  1. SO very sorry to hear everything you are going through and I hope they do pay out very soon as it is one less thing for you to then worry about.
  2. A hip replacement is a prosthesis or artificial joint. I can't believe you are not covered though. Is this the same for all insurance companies? Most of the insurance companies are underwritten'd by Hollanrd... they may vary slightly but we chose pet plan because it was a different under-writer, I don't if they would cover TPLO either (I haven't looked) but when RSPCA insurance decided not to pay for a simple hot spot because it was caused by flea control prevention (my dog had a reaction to frontline and ended up with a hotspot) we changed insurance companies. So far petplan have been good for us, haven't had to claim for a while but have claimed over $8000 for two claims, we got all of it back except the excess of $100 in both cases. My dogs TTO surgery was completely covered, no questions asked through Petplan.
  3. Sounds kinda like an extinction burst to me. What worked last time I will try harder and faster until, bugger I give up hmmmmmmmmmmm You are going great :)
  4. I am a people name kind of person when it comes to pets :) We have had Arizon, Zeus and Mason. Natasha - whom I didn't name, and Angel - who was a brilliant dog. Her rego'd name was D Heaven Sent. I wanted to call her after an angel and cracked it after I discovered all Angels were men and decided they were bloody sexist. We now have Rommi and Lewis ( I often call my young son Lewis) and Goose. The cats have been Arnie, Dennis, Chevy and Boris. Currently we have Boo, Harrison Barney (Harry), and Merlin and Arthur - whom I didn't name but like the names all the same :) The sheep are Sambuca - Sam ( and I don't drink) and Baart Anthony Morris John ( Collective from the kids and friends ). Alpaca's are Anzac - Zac and Matilda. I would never have a Molly or Bella. I don't like coomon names for dogs or kids and remember getting rather annoyed when after naming our son that 5 children of the same name appeared in our local paper withing 6 months of him being born. Seems it is actually rather popular. The other I have only heard once. There is a young Irish terrier that comes into the kennels called Kevin and it suits him :)
  5. Sounds very promising. She has tried and not succeeded, next time my guess is she may try as hard, if that doesn't succeed then the efforts wil reduce. She she will still chew and shred stuff provided by you but her having a "I want to get out now" tantrum won't work so the efforts will reduce. It has worked before so it goes without saying she will try and get out and she will try hard but every time she can't, she will reduce her efforts. Well done you and Roo :)
  6. They are welcome to fly it over my place, they won't get it back in one piece, but hey :)
  7. I bought a very expensive one many moons ago that I used when travelling to toilet the Dobes. They were very well trained didn't bolt or pull and I used them very successfully. I used it a few time when I first took Rommi to the beach as a young pu, with no-one else around and to make sure she couldn't get away from me. HAven't used it since then though. USed wisely they are very handy, used unwisely - well yeh we know. Same as idiots with anything really.
  8. We have a hunting camera that starts taing photos when it detects movement. My farming practices are pretty bloody good actually. So if I check my cows three time a day, but happen to have a cow begin to calve and have difficulties inbetween, this drone can detect it and report me to the authroities. I gotta eat and sleep sometime don't I???? I have had one moron fly too low over my cattle paddock and very nearly put my cows through the fence onto a main road. I got his number, found out who it was and phoned him and gave him a bloody serve, nosy bastard. the neighbour has his own airstrip, turns right over my house to land, pisses me right off. He gets called and told I will shoot him down if he does it again. If I can see him in the cockpit, he can see me! He now turns from the otehr side. A friend lost her horse to a broken neck after Horizon power spooked the horses while checking power lines with their jet helicopter noisy whatever thing it was. Bloody thing would cop a bullet from a 243 if it flies over here.
  9. Im sorry its a business so its okay - bullshit it is my private residence! Comes over my place it will be shot down.
  10. I have a customer who won't feed anything with beef because the dog will start killing cows that's tragic but hilarious. You should say that it won't make them want to eat more of them but it may make them start sounding like them. Moooooo  i tried to explain that they dont know that the things walking around taste like the stuff from the shop. but nope, i have no idea... I have had people look shocked when I tell them mine get roo and rabbit - but they will start hunting by themselves......I usually say nope, they like the meat but don't know whats under the wrapping! I know of a person who had a GSD bitch speyed once as she got mated by a crossbreed who jumped the fence as she would never breed pure again. I said okay if you have a baby to a black person and you are white then the baby will have dark skin yes? Yes they agreed. If you then have a baby with a white person you will have a white baby yes as the father is white, not your previous partner?? Yes they agreed. Same with your dogs, the sperm do not survive longer than a few days, certainly not from one season or mating to the next. Nope wouldn't believe me...................
  11. I know of a breeder and judge who put up a bitch of a fellow breeder in his breed. Normally he didn't like there type much, but he said on the day the bitch was the best one there and worked her socks off, so she went BOB. Most judges are ethical yes they are more likely to pick the type they like because as far as they are concerned that is the correct interpretation of the breed standard. Doesn't mean they were paid off or put their friend up
  12. I agree, try looking at the sphynx cat one :)
  13. I once had general public telling her kids "Oh yes those are Whippets, those are the dogs that you can feed as much as you want and they never get fat!" I explained that wasn't the case and Rommi in particular was a pig and I often adjusted her food as she would eat way too much if you gave it, she'd eat it. As they walked away person goes to her kids, no that's rubbish they never get fat. What would I know then hey ???? :)
  14.   yep clear not to much of an issue. Coloured definately get it checked :)
  15. Same for me going from Dobes and a Stafford to the Whippets
  16. Hmmm I wonder if this could be used in cats???? Many seem to be made for dogs and I am needing one for cats. MIght give it a go :)
  17. What a fantastic update, great to hear :) Roo Is getting there. Just remember she has been like this for quite some time it is going to take some time to work through the hiccups.
  18. My dogs are well socialised. They can go through a large crowd of people and not care, they enjoy being patted and talked to by said people - one more than the otehr. They can work and be around a large group or dogs of varying breeds and sizes and not care. They go out and about in the big wide world and are confident and happy. That is what I call socilaised. I do not want my dogs to attribute a really high reward value to random dogs, one becasue I want them to see me as the prime focus, but also because not all random dogs like having a dog hurtle up to them regardless of how friendly it is. I do not see the value in having my dogs play with any and every dog out and about. I have no idea if theya re carrying an infectious disease, full of fleas or might take offence to my dog and then I have an injured dog. Whippets are not hard to damage. I teach my dogs neutralisation as I do not see anything beneficial arrising from the average persons idea of socialisation. My understanding is dogs are friendly to those inside their pack however big or small but it is not normal for them to be friendly to dogs from a different pack.
  19. Yep I am over it and now they get a mouthful. My dogs are on lead and under control, if yours are not they will see the end of my boot and you will cop it. We have that many issues in our small town with roaming dogs and attacks that I defend first ask questions later!
  20. Wow sounds like many stories we are starting to hear!! I would agree, I would never recommend a 12month implant for a stud/show dog. Not good news on the concerns that his medical condition may return. I didn't get Lewis's testosterone levels checked so not idea what he was at that stage but he suddenly regained his testicle size etc in a matter of weeks, so hopefully Chases does come back to normal soon. Are you planning on collecting him then desexing?? Due to his medical condition? Thank you for the update, I think we have more case studies in this thread than I managed to find after googling for hours and hours. Hopefully we can help other people if they are faced with wanting or needing to use this implant.
  21. What a bunch of dim whitted idiots! Not every dog is suitable to be rehomed and many dog adn people aggressive dogs cannot be rehabilitated or only with a certain handful of people. I think that temperment testing dogs before they leave the pound is s smart move. Yes they are in a stressful situation but if a dog tries to bite, lunge, munch on the temp tester over it's food bowl, then nope I don't think it should be released. I have had a few different breeds of dogs over the years including guarding breeds and all have happily given up food bones or stolen yummies if requred with no more than a please can I have that back. PR sound like a bunch of ill informed emotive fools.
  22. Simply grand you are an absolute gem :) Jelly I am suprised you have the energy to think of anything other than work, too and survival!!
  23. I have that book, but it isn't where it normally should be, will look and see what it comes up with
