Cavaliers - 7 babies 3 tri girls, 3 Blenheim boys, 1 tri boy. 21/02/2019
-
Sorry for the delayed reply. 7 pups born on 3rd Sept, 3 girls 4 boys.Daytime whelping so i was very pleased. 1 black and tan girl died shortly after birth due to fluid on the lungs, stuck behind the biggest pup in the litter. Remaining 6 have all grown up and gone to their new homes. 1 x ruby female gone to Melb 1 x black and tan female to ACT 1 x black and tan boy to Warracknabeal 1 x black and tan boy with white markings to Melb 1 x ruby boy with white markings to Melb 1 x black and tan boy is here locally co-owned with Kate Fitzpatrick who will show him and keep him entire. He does have a little umbilical hernia from Poppy doing a number on the cord at birth (had to be that pup not any of the pet homes ones), nothing major which we are going to get fixed and he is all health cleared and all the pups now 10 weeks are fully toliet trained and loving their new homes. So if you see Cavalblaze Daredevil entered on the show schedules that's my little boy.

OMG, had Poppy to the vets today. She is a maiden girl only 17 months old. Vet saids 6 heads for sure, think there is more up high we better book her in for a xray in 2 weeks. Poor girl is 10 kilos already, plods along with the pregnancy waddle. Needless to say i am looking for backup whelping hands. Thinking this litter could be fairly full on.

Yeah i have had such a dramatic time with dogs, on the cards to trhow into the towel. Yes hernias can be inherdidted, exspecially if they pop up on more than one pup in a litter. This litter both females had them. Although it's not written proof, many vets have different therories on if it is or isn't but basically a weakening of the muscle tissue. And it things couldn't get any worst, 1 pups i sold ran into a bush and is now blind in one eye. Heart murmur pup had a allergic reaction to worming meds and with a faulty heart he just couldn't cope and was PTS. But Poppy is ploding along well, she is from different lines and no issues to date. Stud dog i've also heard good feedback from. Her sister whelped 7 pups recently. She is due early Sept, definately is in pup so crossing all the fingers and toes.

Turns out Casey litter was a disaster. At 5 weeks old 3 of the pups had developed inguinal hernias, 1 had a heart issue. Heart issue may fix itself with age but needless to say he was given away for just for the cost of his vet work as can't sell puppy that may only live 12 months. Inguinal hernias were repaired and all sold off as pets. God this annoys me, i had all dogs heart and eye certified, DNA tested and still something that can't be tested for pops up. I can't pin point who is at fault, is it my bitch who's previous litter was perfect or is it the stud dog we hired. Stud dog owner swears he never thrown any issues before, he carries heart certification too. All i can do is get her retested next year, if clear mate her with a different stud and see what happens. She is from Supreme grand champion bloodlines so one would hope these nasty things are not in her linage. Moving on, Poppy my black and tan maiden girl was mated a few weeks ago to much nicer linage, owned by a Cavalier judge and her stud boy i have seen offspring from so and i am praying all goes well for her litter or i'll be pulling my hair out. So looking forward to black and tan babies with a possible ruby.

Yes was hoping for tri's. Mum's a tri and the stud we used although blenheim came from tri parents. Genetically according to the colour charts we should of got both. So it seems it was just not meant to be, always next year and i'll source the service of a quality tri stud which are in short supply. As for puppies, 3 have homes. 1 boy i still haven;t even considered taking applications for till such time as he is up and walking around. He might be a show potential, got good head and nice markings. One girl going up to ACT for a puppy swap, the other is local pet home and the other boy is going to a pet home in Port Fairy.

After about 2 hours sleep for the entire night i have 4 live puppies, 2 girls and 2 boys. All Blenheims. Unfortunately 5th pup who was a little boy who had respiratory issues at birth that i just couldn't get going, he just didn't feed very well and Casey rejected him while i had a 2 hour nap. Did everything i could but he passed away.

5 babies confirmed. Now sit and wait for the big "d" day. Goes to show ultrasounds are not accurate way of showing numbers.

Getting a tad nervous and a little excited, puppies are due 16 days. She is getting round, xray booked for next week to detirmind numbers since the ultrasound was rather inclusive. I had to cut off her beautiful feathering which was 30cm long on the hind legs, need to be done can't have pups getting caught up in that and she is alot happier for it. Less grooming for me too as it tends to knot up easy. All in all i hope for a successful problem free litter. I'l be less stressed once they have arrived and all settled.

Jerojath they must be the couple i see walking their dog along the road here. Looking around 5th May for them to be born if successful. I will ultrasound at 30 days to assure we have some on board. Had a bitch a few years ago that put on one hell of a phantom pregnancy. She went through the getting fat, lactating and first stage of labour and we took her to the vets as no pups had came and she was empty. Got her desex in the end as she did it twice, second time we were more wiser. Casey should be ok though, this would be her second litter, no issues last time with her former owner.

Arh finally found the thread, been like years since i've been on here. Might have something to do with having kids and putting to dog breeding on the back burn. With the youngest now 19 months so i'm starting to get into some of my interest. Well i do have some good news. Casey my tri coloured cavalier is currently at stud and report is she is being a huge flirt and had 2 successful matings and trying for another tonight. So possible litter early May of parti colours. Yay for me!

Yay, he has a name. Hello Everyone. I haven't vanished from the universe. Got nothing exciting to share except that i am preggers and the little creature inside is causing me alot of drama so i am turning into a fat blob at home. Lele is desex we are hoping for another whole coloured puppy sometime in the near future. Hope all is well. Mick have to drop in and check out the croc when he/she arrives. Kids love coming to your store for a look.

Good morning, Thankyou for the Birthday wishes. We are alive and well here, only extra additions are alot chicks and a few ducklings soon to hatch. To come is a rabbit. lol.. Cage is all set up just a matter of finding a suitable candidate for a 5yr old to handle. Puppies have all settled well into their new homes. Getting regular updates from 5 buyers, the 6th hasn't made any contact. Lele is adjusting to being a solo dog. We decided to wait now to find another cavalier puppy. Might be a long wait but eventually we will get a whole coloured one.

Hey Mick, I found what i was looking for today at the petshop (Power Lead with the ceramic light fitting). Just a suggestion maybe get a few into your shop as they were well priced at $25.99 Reptapets Australia called a 'Repta lead edison fitting'. They can take up to 250 watts, have the nice on/off switch on the lead and it's all pre wired ready to use. Ideal for reptiles and chook brooders. www.reptapets.com.au
