I know in many european conutries desexing is not the norm and many pet dogs are entire and live happy healthy long lives. Yes for many desexing is the key as they cannot keep their dogs from falling pregant etc but I would prefer facts are used when pushing it rather than the scare tactics.
-
If all the entire dogs died from nasty cancers ect before maturity then there would be no puppies. I would go with your breeders advice. I have had many dogs that have been desexed late or not at all and they have lived to old ages or died from something totally unrelated to their reproducutive organs. I have seen one dog with cancer in a retained testicle and he was 8 years of age. It is not going to spring up that quickly. I have seen quite a few dogs with retained testicles.

Lewis had to have the suprelorin implant for medical reasons. After that I am never going to desex him unless his life depends on it!!!!!!!! He is a much nicer easier to live with, FAR easier to train when he HAS his testosterone than when he doesn't. After mating his bitch he did try to be a bit humpy with the cat, that was addressed promptly and now he is back to his lovely normal self. He never cocks his leg in or close to the house, he pers on lots of trees etc which I don't care about. He will be staying entire.

New Survey For Dog, Cat, Bird And Rabbit Owners
OSoSwift replied to tjhowell's topic in General Dog Discussion
All done :) -
I think it depends on your vets and their experience. Mine like them to be a minimum of 30 days - although I am sneaking in a few days earlier the that from her last mating - I have heard of some being done at 26 days, not sure about any earlier than that though. Isn't the suspense awful!

Woohoo RV how exciting. Our US is at the end of the week :)
-
I have only ever owned entire males or males desexed later ie 8 years of age. I would definitely do it later. I wouldn't desex either sex of dog before maturity
-
Being a long week end I would think they would be booked out. Everyone seems to want things done on weekends and holidays as they leave it till the last minute. Good luck with getting her done.

Has Anyone Had Success Going Through Hollards Dispute
OSoSwift replied to bianca.a's topic in General Dog Discussion
Excellent news. -
I remember seeing a study that was done and they checked a young otherwise healthy young blokes cholesterol, then he was having something insane like 18 whole eggs a day and his cholesterol actually went down a bit. NOthing wrong with honest to goodness eggs. Just have an egg if you like them

Greenies if not chewed properly can cause obstructions I would not give them to a pet of mine at all. Raw bones is the way to go.

Hahahahaha yep I know the feeling. Rommi has mammary development but that happens ever heat anyway, I think maybe she has a pot gut, but she is only just around the 3.5 week mark so I think wishing on my behalf :)
-
Any updates RV? I am doing the oooh I think I can see a little pot to nooo it was just my imagination :) I picked the date in the middle of her matings so she could be more or less- doesn't help the doing my head in bit!!!!!!
-
Clip her off. Even small matts can be terribly uncomfortable for them.
-
Do I see a little pot do I not????????? It's doing my head in :) Food wise nothing has changed but she does seem to be either getting the hiccups or refluxing for some reason???

Been thinking of Roo, especially after having a similer dog stay with me at the kennels recently

Convincing Dogs To Get Their Feet Wet In The Morning...
OSoSwift replied to redangel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Conversation this morning. OH - Lou Lou is out ( his princess name for Lewis) Me - what about Rommi OH - no princess sook pants won't get her tootsies wet. She refuses to get off her bed for him. I walk over , c'mon Rommi lets go. She does this awkward bouncy spring run thing then quickly pees and gets off the wet horrible grass as soon as possible. She always listens to me though :) -
Yep I have seen those, but the place I am getting mine from has 4 mm weldmesh and 100 X 50 holes - I would prefer 50 X 50 - so worth the higher price for what I am wanting them for.

OSoSwift replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
OOoh will check it out :) Hi Ososwift, sorry I should also have explained that we have only very recently started stocking RHVC and have yet to put it on our website, hence why I didn't post it. FYI, we are selling the 500mg tub for $110 including Regular Postage to any Australian destination. Hope this helps. Cheers :) Hehehe well that explains that :) I don't need any for a little bit but will file that info away for when I do, thank you :) -
Woohoo exciting :) I have never seen Rommi refuse food even when not well and recovering from major surgery so I am wondering if that will happen with her at all :)
-
Very cool boss :)
-
Yes but they like them a minimum of 30 days here so won't be for a little bit. I am wondering if she is slightly more potty than normal in her gut, maybe I am wishing :) I know her weight hasn't changed :) Hate the waiting!!!!!!
