort of prices would seem OK, I would have thought. ETA link to breed subforum.
  8. So admire your strength. WM .. and good to hear your planning all went well. Bless little Mac .... how lucky was he to have such wonderful humans to care for him till the end. Sarah and Andy will keep you busy now, I think.
  9. Thinking of you today .. have a lovely day with your little man. And thank you for sharing him with us.
  10. He is adorable. :) And now we need some up to date pics .. greedy aren't we :) .
  11. That was my thought too when I read the happy update ... Where are the new pictures????? Especially of the feet  . Seriously .. really glad it's going well.
  12. OMG, are you sure Hobbes is a dog, not a cat ... he's going through his nine lives like he thinks he's a cat. So glad your vet picked the problem up quickly and got onto it successfully. Best wishes for you and Hobbes.
  13. You've done an awesome job keeping Mac happy and comfortable for way longer than you thought initially, and although it's really sad to have reached the end of the road, hopefully your plans will work out so you all can take care of him till the end. WIll be a hard week, though. DOL thoughts are with you.

    Sleep Deprived!

That's good news all round. Thanks for updating. :D

    Sleep Deprived!

If she's just weeing when you take her out, then settling back down again, I might be checking for a UTI. Do you think she's weeling more frequently during the day?
  16. Darling boy .... can see his passing will leave a big hole. But take comfort in that you eased his way. At the end, that's all we can do. Treasure the memories.
  17. Sounds really encouraging. The weeing would probably be clearing the IV fluids I guess. Paws crossed she remains well. They do like to scare us.
  18. Wow ... what a great (and busy) year it's been for you and the kids .. 2 and 4 legs :D . Congratulations on all your achievements .. including the instructing.
  19. Knew I had a link somewhere to online source for 4 way connectors .. PVC fittings
  20. Hope the poor dog recovers well. Kudos to the owners for getting on to it quickly. If Tasmania is anything to go by, the paralysis tick (different kind of ixodes but still as problematic) is expanding its range. One of the implications of a warming climate, is that the range of critters like these is likely spreading into areas that previously could be regarded as tick free. The only saving grace down here at the moment is that the population of paralysis ticks seems to be sparse enough that a body check and vigilance is probably adequate.
  21. This Metric conversion is my go to for imperial to metric conversion.
  22. So glad you enjoyed it/found it useful. That's exciting!
