Great to hear Ptolomy And gorgeous Boy and mum of course. My old Yellow girl is 29, 30 this year...........

I will check their FB to see the response to the PP question as I am very reluctant to support something that supports such a place. I feed it, sell it and use it in my kennels. I have had no issues with it and have many people that are happy with it and so far dogs in the kennels do well on it. Having said that I do not expect everyone to agree, I do not expect all dogs to do well on it as many don't so well on other brands of foods either. The reponse to such critisisms is important.

Our working kelpie bitch had a litter after 2 weeks she was over them and had to be held down periodically and be made to feed them. We had the puppies all out running around at 6 weeks and noticed her and two pups were missing. She had taken two on a walk to the creek in front of the house (dry at that stage but lots of bush) whipped through the trees and bolted home. We thought it was accidental until we observed her do it again and she was intentionally trying to lose them. Maybe she just doesn't do motherhood that well? Many a tail has been told of bitches whelping a litter next to the yards then retiring to working in the yards only to pop back in quiet moments and feed them. I think working bitches can feel the strain a bit because they love what they are going and hate to be missing out

Yep shown in statebred often

Haven't had there tea yet and unless I pop back to the kennels for some more dry food they will have fresh air!! Oh and the too tails I forgot to give them for breakfast!! So far they have had grasshoppers, sheep poop and alpaca food :)

I do wonder how many other dogs may have been injured due to their practice, a dog would be very lucky not to break it's neck if it left off the table while tethered like that and no-one close enough to catch it........................ Buddy I still think of you and your mum and canine buddies every day. RIP sweet man.

Feeding After Splenic Torsion And Removal
OSoSwift replied to Kavik's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I understand fully how you feel. You end up feeling like every meal is a potential disater and you watch them like a hawk and worry about them after every meal. That is a big part of why I would never have another Dobe. 3 times was the end of me and my shattered nerves. I would have a chat to your vet and see if there is another food you can try or maybe if there is something he can suggest. -
Dog Bitten While In Boarding Kennel
OSoSwift replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in General Dog Discussion
Totally. Absolute garbage on the part of the owner. He/she should be moving heaven and earth to find out what happened. Someone is not coming forward. I hope your friends take this further. Five days without treatment. Was the dog even fed???? No mention of trying to find out what happened at all. I am not sure what his owners are going to do - we bred the dog, I wouldn't be letting it rest at that and I certainly will be doing the opposite of recommending anyone to this kennel. At least 5 days without treatment - if I did this as a breeder I would be charged with cruelty - the same with them as owners - I can't believe that someone doesn't know what happened. Their vet is a very well known influential vet and they are disgusted as well. And the dog weighed 7 kilo's less when he came out of the kennel than when he went in. The vet wasn't impressed with that either - thats a big weight loss over a week. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. 7 kilos in a week and they didn't notice a bite mark. No one has looked at/feed glanced at this dog its entire stay. I'd be going to the RSPCA 7kgs weight loss and they didn't think to call the owners?? not to mention the bite marks - appaling!!! If the dog was fretting that badly the wonser should have been called and informed and then had a discussion regarding the best was to go about managing it ie different foods, hand feeding, puppy milk even. We are the first contact when they are out of the country and the kennel said that he happily ate all the food he was given. Obviously it wasn't enough for a dog his size and or it was poor quality. Yes I agree, if he happily ate all he was given then unless it was half sawdust he shouldn't ahve lost weight. Do the owners know what type of food they feed? -
I think that if there became enough numbers then there should be a neuter BOB etc, I wouldn't expect them to go up against the entires. At this point there are not enough numbers, but with time there will be :)

When I worked at the vet any dog suspected of having parvo was carried in where possible, alternatively they were taken in via the back door or if necessary via the front door with everyone removed and not allowed back until appropriately cleaned. Obviously the last option was the one only used when absolutely necessary

I will try and find them on Caths Facebook page :)

Feeding After Splenic Torsion And Removal
OSoSwift replied to Kavik's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a bitch with GDv & GD surgery 3 times. She was fed chicken and white rice in slight increasin portions until areound 2 weeks after her surgery - I think it was a while ago. Then slowly back onto her normal diet. I was told never to feed her more than 3 cups per meal, I fed her around 2 and a half and slightly soaked the food to stop her gulping it quite so much. All dogs were fed twice daily before and after surgery. She was on science diet energy or wsomething like that but after her last surgery ended upw ith some digestion issues and the only food she could eat was Eukanuba fish and potato. I would trya dn eventually get him onto a more concentrated food so he needs to eat less eventually. -

Same here. I just can't trust that anyone but me or my Mum will look after them the way I expect. Last time a fmaily member looked after my dog it resulted in $2500 worth of TPLO surgery! These stories are horrific to say the least......................... -
Hopefully they will teach Willow to enjoy swimming I have seen photos of Willow swimming in alkes and streams:) Lewis loves to swim after his cuz ball :)

Dog Bitten While In Boarding Kennel
OSoSwift replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in General Dog Discussion
I just had a fight here between two dogs from the same family, broke it up quickly, small scrape small amount of blood not through the first layer of skin. Immediately called them to notify and tell them what I was going to do ie seperate them until they go home tomorrow and tell them I was happy to take her to the vet if they wished me to but described the small wound and said I relly didn't think it warrented an after hours Sunday arvo visit. Why would they not call, to me it is just what you do. Have they been called and asked about it as yet? I am interested to hear the reply!! -

OSoSwift replied to Bisart Dobes's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not all kennels are like that!! I find it hard to believe that he could have got those types of injuries unless he was running with another dog. I have had dogs scrape noses etc lunging at weldmesh/fences but never puncture wounds. I could understand if it was maybe in his nose area as it could be bitten through the fence, but hmmmmmmmm. Honeslty I ahve people trying to make me run unknown dogs together because Fluffy likes to play with other dogs. My policy is no it doesn't happen. I have entire males and often a bitch in season - no way would I run entire dogs together, recipe for disaster! Just yesterday I was hammered because a person wanted their active dog - large breed - who was coming in just for the day, to run with other dogs as she is very active and we want her to have fun too. I stated no and why we don't do it. Seems you can't please many - not even everyone!! Oh and I don't charge more! Every dog has a right to safety and returning home in good health and happy -
I have used Flexi's with my Dobes. They were used to give them some freedom to toilet etc when I didn't want them off lead. If I had to hold them close the short bit had a loop like a lead so it was locked and I held the short bit. They were not used for general walking but were fantastic for travelling when dogs needed toileting and a leg stretch. I hav never had an issue using them. Someone I know had a smaller dog on one, it got a fright, whipped around her legs then bolted. Yep very deep nasty burns to her legs.

Yep and coming from the horse world initially I was a little suprised at the complete resistance to the mention of showing desexed dogs. I just don't see the issue. Many dogs that are shown are never bred from.

Do Vets Jack The Price Up For Insurance Claims?
OSoSwift replied to Ellis's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mine doesn't, however I know when it comes to shall we wait and monitor or shall we , say X-ray, then I say nope X-ray they are insured. Their prices are their prices. I do know if you tell them that you have a maximum price or are not insured etc they will try and still treat the animal as best they can but don't do any extras to try and keep to your budget. They don't want people saying no it cost too much and then euthing, they want to fix them and send them home. -
It could be that there are no suitable females to breed with - my 5yo male Kelpie has not sired a litter and probably won't as there is nothing to breed him too in WA (except maybe my young girl when older but at this stage probably not). However I know a multi-BIS winning Supreme Champion bitch who has never had a litter. She probably was fertile but hasn't been bred on vet advice following an illness when younger. Because she "can't" be bred does that mean she should not be allowed to show? Her litter sister has produced some very good dogs. At the end of the day I don't care about the points for neuters. I would be happy to have a neuter sweepstake instead if the points weren't on offer. But neuter sweepstakes weren't offered! It isn't worth keeping many breeds in full show coat for just a couple of shows a year. Nope I think they should be allowed to show, just saying that there would be dogs and bitches out there that are entire but have not or cannot have a litter or sire a litter. My dogs have never had a litter but I have every right to show them, they are both entire.
