  1. Interesting, I mainly wanted to do it for freedom of motion to help loosen up ligaments etc that get stiff and tight when legs are not being walked on properly. Please excuse any typo's got a Sphynx helping by sleeping on my other arm!!!!
  2. I am hoping my vet will do tubal ligations/vasectomies......I am not overly optimistic but I hope!!!
  3. I am not sure about the showing, are his testicles reasonably normally sized?? Some say you shouldn't, others have no issue with it so I guess the choice is yours. As far as I am aware the can be shown and it is not banned under any ANKC rules thus far. Fingers and paws crossed he gets some testosterone back soon!! Rommi has come into season so we will be mating her soon. Fingers crossed he has more swimmers than he had when we did a semen test!!
  4. We don't have a physio or anything so I was told that for two weeks she had to be crated and only out to toilet three times a day, then she could have very short walks when toileting, then she was allowed free but only in the dog run - 2 metres wide and 4.5 metres long(including the house bit)and on lead for toilets, then allowed in the small yard - 17 metres X 10 metres. It was 10 weeks and a check up before she was given the all clear to run free without other dogs, and around 3 weeks after that running with other dogs but with supervision etc. The links Ness has given you are great, she also gave them to me and they were very helpful. If I had of had access to a pool I would have taken her swimming, but it was too cold in the ocean and she cramps in cold water. I think swimming is one of the best rehab exercises you can do for pretty much any ortho or cruciate surgery. Having said that she has come out quite well, it has taken her time to build her muscle up and it isn't exactly the same but that close you would be hard picked to find the difference.
  5. If you are not happy go to your own vet. They do not sound particularly understanding. My girl didn't need an e-collar as it was far too sore. The very did say at the first sign of her even thinking abuot licking it to put and e-collar on as her skin is so thin, but it wasn't necessary. Fingers crossed he feels better very soon. Rommi had quite a bit of swelling that slipped downa round her hock and lower leg, it was quite odematous, but did resolve over time.
  6. HOw is he going today? It is ehart breaking. Rommi had a little bleeding but didn't have a bandage as she had a TTO. I just left it as if I even looked like touching it she would move it and cry.
  7. Thanks, DD. Still can't move properly, still have ongoing issues from grafts and burns, still have back pain from lying still for so long (although I am sure I was turned), will never work again ........ some psychological issues, and maybe ptsd. Still on lots of pills --- this healing doesn't happen in a second, but seeing that film showed me that there had been some improvement ... well, I have hair now, and proper eyebrows and eyelashes. And I don't fall over as regularly as I used to. I am gradually recovering my strength, and I can now prune larger branches than I could, and slide the couch across the floor. I am grateful for all my friends .... and really ... for what the RSPCA did .. my dogs were better for the RSPCA intervention. No point in snivelling, it was my choice..... it is what it is. I would be suprised if you didn't have something like PTSD Jed, you have literally been to hell and back. The fact you have come as far as you have is amazing. You are just a bit special :)
  8. There are no episodes availble on yahoo 7 right now. I'm really upset I missed it, I knew the show had done a story on it but even if tonight was a repeat I've never seen it before. I would love a link as well. What channel was it on?
  9. YEp the first few days are awful and the do really look bad. I had the same feelings after having Rommi's done and all her otehr joints legs were fine. She looked so very sore. Gave her a few days thougha dn she came ahead in leaps and bounds, within a few weeks she was vastly improved, now I am VERY glad we did it.
  10. Whippet might tick your boxes, they do require exercise but a walk and an offlead run - doesn't have to be very long and they are happy :)
  11. I just don't get it either?? Why is it funny?? As you said often the dog is really really stressed out and they think that is funny?? I find it annoying, upsetting and frustrating! More than once I have had small dogs hanging off my large dogs and people thought it was funny as the big tough dog wouldn't fight back or defend it's self. Very very frustrating.
  12. on this page there are a couple of youtubes of my Whippies working http://www.ososwift.com/our-training-methods.asp :)
  13. Don't get too worried just yet it took Lewis over 2 years for him to start producing sperm, 2 years 3 or 4 months??? Easier to say than do I know. fingers crossed things return to normal soon. Such a worry
  14. Rommi is currently 11kgs and Lewis 14.5 - weighed them this morning :) I would consider them both fairly average :)
  15. A wagging tail means a dog is aroused and should never be focused on without taking all the other body language into account. I have had reasonable marks and bruises from playing with dogs I have had reasonable marks from not particularly hard contact. It is very feasible that this man had some very decent injuries even if the dogs at that point were not dead set on trying to kill him. To have dogs of that size and number coming at you would be terrifying!
  16. I have a pen and little note pad along with a small tape measure.
  17. 8 cups of food is a huge amount and I would be worried about bloat. I used Advance Active on my Dobe many moons ago but there are some really good foods for active dogs. I would try a different food and see how they go.
  18. 14 months for the 6 month implant - goodness!!! Did you get a semen test done at all??? I got one on Lewis done around 4 to 5 weeks after his testicles rapidly returned to normal etc, and he was at that point classed as having low fertility. I am hoping an extra 7 to 8 months will see that ahs improved!! Time will tell. Great to see people are stilla dding their experiences, I think we may justa bout have the most comprehensive collection of real life data available!
  19. It seems they were warming up, I think he is lucky - well in a manner of speaking - that the dogs were grabbed before they got more serious. It looked like they were testing the waters, looking for their in. Without anyone around I think it would have gotten much nastier. He is a very lucky man.
  20. Lewis is quite pushy and can be a bit of a pain if not given enough to occupy his mind, I love it though, he is my velcro boy who would get inside my skin if he could. Rommi is happy to lay next to you or touching your skin. She LOVES working as well and is very good but will work to a point, Lewis would work until he dropped dead from exhaustion if you asked it of him. He did a 20km endurance trial and was still raring to go :)
  21. Love the photos :) yep I would say $800 to $1000 as a general rule :) Some sighthounds can be a bit stand offish with people they don't know, they are not timid they just see no worth in talking to an unknown person. They will put up with people patting them but will not shower them with affection. Then........ You have the type of Whippets mine are........ Visitors come into the house and they are jumped on - by one in particular - I have to send them to their bed do they don't embarrass me totally, then they sneak off and are all over them again before you know it. Turn you back and they are sitting on your visitors lap getting their belly scratched. It's do embarrassing!!!!! I don't care if a paper is published, it was not a true representation of sighthounds and their temperment
  22. Very true, yep somethings made me think hmmmmmmm I don't get to shows and trials very often, young kids, a new boarding Business and around 750kms take care of most of that, but hey if that becomes a factor when listing litters so be it :)
  23. If my dogs are out of my sight they are not under effective control - simple!!!! Yes it is terrible, I feel for the family but there are always three sides to every story. That particular famer my have had stock mauled very recently? they may be sick of roaming dogs. I love dogs but have one roaming on my place and it may not go home. I ahve ewes with lambs, calves, pet cheep, cattle cats dogs etc, they are my first priority.
  24. At the end of the day it is Troys site, don't like it? don't use it, quite simple really :)
