  1. Looks like it. It did look yesterday as though the slightly more advanced one was ready to go .. lots of wing flapping, and parent had left a bird for them to have a go at one their own .. which the more mature one was. So that was the same pattern as Collins St.
  2. Yes, I think that was what was being said on the other site. The older one was doing a lot of wing flapping this morning, and practising feeding from a carcass that parent had left in the nest .. so that one must be getting closer to flying .. based on what happened on the other site.
  3. More falcon chicks Not with a city view though ...
  4. It was lovely .. she had a smaller bird for breakfast, then had a few practices .. a hop up onto a small ledge above the nest .. then closer to the camera after a big lot of flapping .. and a lovely smooth take off.. One of the chicks was on a ledge further down a bit later .. and mum went back and retrieved the left overs from breakfast. Someone watching from Southbank said they'd seen the 4 - 2 on oneroof and 2 on another .. nearby the home ledge. Thanks so much @Rebanne for the original heads-up .. it has been an amazing experience watching this .. so much gratitude to the researchers and the admins of the sites for providing the opportunity, And not to enable or anything …. but the 2 chicks in the nest at Charles Sturt Uni at Orange are probably about a week away from flying.....
  5. Yes .. or kneeling and bending over and hiding your face while making funny noises .. cat meows .. that can treally get them started trying to find your face and the source of the noise.
  6. #2 was still there a few minutes ago .. sitting right under the camera.
  7. #2 is in view now .. sitting with her back to the edge ..close to the camera. Still has a tiny mohawk.
  8. Agree .. definitely a vet behaviourist .. not just a non-vet trainer. The dog will almost certainly need some medication (not just pet store calming treats) just so thaty the edge can be taken off what sounds like extreme distress, before any useful training/behaviour modification can happen.
  9. #2 was on camera after 6 when I was watching, but then people said she went up the other end. They may turn the camera around, because that other end is where Mum sleeps on the high bit of nest box, and #2 was sleeping there last night. Not that I'm addicted or anything. And not to be an enabler, but you can always check out the Charles Sturt University at Orange nest
  10. I'd suggest having a long tug toy .. preferably one with some bungee and some fur bits .. and having Yuna chase you to catch hold of the toy .. then have a good game of tug .. letting her win, then you win, then she pulls you .. until you're ready to end it (temporarily) .. make sure she will give you the tug … wait a moment .. then start the game all over again. You will need to be pretty excited and genuinely active in this .. not boring. You will see the value for you and the game growing. Once that's grown some, you can play things like hide and seek .. distract her, then hide, then as she finds you either have a game, or run away from her just as she's getting to you .. then have a game. Hopefully that will take the pressure off poor Hamish.
  11. Just looking at the FB watchers page .. it seems #1 flew yesterday .. #2 is very close .. has been spending time on the ledge, practising .. someone saw her "flying" from one end of the nest ledge to the off camera edge. Mum has been flying around a lot, presumably trying to encourage her.
  12. Hi there. If it's the ad on Gumtree, the number looks like a Dogs Tasmania registered member number. But definitely give the office at Dogs Tas a ring (they're only open 10.00 am - 2.00 pm daily. The office number is 03 62729443.
  13. They were both there a minute ago. Anyway ….
  14. There's a super close up now of one of them preening. Getting so ready to fly .. there was major wing exercising last night. And last night mum was just delivering the food and leaving the chicks to do their own sorting out.
  15. In addition to all the good advice already given … try to think in terms of behaviours and routines you want the puppy to do, and concentrate on training and rewarding those. If you see behaviours you don't want to see again, think whether there are ways you can manage things to prevent repeats … like confining the puppy to a safe and comfortable place .. crate, or xpen, or baby gated safe room, when you can't be actively supervising. Another way is to train (by heavily and consistently rewarding) behaviours that are incompatible with the behaviour you don't want … so … sitting when meeting people (to avoid the jumping up). Good luck with training the people not to encourage the jumping up . One thing I find really useful to train is a "wait for a release word" - so for instance, going through a door, I train a sit to wait in that instance ,, and work on pup holding that sit until I give the release word .. even if the door is open. Helps with impulse control, applies in any situations,... door, gate, car, crate, xpen …. and can be a life saver. And when pup is little, it's really important to get pup out and about in the world …. safely .. in your arms for instance, but so pup can get used to seeing and hearing the sights and sounds of the society. You want to make all these just neutral background "noise" for the pup. If pup shows signs of fear or worry .. just calmly increase distance from the scary thing .. there's plenty of time, and pup needs to know that you can deal with all those things. Turn and go is a really useful skill for you to learn. When I get a new pup, I really like to take pup to my vet for a well puppy consult visit .. and I will usually take pup in my arms into the waiting room (when it's not busy) to make the appointment and start meeting the staff. Not only is this a nice introduction for the pup, but for the staff, it can be a major stress reliever, especially if they've been having a bad day.
  16. The 2 remaining ones are getting so big now, and fledging well. One was just busy exercising the wings -- huge .. the ledge is looking smaller, but the wings looked as though they could almost recover from a topple .. still a bit nerve-wracking though.
  17. Good thinking, @sandgrubber . I've known some lovely Welsh Springers .. clever dogs, great tracking dogs, and the ones I know are beautiful house pets. Coat seems to need general maintenance, but I would think tends not to stick into carpet etc like the stiffer shorter hairs of some other breeds. Edited to add …. and @The Spotted Devil can give great information about working line ESS.
  18. Hopefully you did get your puppy to a vet just to be sure. And hopefully the pup is feeling better now.
  19. No experience with IBD, but depending where you are in Tas, there are a few vets in the South who might be able to help .. they are not "specialists" as such, but have a particular interest and see a lot of patients with If it were my dog, I would certainly either be seeing a second opinion or a referral to a specialist to get some more targeted help.
  20. That was a worry … when I checked in half an hour ago or so, there were no chicks to be seen .. …. but looked again just now .. and phew .. all three are there .. and the camera has been switched to the other end of their space. All 3 are looking quite active.
  21. Pretty sure it was the little one that climbed over into the front space earlier on and was doing the wing flapping .. the big one had been there but went back into the back. Now there's no one in the back space. They're getting to adventurous.
  22. In the time it took me to find that and resize it, the big one has moved into the space nearer the camera for some serious grooming
  23. See this is fascinating .. Hadn't even bothered to think about that. We tend to assume things across species .. well, I do. Thank you. The biggest youngster was exploring this afternoon out of sight in the space towards that camera. I was glad to see all three back in the space and getting together just now. (Wonder what I should have been doing }
  24. They're getting so big now. One of them looks as though it's a male .. almost as big as Mum now. Lots of wing tips developing and other feathers coming. Mum's just been in to give them some lunch.
