I guess because people - generally speaking - value those and many other areas more than the vet or animal industries- unless those areas can or potentially can earn a fortune. Generally the animal care industry is less of a money spinner - yes I know racing is a huge one.

Geez stopping calcium at three weeks is a worry. I have been told not to feed it as long as the bitch has a correct diet - either dry or raw, and only to use it if they become unwell/ get milk fever. I have it on hand and gave it during whelping

Because people don't value the industry and animals ( generally speaking) as much as areas like human health.

I have had it in a Dobe who died from Dilated Cardio Myopathy before it could cause much more of an issue and she also had spinal spondylosis so that didn't help

Could You Be Your Dog's 'heart Person'?

Within 24 hours of picking up Lewis he was mine. He likes people and he will snuggle with other people but I am the one human he will do anything to get to. We are on a farm and if I leave him at the house for example, if someone opens the door and he gets outside he will run to the kennels. If I am not at the kennels he will run to my inlaws and back until he finds me or convinces himself I am not there. For that reason if I am not here he is in his dog yard where he cannot get out or let out accidentally. My HUsband took him for a drive around the sheep, I was at the house, he stopped at the shed to get something, Lewis got out fo the car and was running home not listening to the calls to come back. I call him once he spins on a dime. My husbands now deceased Stafford got fed by me, I did all of his daily care etc. I was okay, my husband said lets go, I was left in his dust! -
If my dog was a rescue with unknown history then they would have had to accept I couldn't find out for them.

They did that with Lewis as well, a total pain in the arse and I did have contact with previous owners.

Can Electric Pulse Collars Be Used Humanely
OSoSwift replied to snake catcher's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs are under very close supervision. I have a dog proof yard ( as much as I can make it)so far I have been lucky, just today while looking to the right as the dogs honed in on something I missed a snake that was slightly to the left and laying very still. Luckily the dogs were on leads and I saw it before Lewis stepped oevr it, they dogs did get hoicked back but it scared crap out of me. I try to avoid snakes also but when you can open your back door and step on one it sometimes make them a bit hard to avoid. The only reason we have considered using this method on our young working dog is he will be out working in the paddocks all through the year and he will come across them. I don't want to have to rely on him being too busy working and hope he doesn't see them. He has been taught leave it. -

If it saves dogs from being bitten I am all for it. I have seen many snake bitten dogs and other animals. It is a small aversive compared to a whole lot of pain and suffering and they may not survive. -
Protech Duramune is registered as a triannial and can be used for puppy vacs as well. It advertises that is gives immunity so long as one shot is given after 12 weeks of age ie a pup can have just two vaccinations and be appropriately covered, but it its given earlier (6 and 10 weeks) then a third vaccination is necessary to know that in most pups maternal antibodies would have reduced enough for the vaccine to be effective. Other vaccines state that a vaccination is required after 14 weeks of age for coverage which is why there are a variety of recommendations. The shot one year later is only done to catch any non responders to the puppy vaccinations rather than boosting the puppy vaccine. So I have titre tested and if it comes back positive then they would need their next shot at 3yrs of age. Thank you that makes sense :) So many vaccines and regimes these days :)

OH that is terrible, those poor people not only losing a child but they will never ever forget that day ever. That would have been agonising physically and mentally.
-
OH while I think about it they don't give the trienniel at 16 weeks do they? I thought they only gave the trienniel at the 1 year booster - I may well be wrong though.

Happy 3 week birthday babies :)

Ahh righto now I get it :) I am quite sure my local vet only does the two, well they did last time I checked :)

Every update is welcome and helpful :) I forgot to update Rommi had 5 rather large babies with 4 surviving :) and they are rather divine :) -
LAst time I had a puppy done - which was 5 years ago, I did two puppy vaccines then a yearly one 12 months later. Have the recommendations gone back to three puppy vacc's again?
-
Okay sorry was confused. I thought the regime was puppy vacc's, first yearly vacc then every three years as well???
-
They are just too adorbale, that huge tummt for four babies, but my aren't the big for e teeny little Iggy???? She is a very barve strong young lady. Those colours are divine!

I would think his puppy vaccinations may be done then you can give him the triennial vacc for his first yearly booster which is at around 14 15 months, why does he need it now? If you give him another vaccination in two weeks you will be over loading his system just a bit
