Of the ones I've seen (including Helen's kids :D ) I would agree - the Brittanies have been more outgoing, more interested in people in general - perhaps a little more wacky - but in a nice way . I've only seen a limited sample of Welshies - lovely dogs, well trained - and fabulous tracking dogs - but that's even when they're not meant to be trackng
-
And this thread-crasher wishes all on here a happy Christmas - thanks for letting me visit

:D Tasmania hasn't had one for at least 20 years for Obedience - some of us have our agility height cards.
-
Saw it

Still awaiting for my second order (posted 6th/7th) - postie has already been, so unless there's an extra delivery tomorrow it'll be after Christmas now - but yes - post Christmas will be good, and they did get things from the first order (to say nothing of their coats from the time when they had coats on free shipping. Postie did bring me something today though - credit card bill

The rules (p.14) just say I'm pretty sure they haven't even thought about an official height card - yet, at least We've just had a couple of iinstructors measuring the dogs at the club, using the official wicket.

wuffles - well - in one way that's what you want in a performance dog - but my guys still have to learn to chill ;) . I used a 4'x4' C Crates play pen (with a lid) with little wanderer/troublemaker/escape artist Kirra. and would put her in there with a smoked bone stuffed with goodies to work on - or frozen chicken wings or something that was going to take a bit of work. :D

Yay for happy every after endings.

Sort of depends on pup and type of exercise and surface etc IMHO. I tend to allow ad lib free play (making sure nothing pup can fall off/jump off/get into ... etc) and ensuring regular quiet time. Tiny segments of 'training' - gentle luring/shaping or clicker training - mental exercise tires pups out way more than just physical. Getting used to the leash and collar - in the house yard at first - again tiny bits. For 'proper' grown up walks - the 5 mins per month of age sounds pretty much OK - but warn about heat, hot footpaths etc - and mix up the surfaces. Spending time teaching loose leash walking is time better spent in the early months (or any time really) than walking longer with the dog pulling. Exposure to as many different people, things, machines, sights and sounds is also more iportant in the early months than 'taking the dog for a walk' - making sure pup is (and feels) safe at all times. The more time spent bonding and building a good relationship with the pup the better - again mental stimulation tires pups out more effectively - and helps them to learn later. In terms of purely physical exercise, less is more. :D

High Calorie, Highly Palatable Foods For Sick Dogs
Tassie replied to Aidan3's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The truth in that is amazing. Well said, Aidan. Good luck and good strength to you both. So very true. You will stay strong for your girl - good thoughts for you both. -
Thanks for that, Helen - that's pretty much what I've been doing with mine - but finding it hard to get them to keep straight without the wall - probably lumping I think - will need to split ETA - haven't checked just now, but from memory, that station is Advanced and Excellent, isn't it - so a few more weeks to get it right ;)
-
@ Chazer - boy brains! Thanks for that link too - I already subscribe to kikopup's YouTube channel - love her stuff! Summer holidays start this afternoon - so the dogs and I might have some fun!!

Shouldn't be any problem. The obedience gloves are white - tracking articles are usually dark colours. And as Leema says, the whole context says tracking to the dog - in fact, arriving at a paddock or piece of bush will start to say tracking . Most people use socks as articles (you kow how you always have the lost socks ;) ), although you can use other things - and in TSD, you'll be using all sorts of things that people might have dropped, including old mobile phones, kids' toys etc. - by then the dogs have got their T Ch, and they usually have no difficulty swapping over to different articles - although we've found old phones to be a problem for some dogs.

Cosmolo - mine still hasn't arrived - darn Bass Strait

Has Proban Been Withdrawn From Sale?

Still waiting . Though I did get an email that they've put through a refund for a book I'd ordered which they now can't supply - not a problem - it was only an optional extra.

You don't want to know that my almost 10 year old BC girl would do exactly the same thing - except she would have pulled the whole shopping bag down. You need a Winpara boy - they do their counter surfing actually standing on the bench/table - then you don't need to pull things on to the floor - though come to think of it - Rory hasn't done that for a while :D
-
Thanks for posting the vids Helen - will have a play with that with my guys (but making sure I don't have shiny shoes ;) - no real risk of that
-
Yes - I use Sentinel Spectrum as my wormer and heartwormer (they don't need h/w here - but I keep it up for mainlnad trips.) It contains the required dose of praziguantel for treating tapeworm, including hydatid tapeworm - which dogs coming back into Tasmania are required to be wormed for. Novartis website

Your post made me go check ST - mine says the same - the order I placed on Dec 113 is now showing shipped. That definitely won't be beore Christmas - but I still have faint hopes for the one that was shipped December 6 - though it always seems to take extra time to get across Bass Strait.

Where To Buy / Get Newspapers For Upcoming Litter?
Tassie replied to Antoun's topic in General Dog Discussion
You could try asking at local schools. Especially at this time of year, there will be a lot of clearing out done, and could be piles of newspapers FTGH :D -
Having been clipped many a time, I now wear a helmet to Sunday training And where are the videos????? Guess that's one of the advantages of being long-distance disciples

RubyStar said about Ptolomy And not just in WA - there's a group of people down here in Tasmania who are also very grateful to WA DOLers for advice and inspiration (and commiserations :D )

The Corgi reminded me of this one from a while ago - what else can you do but laugh Impressive weaving from the red kids, Ptolomy.
