some fly by pics, Echo has been digging holes so we bought him a shell for a designated dig zone, the spare shell was turned into a little pool for him. It may end up being another dig zone depending.

Echo had his first day of puppy school today, he acted exactly the way I predicted - minimal attention, wanting to play with puppies but hide when puppies pay attention to him, hide under the chairs and benches and all out trying to go everywhere. So it went pretty well, he got to play with puppies at the end when there were less around and everyone was leaving, surprisingly he was rough with some but then when he met a little 9 week puppy he completely stopped and was very gentle with it. He was a bit too boisterous on some so will be working on that.

I found something Echo goes nuts for when training - the tuna we feed out cats, we give the cats canned human grade tuna as its cheaper and does not contain the crap pet food does, Echo absolutely loves it! Also my OH found that Echo has MUCH MUCH worse farts than him, the worst part is they are silent and in his words smells like he let out a dead rotting cow

ravenau - lovely pictures of Astrid, she is growing nicely and looks so happy. I am glad you had a good time on the beach with her. thanks for the tips however Echo is too young for a slip collar or choke chain, I also want to keep it as positive as possible. I also have issues with people patting without asking, alot of people around here dont even know what Echo is because they have never seen a Dobermann with a tail lol. Poor astrid teething I find carrots help lol! clastic- amazing photos, I just love your pups colours - so gorgeous. I hope your OH is fine now! betsy - wow sounds like the party didnt go as planned, but at least it turned out ok for you. KTB - you seem to get around on this forum lol, I do not even come across half of these threads you find. little hoover is a trouble maker, stealing elbies head rest! lol. Wizzle - what a precious, echo would not even have a bar of standing in the sun on a hot day! Echo's nice and happy and his loose leash walking has improved since, I am not sure how but I guess I showed a bit more seriousness in the walk and I did not speak when he pulled on the leash and treated him on the ground instead of my hand so he had to stop to eat the treat. It has really helped and so far in two days I have been able to walk him and and down the street with little to no pulling, he has also begun to follow where i go exactly and stop when i stop on a loose lead. I was able to work on his attention to me when people where around yesterday as the neighbours in my estate were skateboarding down the hill (the father and the child lol) and were also walking their tiny chihuahua which was choking itself pulling to get to Echo. Echo stayed calm and would follow me the second I began to walk the other way and said "lets go", he did so well ^_^ Oh and Echos bling came in the mail! he is now registered with the council woo!! here is some nice piccies of echo. This is echo waiting to be given a release command after being told to sit, he is doing very well on this now. his favourite breakfast is whole pilchards, he will eat the fish before anything else in the dish if I give him other things. koda sniffing about Echos crate for food, because Echo had a bone and Koda wanted it.

Toolz he is gorgeous!! congratulations!

KTB: glad I am not the only one, guess I am letting the long hours of work push my patience, will try to be more patient with him, typical I had to get the most stubborn and dominant breed lol. This is going to be hard! Wizzle: I guess Echo is no exception lol! Minxy: thanks I think you are right and yes I had TONNES of food, but he loses interest in food and has a higher interest in surroundings when we go out his head never comes up from the ground.
-
thanks wuffles, he is still very young but the more i read the more it sounds the only way to control a dobermann on walks is to use a prong collar.. I was hoping to train him to never pull. At the moment it seems impossible. Oh well.. keeping at it.

bit of frustration today, Echo just doesn't get leash walking, I spent over an hour then stopping and doing exactly as kikopups videos but he doesn't get it, he is back to pulling ahead the second we go.. There was no way I would have gotten home at the rate we were going.. and he doesn't want to go in one direction, he wants to go ALL directions so its impossible to just change direction because he will instantly pull in that direction too.. I am at a loss If i make like a tree, he just runs around pulling, and even when he finally stops, I take one step and that's it. does anyone have any tips.. This dog just wont get it.. He walks fine in the yard..

HAHHA omg KTB that is hilarious, elbie looks hilarious !

KTB- I am glad the ceremony went well, it is a very emotional time but at the same time very special. It sounded like an amazing send off. Minxy/SammieS - I would love to have a walk with you both one day, I do remember the dog park in annerley being very busy too. I dont think I could risk taking Echo to a dog park, I do not want to sound snotty but I would prefer he does not get into the habit of playing with random dogs, I worry about him going nuts everytime we pass a dog. I am however more than happy to walk with other dogs! Echo isnt quite leash trained yet, I had stopped walking him as he was regressing so I decided to go back to square one with 0 distractions. He is now 12 weeks and has been showing signs of fear so I will see how his confidence goes for the next few weeks I am sure my OH wouldn't mind dropping me off at Annerley for a walk one day! btw gorgeous photos of Atsi! I just love frenchies ears! Max- thanks I am glad you think so :D Some days I feel like we are failing, but he does small things which remind me that he is doing just fine for his age :D I wish you luck on your akita! when will your akita be arriving? How exciting!! Wizzle- welcome but at the electrical cord damage! I would Die if Echo did that! Good thing it wasn't plugged in!! Genevieve has a very expressionable face lilli-star- wow they grow up so fast, its both a good and bad thing lol, good that they mature, but bad because you miss the cute puppy stage (but not the horrible teething stage LOL) I dont know if Echo's diet needs changing at adult stage.. he is on a barf diet so I guess the only change would be to up his meat intake from 40% meat 60% bone to 50% meat 50% bone.. not too sure, I might need to consult to my breeder. Echo had a big day of play today, I gave him a good 2 hrs play this morning, then me and OH gave him 1 and a half hrs this arvo with attention in between! we also train him while playing, so we have a good game of tug, then will ask a behaviour or wait for him to offer one before playing again, lately I have been working on extending his "sit" (he know knows the command WOO!) with distractions, "leave it" "drop it" "lets play" and his release command "free" for his sits, so far he is doing great, I also began to lure the down behaviour today and rewarded heavily for successful downs, I only did this 3 times before going back to a game of tug to reduce boredom and keep attention. We have also tried to teach fetch, but Echo seems to forget the toy and runs back to us lol. I am now able to shake his toys around and he will hold the sit and wait for me to say "free, lets play!" before going for it, I also had success in "leave it" with a gardening glove he wasn't allowed to have (he really wanted it) but he did not touch it when I said leave it, I even tested this by moving it a bit to increase temptation and he sat down and didn't touch it He has a lot more attention now that I have made training a part of in between play, he also loves to play chasey, first he chases me, then I chase him. He especially loves to play chasey after I let him win tug, so I chase after him for the toy, if I stop he will always run back to me and I trade him some mince for the toy with a "drop" command to seal the deal, never failed! some pics of today! side shot of his body, I think he is looking pretty good I think!

Woooooow amazing! wish I had that size run! I wish I had that size yard lol!

that is an amazing photo, I am sure he would love it!

Oh wow really? where are you? I am in darra thanks wuffles! he is definitely quite the character! we took echo to the corinda pet cafe today to socialise him this morning, there weren't many dogs when we got there (I only wanted him to observe other dogs not play so this was the best place we could think of which would be best for this) but enough people to give him some socialisation and also a very well built fireman taking donations for the flood! He was offering dog washes for free and Echo didn't mind one bit when he bent down and gave him some affection, although he wasn't too keen on taking the liver treats from him lol. He handled the amount of ppl great and did not jump up for attention and kept walking with us, the only time he became a little scared was when a mean old black bin bag came flying around near us, but I came to the rescue and stomped on it and then he checked it out and was perfectly fine :D We ended up declining a free dog wash as I wanted to make sure it was a positive experience for him so I donated some money and we went on our way . I would say the whole experience was pretty positive, he met a giant fire man in bright colours, a man who ran past us pretty close, a group of teenagers, children on skateboards, some random adults and got to see some poodles passing by and some noisy cars/trucks and different smells. We only stayed for about 20 mins but I felt that was more than enough for him at that stage and it was getting quite warm.

Betsy- haha yeah i realised some puppies were much older here now good to hear your mum is keen on another bc I am curious, what would require more exercise - a border collie or a dobermann? I have heard dobermanns just never stop! and I am seeing this with Echo Wuffles- yep have been doing that constantly I am being as patient as possible lol, he is very slow at learning at the moment. OMG your girl is gorgeous in those pics, she is very unique ravenau-thanks! I think you are right boys are slower, your girl sounds so intelligent compared to mine lol! KTB- cuute, that crate is so huge but it looks perfect for sharing ! kuma- wishing you luck on stopping your puppies lunging, that would scare a few ppl! maybe he is having a relapse? We are lucky in a way, we live close to the archerfield airport (two suburbs away) so we always have planes flying pretty low near us and during the floods we had helicopters flying overhead every 5 mins, some even landing a few hundred meters away and flying very low past us during take off so Echo has gotten used to them pretty quickly and no longer reacts to the loud noises. Echo is teething now, he turned 12 weeks Thursday and his ears are now beginning to do crazy things, mostly they go flying nun style and lay flipped backwards so I have to keep plopping them forwards, may need to tape them down. Koda has decided Echo needs to be put in place and has been approaching echo and giving him a swat or two, I have told him off for doing so but thankfully he isn't using claws. I gave echo a carrot today to chew, he loves carrots and really enjoys chewing on them so it should help his teething.

Betsy- thank you! glad your play date ended well! I am sure you had a good sleep that night Niques- lol, at least James is now home and happy maybe a bath is in order to get rid of the smell? I dont mind dog smell, but you can definitely tell when its not your dogs smell. Wuffles- good to hear :D Shame your not in bris I would have loved to have introduced Echo to your pair. Clastic- OMG your house is amazing, the kitchen is a dream! I am jealous! KTB- thank you! I can assure you no negative experiences came from reading this thread :D I always loved logging on each day to reach the adventures of puppies here Max- your boy is looking lovely, I would probably avoid that dreaded puddle though black water does not sound good Kuma- thanks, he is quite the character Kuma has trained you well, he has his own personal slaves to carry him to bed lol! Mixy- gorgeous photos! so fluffy and cute Boy was it warm midday yesterday, Echo had to come inside to cool down, but before that I gave him his meat Popsicle! I put one of his bones in a tub of water and froze it, he loves it. He also really enjoys just sucking and eating ice cubes so I brought him inside and gave him an ice cube to enjoy too. Then that weird storm came in and knocked a tree over in our neighbours front yard O_O so me and my OH helped cut it up and remove it off the road. Echo's training is slow, he is now finally getting "sit" but he is always looking down so he never responds unless he sees the hand signal, will need to work on focus/attention. I guess it would be hard for a puppy to constantly look up at us though. I am assuming he is just a slow learner, oh well patience patience

I fail to see your point? are you saying that I disemboweled that toy? you must be clearly out of your mind.. I dont know.. It looks dangerous. waakdkflskdghfgfghjfgfgh! did you just say it was booby trapped?!

I like it very nice and simple hint: anyone having problems customising wordpress should REALLY check out a program called Artisteer - It is amazing and saves alot of time I was tired of coding every single one of my pages as I used to make my pages with html, css and javascript. I wanted something easier so I opted for a blog website and then was told to use Artisteer as it was great for simplistic web making It is very easy!

Hi all I hope I am allowed to join in I have been reading this thread every time a new post is made and love seeing all the pics - I would love to join in and share pics of my boy Lilli: it looks perfect! We are planning on doing something similar for echo as there is not much shelter outside, for now he has a shelter modified from the cat run which provides nice shelter on the sunny days. Ravenau: Does she sniff around at all? I noticed that when Echo needs to go he sniffs the ground alot more and he begins to have a funny walk, like a waddle - the second he goes quiet and does any of these I take him out, even if he doesn't need to go, just to be sure. He is also usually pretty vocal Echo is 11 weeks and 5 days now. Here is some pics of him he is only allowed out of his pen in the house with a leash for now or if an area is blocked off as we have cats and we are trying to prevent any chasing behaviour. The cats are getting used to him, one of them will now let Echo approach him and will sniff noses but any more and he will hiss and swat.

Echo met his first not doberman dog yesterday, Charlie the 12 mth cocker spaniel. At first Echo had no idea what Charlie was and was avoiding him, but after a greeting they began to have a good game of chasey and wrestle. here is some pics earlier in the day and a video of yesterday of echo playing tug and the play date http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txHnBSsG1ts

I havent been really reinforcing the give command, When he loses grip I wait until he sits before start the game again and then we start tugging again. I will have to start teaching him give. He is quite soft mouthed so its not hard to take from him or give him things. - this said his grip is amazing when playing tug!
-
I let Echo win some and I win some to try and keep it even. Hopefully this is ok, I would hate to play a game I always lost too..

I am feeding my dobermann puppy chicken frames and necks for breakfast, more the frames though, I supervise him but so far he seems to really enjoy them and not a morsel is left when he is done with the frames. I break the frame in half so its easier for him. This said he has been raised on a raw diet so he has been accustomed to eating carefully, he doesn't scoff his food and chews (this might also be because he isnt much of a glutton either lol).

Am a bit excited this morning, I was charging the clicker with Echo this morning and rewarding with mince and I began to click when his nose touched the clicker and something went off in his head and he started to tap the clicker with his nose from then on! Was very happy. I stopped after the fourth click so he didn't lose interest. Doesn't sound like a very good trick, but to me its huge because he registered that tapping the clicker with his nose means reward!

thanks luvdogs, I have kikopup on watch already (have since her first videos of when splash was only 10 weeks old lol) Ososwift, I believe you are right, I have been waiting for a pup for a long time so I have had alot of time to watch and read on training, along with buying many clicker training books, so I guess I was feeling a bit too confident, its clear Echo isnt quite ready and I have takena step back and I am just trying to make things fun for now for both of us. Pax- hopefully it shows soon because at the moment my cat is more willing to eat than him lol
