Have a great time in Melbourne Ptolomy and bedazzled ... and a successful one if you can  . DIdn't realise it was a 21st RS - super - glad you had a good day. :D
-
And another for a great explanation of a super important principle, Cosmolo. Thanks.

Yes, it's one of the crappy things about the disease. I don't like to be a little black cloud when this disease shows up in DOL dogs but I wish that when we went through it we knew ahead of time how serious it was and how likely it was that our dog would die. The vets said things like "he's a very sick boy", what I'd wished they said is "there is a good chance your dog will die" because perhaps then we might have been better prepared for the harsh reality. Atlas. So true, SSM. Because the treatment is so very aggressive, my vet wanted to hold off to get confirmation from a pathologist . so I took Sam home overnight and was to bring him back in the morning - but like Atlas, he didn't make it. I had spent a lot of the night reading about IMHA on the web, so I guess I knew the chances were tiny. I still (11 years later) wonder what would have been the right decision to make - to treat or not - had Sam made it back to the vets. He was 12.5 years old. I think sometimes fate just makes those decisions for us . Teebs - it seems to me you did everything right for Atlas, and it was fitting that you were with him at the end.
-
So let's be honest here ... you'll be the ones drinking whatever happens in UDX, right! Seriously .. good luck, and may the obedience gods smile on you and the boys.
-
So very, very sorry to hear that Teebs. I've been there with my first Border Colli, who succumbed to IMHA too - horrible condition that it is. Sending comforting thoughts to you, with tears in my eyes for Atlas, and for all the other good dogs who've gone from us. Take care of yourself now, and think of all the good times.

Ouch ... that must hurt bedazzledx2 . poor you, and poor Brookie - he does like to get things right for you, bless him.
-
Congrats kathq and Coco - wonderful reward for your long start and braving the cold.
-
Well done both teams. You guys are going great.
-
Yippee! That's a great brag TO. Clever pair you are.
-
 pers .. my first BC boy was like that - my other girl was hypothyroid, so oroxine twice daily - with treats - and of course Sam had to have treats as well - so when Sam was doing therapy dog work, he got very excited when he would hear the meds trolley coming - although he was always puzzled as to why the humans weren't getting any treats with their pills. BTW I usually give one or two unbaited soft bits, then the baited one rapidly followed by a couple of unbaited ones (BTW - totally solves any washover onto recall).

how disappointing is that. Oh well, their loss, I guess. Just a shame for the people that they affect, who miss out on doing fun stuff with their dogs. -
Another here who wouldn't be starting an 8 week old pup on h/w meds unless it's very hot where you are. Double check with your local vet, but I thought there was a window until they were about 5 or 6 months depending on temperatures and mosquitoes. I also wanted to welcome your cute pup, and suggest you come over to the Border Collie thread in the Breed subforums in General here :D

It was a great segment, wasn't it. I loved that Dr Harry 'got' that it it's a fun training thing to do with your dog, and the relationship is key, and presented that aspect strongly. The troops briefed him well. :D -
So sorry to hear you and At are going through this. No good news story to share I'm afraid - although I have heard of dogs surviving - and it sounds like your vet got onto it quickly. I just wanted to say don't feel bad about not reacting immediately - it does present at first as the dog being a bit off colour - and then can progress horribly quickly - did with my boy. And sometimes it's competely idiopathic - just hits out of the blue. Thinking good thoughts for you and At and sending good Tassie mojo.

@ MrsD .. I was really sorry not to have caught up with you. Thanks for the congrats..the kids topped off our trip last weekend with one Excellent Rally pass for Kirra, and 2 for Rory. Definitely don't pull out of the Ekka. @ Kallistar ...you know I loved that routine of yours...reckon you could do it again. Other than that..no help at all..so uncreative. :-) -
Quick and dirty version ... Change of direction, in front of the sign. Most others start level with the sign. Moving side step and stationary side step can be after.
-
Great results guys. Did anyone catch the faceplant on vid xena98 ? You did well to get yourself going so well after that.
-
Yay TSD sounds like an awesome day with both kids - at Em with Zig's tug - bless her. And sometimes a non-qually run can feel completely awesome - and is worth bottling anyway. Well donoe.
-
Oh how very sad for them. Can only imagine the heartbreak. Owey is to be commended for having followed through on the advice he got here ... and on putting the needs of the puppy first and foremost. I do hope the family can eventually get the healthy puppy they so deserve.

 There's a reason why Kirra has to be kep in the car or in the house when I'm trying to train Rory -

Thanks kallistar. We had lots of fun. There is video, I think, but not mine, so don't have access right now. Maybe later ..... :D Go on ness - give the old lady a run. It'll keep you off the streets if nothing else  -
I got them fro .m a stall at a trial I visited here in Queensland. Don't know where you can get them online ... sorry
-
Not that I want to enable or anything ... but I just bought a couple of new toys for Rory (like he needs any more), and they have two tone squeaks - one each end - louder than the original isqueaks . Made by PetStages in US - Rory's favourite is called a giant jellyfish .. bumper shape, about 20cm long.
-
Lol .... This was DWD ...train alone for that :-). But 2 bottles of Moet for the celebrations with my agility pairs partner ;-).
-
Double dipping here....but I'm so thrilled with my two becoming the first dogs in Tasmania to get DWD titles. Competed with them last night at Redlands and got 4 from 4 which finished their Starters titles in both Freestyle and HTM .. and Rory placed 3rd in FS and 1st in HTM , with Kirra 2nd.
