  1. Congrats on the good results in Adelaide - good to hear the cool change arrived in time. My NYE went well too - though we didn't get the cool change, even after the thunderstorm it was still hot at 10.30. However, my lovely friend who prepares and shows my BC Rory, managed to show him to a nice Best of Breed - 14 points, to take him to just over half way - 52 points. He got a good look in group too, but it was won by a lovely Beardie bitch - very prolific winner (sadly a Junior too, so no class in group) - but the Beardie went on to BIS - so no shame to be beaten by her. I was really pleased with him, as we had only got back on the ferry yesterday morning from a week in hot Melbourne.

  3. sounds like she did great!!! we wanna see her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah - c'mon nesss - I know you'r travelling today - but as soon as you get home, yes?
  4. What happened to Ness? do you have any vids of her? The rules for ANKC DWD comps are on the ANKC site ANKC DWD And yeah - I want to see Ness too - even though she wasn't quite the superstar - she still did well, by the sound of it.
  5. You're definitely not alone . Pressure with a clean gauze pad (or paper towel or something similar) helps to stop the bleeding, and applying styptic powder helps too.
  6. A tragic yes, but it's not even an obedience trial - we're going to a conformation show on NY eve - strts at 7.00 pm/ Should be fun, though.
  7. Well done Sal and Kenzie - I know you are tickled pink with the fact that she coped in new surroundings and the title was the icing on the cake. A nice start to her trialling career and a great way to finish the year - well done No excuses for obedience now :D ;) What Ptolomy said! Fantastic job Sal and both girls - especially the shy little midget feral. She certainly has done you proud. And good for you for having the courage to take the girls over and enter. Title and a first place - gotta be happy with that.
  8. What Piper said! And not only is it all too far, it also clashes with Agility Nationals way over the other side of the country. Darn it. These verstile BCs . Seriously, I envy you guys, and I'm sure it will be great - both the evening and the CT one.
  9. Good way to end the year, smisch. And especially good that Jock did his distance work in Open - once they get it, and handler and dog get confident about it, they're usually fine with all but really tricky challenges. And ont he first JDX pass. Looking forward to hearing how Denver's debut goes.
  10. Well done woodbyne - it's great, isn't it. My boy Rory has started having much better tug sessions now - thanks to one of the Dman tugs - he loooooves it.
  11. :D for the agility results LP - well done and congrats to Miss Kinta on that AD title. And Leo definitely should have got extra marks for creativity - as ness says, UD is like that - character building I used to like to think.
  12. They do have free shipping on about 30 items ... which lucky for me included wubba friends - I neded one to replace Krira's Wubba that Rory has nibbled the cover off. And of course you can't buy just one wibba friend ,,,,,
  13. I like to use body condition score charts like this 0r this. Actually, I think they're probably the same. Easy to do with a smooth coated dog - you have to use your hands as well as your eyes in a coated dog.
  14. Good that she's fine now. And yes, that'll be it, I'd reckon. Don't know about Interceptor Spectrum, but Sentinel Spectrum has to be given with a meal.
  15. Is she eating and behaving normally now? If so, I wouldn't worry too much - but make a mental not to pay attenton the next time she's due for worming. I only ever once gave a dog Chum - KelpieXBC with a cast iron stomach - she threw up the Chum - so the rest went in the bin. Have had my BC bitch do the yellow bile thing occasionally - does seem to indicate empty tum - fixed it pretty much with mine by giving them a biscuit at bed time. (Oh and mine are fed twice a day for what it's worth - and are wormed with Sentinel Spectrum - have been for a coule of years now with no problems.)
  16. Beautifully said, Kelly_Louise. So sorry, DW.
  17. DVD has the same title as the book - Control Unleashed. Cathy has it link here. And you have the perfect motivational tuggy right on hand - lamby tails - best thing ever in my Kirra's opiinion, Just tie one to a lead or a bit of light rope, and take that with you to training. As the others have said - lots of excitement and chasing around (that's dog chasing you) helps. Treat the dog like a pup when you're at training - let the dog do the tugging at first - even if only a little bit. ET make it a bit clearer, I hope.
  18. That's awesome, luvsablue and Beckie. Fantastic. Totally agree about older dogs still being able to compete and enjoy it. My first BC Sam never did get hsi UD title - but he was still having a great time trying. A couple of times even at age 11 or 12, he would get zeroed for anticipation in DJ or DR - one time he was on his way to the box as soon as the judge said "Are you ready" - Sam slowed and turned round part way out as if to say - Oops - something missing there. Judge and I were both laughing.
  19. Interesting question. I know with my first trial dog, my first BC Sam, if I could get him excited to the point of 'barking mad', he would have enough confidence to do his scent discrimination in the ring. If he gave a woof on the way ouit, I knew we were likely to be successful - so in his case, I think the woof was an excited one. (This was a few years ago, before the really positive training days - he could do SD perfectly in training, but it would come apart in the ring - my nerves would get to him I think. I remember Luci Ellem one day looking at him standing over the correct article he'd just identified, and saying "Help me, mummy, I need my sucky rug" - she was so right. )
  20. The feather duster is good. I have an old cheap synthetic one, which has made its way into Rory's toy stash. It made a perfect target for him to go to when I started some jump training with him the other night. And yesterday he was besotted with a plastic water bottle with some water still in it. He was carrying it round iwth him for ages as we were packing up - and was so excited by it I let him keep it in his crate for the trip home.
  21. Nice one, SecretKei - now there's a reward you CAN take into the ring with you.
  22. ;) Oh - then I'd better get busy. He is loving his target training to his yellow astroturf. Manages to get nose and two paws onto it .
  23. Gotta have a last little brag for the year on my BC Kirra. Last agility trial for the year down here on Saturday - and wegot a couple of nice quallies - 2nd place Q in Open Jumping to finish her JDO3, and a 1st place Q in Open Agility. We also had a good day in terms of DQs - only 2 out of 8 runs - good for me ;) - and quite a few near misses - she was a one bar wonder in the morning - my bad handling/timing causing it I think. We've made lots of contributions to the Canine Association this year - she's finished ADM, JDM, SD, ADO2, TDX and now JDO3 - good little girl.
  24. You're right, Seita - yes it is a double command - so I wouldn't be doing it in the context of heelwork or a whole exercise - just as a kind of stand alone thing. Just so that her muscle memory is built up for the kind of stand you want . (Just an idea from watching an English dvd that uses this to get the correct position for the dog relative to the handler.)
