I am looking at buying a humane dog trap to fit a dog over say cattle dog size. We have had some young lambs recently killed or injured in a way not consistent with injuries caused by foxes. I have had to put another one down today. Unfortunately we have reasonably large acreage but are starting to be surrounded by small hobby farms of a couple of hundred acres, everyone seems to have dogs that they let roam their acreage. Any links much appreciated

Yes it was to Vetpath as far as I'm aware. Surely the courier cost can't be that much? Does that quote incorporate the vet consult fee? I didn't include that, as Bruno was already at the vet for MCT surgery and I asked them to take blood for titre testing at the same time. It included the Path fee, plus mark up, Collection fee, reporting/certificate fee and freight.

Really, where would I get that???? Health food shop??? Many moons ago when I got some it was from the pharmacy From memory I gave 3 or 4 drops per day to a 42kg dog

Just a tad cheaper than the $200 odd I got quoted and all our bloods go to Vetpath

He will most likely be fine, you will remember it for a lot longer. Take him around safe dogs as suggested and yes learn to imbrace your innner tough guy. Stand infront of him and yell it/say it like you mean it, look and say it like you mean it and most dogs will back off, if not that is what your feet are for, or if long enough the end of your lead. It is also amazing what you can pick up and throw when your dogs life depends on it!

Nooooo they are Rockmelons - and disgusting, but besides the point!

Carrot root oil will also improve his red, a couple of drops per day.

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Lewis took slightly longer than that, so lets hope it happens soon. When it did wear off it happened quite suddenly! -
I am guessing you would have tried Livamol?? Mmmm no I actually dont think I have ... What is it OSoSwift, and where can I get some??? It is a feed supplement generally fed by horse people but other livestock people use it as do dog people. Is very good for improving coat healtha nd shine/lustre but also turns Chestnuts liver chestnut, bays a lovely red. IT is not particularly expensive and you should be able to find small bags of it in some petstock like stores of horse/livestock feed stores. Here is some info on it. IT says dogs get 1 to 3 tablespoons. I LOVE the smell :) http://www.animalhealthstore.com.au/livamol.html

It is common practice for animals to stay overnight without anyone there, unless they require close or frequent monitoring/checks. When my dog had her TPLO they usually keep them for the night, I asked to bring her home. One vet had a dig at me but I said well I am not your average pet owner having been a vet nurse for 15 years and having worked at that clinic but not with that vet. I can have her crated by my bed, hear her if she needs to get up or is in a lot of pain, bleeds etc. If she stays here she is in a cage over night with no-one to monitor her and she knows no-one is nearby so she will be less likely to settle. I am not going to panic and call you for no reason. The vet couldn't argue with that. The above is the reason I do not leave my dogs locked in my house when I am not here unless they have to be crated for a medical reason. I feel sorry for the poor owners knowing just how close it came when theya re obviously already going to be under duress

Clicker Training, A Good Idea?
OSoSwift replied to airlock's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Exactly. If you know what you are after and want to do specific sports then yes you will choose a puppy/dog you believe will give you the best chance at succeeding in that area - that makes ense. Why train harder than you have to??? I have one dog that will work and work well but won't work for as long and as hard, the other would work until he dropped from exhaustion - strange to some since they are Whippets - the baby I chose was the one who to me showed the temperment most like his father so I hope he too would work until he dropped. -
How Much Did Your Pup Weigh At 8 Weeks?
OSoSwift replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh interesting, Rommi is 11kgs now and I don't think she would have been 5.5 by 9weeks, I think she was around 3 or 3.5 at 8 weeks................will have to try and find it I will double check what Wilson was as well -

I want to try an establish really good tug with my Whippet pup. He is not quite 12 weeks old. When or how it the best time or way to start tug with a pup? Obviously you have to be careful around teething time, any pointers appreciated :)
-
That line right there would mean I would never go to one unless there is no other choice at all - scary!
-
My dog has had many toe X-rays - only sprains/ strains so far thankfully! She hasn't been GA'd however she is well trained, happy to be handled and has a solid stay. These days I tend to strap ASAP with a technique gained from experienced Whippet racing people and they have healed quickly and without issue while allowing the dog to exercise :)

Clicker Training, A Good Idea?
OSoSwift replied to airlock's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have two dogs, one has good drive, the other reasonable. They both work very well. One was harder work than the other but it is my job to as Kavik said, to get the best out of the dog I have I front of me. Of course if I choose a dog I will choose the one with the naturally higher drive as I don't have to work so hard to build it. That is just basic common sense really. -
Do You Like It When Strangers Interact With Your Dogs?
OSoSwift replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't mind if they ask but it annoys me if they descend on the dog without asking. If I am obviously training I can get a bit annoyed with too many interruptions but that can depend on my mood on the day. Most people in that type of circumstance wait until you are finished, I don't mind chatting then :) -
How Much Did Your Pup Weigh At 8 Weeks?
OSoSwift replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
A GSD at only 4.8kgs at 8 weeks - that isn't much more than my Whippet! My male was only 3.8KG at 8 weeks, he was tiny but all 6 from the litter were about the same size. He will be 2 in a few weeks and weighs 34KG. Blimey I hope my Whippet doesn't grow that enormous!!!! My 7kg Dobe bitch ended up 30kgs my 8.5kg Rotti bitch ended up 45kgs -
Hmmmmmm it is a lot of money buuuuttttttttttt -yuk!
