Hmmmm a hard one. My first choice is a pedigree purebred puppy from a breeder. I have taken on older purebred rego'd dogs from breeders. I have bred my own pupas well. If I couldn't get a puppy from a breeder it would be a rescue, preferably younger rather than older and from a breed rescue. I wouldn't get a dog direct from the pound unless it was an 8 week old pup. Even then it would have to be an exceptional pup.

Since where I live we don't have buses, trains or a vet hospital that is that busy we don't have enough seats then it isn't an issue. However age does not demand respect, respect does. I have a basic level of respect for all people ( which also includes putting my child on my knee if the need arises and a seat is needed) that respect is easy to lose and very difficult to get back. Demanding my child stand just because you are older would honestly give me the shits. My basic level of respect would have slipped very quickly. As if you may have the seat, then no worries, it would be done. I was taught all people deserve a certain level of respect, however I was also taught ( from a young age) that respect is a two way street and I did not have to respect people just because they were my elders. If they were rude arseholes, they were rude arseholes- age didn't come into it. To be perfectly honest if someone was a rude arsehole to me about a seat anywhere my stubborn would kick in and they would be told to go jump - very politely of course :) no need to lower myself to their level. Now this may come across as me being very rude and inconsiderate, which I am far from. However if there are spare seats at the vets I will put my dog up there if that is where they are happy. Oh and if there are pregnant or obviously unwell people I and my kids would happily stand. If I am asked politely I and my kids would happily stand as we would for the aged.

My Dobe did Obedience and agility with no issues, as did another Dobe in WA who became a very highly titled dog. PIty my dog died at 8 years of age. Do your research adn only go to breeders who health test. As you would already know the test don't cover everything but they are a bloody good start.

Okay then, one dog needs to be rehomed, choose whichever you believe is the best one to rehome. If it is the cattle dog return him to where you got him from.
-
I would rehome the ACD and I would take him back to the shelter you got him from. I have lived with dogs that had to be ran separately or there would be massive injuries and possible death. Living like that is hard work and I would never do it again

Exactly - when I talk a cup it is a metric measuring cup, level with the top. Some peoples cup is an enormous mug that once was two and a half cups when I checked it.

No I don't take my dogs to other peoples houses unless expressly invited, they stay home. If the seats were material I woudln't allow them on them - although material seats in a vet is a contamination control nightmare! If I do take my dogs to others houses they are crated unless I am told they can be otherwise. If my bitch was in season or discharging no I would not put her on a seat, I am afraid I can't do anything about an aroused dog with it's penis sticking out of it's shealth, but I don't have many issues with my boys doing that. If my dogs are on seats they have to sit quietly just like they do when they are on the floor. Sometimes they sit on my knee, sometimes they stand on the floor. I was greeted by someone I knew outside the vet clinic who allowed her dog to come up to mine before I could stop it, I pulled him away and then she proceeded to tell me the dog was in becasue it had caught fox mange - now that pissed me off, nothing to do with having the dog on a seat though..............

I have been using the K9 Super fuel on my Adult male Whippet for a little while. He has had some issues with tearing muscles, and then re-injuring even after months of rehab and being careful. I have put him onto the Superfuel in an attempt to get sounder stronger muscle. So far his muscle tone has improved and he had had two trips to the beach with no muscle tears, I haven't had him chasing balls into the waves though. I will give him some more time then try that. My young male Whippet is fairly typical and doesn't manage to eat as much as he quite needs compared to the energey he burns off. I have started adding the puppy gold to his meals and it has increased the amount he is eating but also delivering more calories to try and get the cover I want back onto his frame. He is looking better so will see how he goes over the longer term :)

I had a bitch Whelp and raise a singleton with ease. Within hours I can guarantee that bitch would have been distraught if you had taken her baby away. Over time she went into full on protector mode and yeh good luck to anyone who tried!! If the pup is going to be taken away do it cleanly and early, no scent on a stuffed toy, no leaving it for 24 hours then removing the pup. If of course mum doesn't care about the pup then it's easy, if she does then it is cruel IMO.

My Dobe used to get the occasionally. If they were a pimple with a head I would squeeze them. If they looked like a pimple but not squeezable then I would - if there was one - pluck the hair out of the middle and then stick some betadine or Neocort on them. Healed up no worries. I laugh/snorted at twat rumour

me too please -
Very obese dogs can have skin issues purely becasue their skin is so stretched, also skin on feet can be awful becasue they are carrying sooo much weight. the tidbits may be the issue as well, he may be sensitive to something off the table. I would get him a thorough check over, thyroid included, get him on a good quality food, try and curb extras and see what happens from there.

If that IG is the one I am thinking of it says he became an accredited assistance dog in 08. Is he certified at all or just a good imagination? -
OT - but I don't see the issue with clinic dogs or cats either as long as they are not going up to patients or getting in other dogs/cats faces. Most clinics see both dogs and cats so the chances are eventually there will be at least one of each in the waiting room together at some stage. It is my responsibility to keep my dog quiet and well behaved. That includes when the clinic cat walks along the bench or may walk across the other end of the room
-
My vet would never expect or ask a first year vet to do a caesar solo. They are always making sure they have supervision and ask questions no matter how trivial they may seem.
-
My vet hospital has clinic cats. Usually they are asleep in their basket behine the desk and you are not quite sure if they are alive or a toy! I don't like loose dogs but no issue with under control animals in, on or under chairs.
-
I give my Whippets around a 1/3 of a scoop. Any more and the male especially gets an upset tummy. He cannot handle a lot of fat so I am guessing that is why. Their coats are great on that amount. I don't give it to the baby.
-
First year vets can be awesome! They are not scared to say I don't know I will ask or I will research. Yes they don't have much practical knowledge but I would prefer a young vet who will happily ask anotehr vet for an opinion or say they don't know than one who tries to bluff their way thorugh

There are dogs that are arses regardless of the height they are sitting. If mine get up when asked, get down when asked and sit their quietly then I cannot fathom the issue. Having said that generally if I take more than one in they are standing or whatever on the floor as I am more interested in making sure they are quiet and still and on short leads so I can head off any other dogs who feel the need to come up to them. They would sit on my lap as opposed to the chair anyway. Anyway guess I will continue just to not get the issue and leave it at that!
