All because they do not believe in contraception. No better an animal is dead than god forbid we use a contraceptive on it. Seems like other zoos animals aren't imploding due to the use of contraceptives. Comparing what they are doing to farmers breeding animals for the meat market is comparing apples to oranges and cannot be done.

Is the adult the parent of the cubs?

We have a Talon and a Blade down here as we as a Gage (gauge) I would have thought they were pushing it a little! Yes I agree the people who put money towards his release will be feeling very upset about now

Carbimazole is used in Graves Disease, so yes Hyperactive thyroid.

I used this on my Sphynx - one who had terrible bouts of IBS - worked brilliantly. I could only get capsules so I broke them open and sprinkled it on their food, it helped very quickly. I did use it for a good few weeks but that was as my cats gut was so inflammed.

Agreed RJ, I was like surely no-one would call their children that. Chained dogs, a bull breed who's owner is obviously hopeless as the dog has caused issues, not desexed or rego'd. Then a chained up Sharpei called Terror. The epitome of this was always going to end badly!!!!!! That poor pup, pure Dante for having a moron owner, poor children for witnessing something do horrific. Thank goodness they didn't inadvertently get in the middle of it since dad was next door and they were obviously playing outside when it happened. That woman should not be allowed to own any dogs!!!

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for your contributions Nudgie. This was started due to the lack of information on the net, so I am very glad it could help you. I wouldn't panic yet, I found that Lewis's testicles started increasing in size then plateau'd before suddenly getting rather large, rather quickly! I have heard up to 18months from implant to wearing off completely for a 6 month implant. Please keep us updated :) -
Yes he was but it is not an injury commonly seen in working bulls. Yes it would happen but not commonly. So it is perfectly feasible that he is an older mature bull and as they age they get bigger and heavier so it is possible he sustained it working, but I would having a little niggly doubt regarding conformation. I have had a few bulls and one was that big that they nearly had to send a special trailer out to pick him up as he barely fitted in the stock crate. He was 1500kg and his back was very close to the top of my head and I am 5'8. He was extremely agile on his feet - as my FIL found out when he went to get the bulls in on the bike one day and the bull decided to play. He had extremely good angulation and never had any issues working.

Weellll Yes, but I guess the argument is many bulls do their job day in and out and don't snap cruciates. I have never heard of it in any I know of in my limited knowledge - heard of broken penis's but not cruciates. So yeh is it an inherant weakness or just a bad luck accident?
-
Very good point!! If it is, I also hope they will stop selling his seed. I agree, if it's a conformational fault then yep I hope they do, however I have a dog who damaged her cruciate from a high speed impact with my other dog. I queried the vet numerous time regarding a genetic predisposition. They said no. So while it could be a weakness, it may be a total accident. They wouldn't have spent the money to keep him as a pet.

yay that is great news :)

Having worked in the veterinary industry for many years I saw perianal tumours twice out of a lot of dogs. Yes it is a risk but not a huge risk. I know of one dog who had testicular cancer. I live in an area with a high percentage of entire dogs, especially males
-
I own a kennel and currently have entire males and entire females - on of whom is in season. The MAles are cocking their legs a lot, but they quite often do that without a bitch in season. Theya re all eating well, playing not whinging and are quite happy. My own entire males are there every day, they do not pee inside the office or kitchen area, they are not humping, whinging or peeing everywhere etc. Two of my worst, filthiest dogs are actually desexed bitches. One in particular pee's and poops in her house, then runs through it even with outside access. She will pee whereever, and quite often on her bed.
-
At the earliest - after maturity which is variable on breed but not before 12 months. With bitches, if they have an issue that needs it to be done - ie Pyo or at an age when they are too old to breed from. With Males never unless medically required. I had one entire male - with an entire bitch - for 4 years, he didn't piss on everything, didn't hump and wasn't an arse. I now have three entire males. The working BC has taken to peeing on wheels so now my other boy does (the pup doesn't mark as yet but is starting to take a keen interest in smelling pee spots) I have bitches in season at the kennels and they still behave don't hump, don't fight or roam. I am yet also to experience this so called arsewipe male dog behaviour. If they are humping, train them not to. I see much of the apparent male dog behavioural flaws as owners lack of training flaws.

Conditioning Your Canine Athlete

I guess coming from a horse background it is normal to spell your horse after the last show, for at least a month, then bring them back in slowly in time for the first event of the new year., so that just transferred over to the dogs. Oh definitively some wear and tear, especially in the early stages would be completely not noticed, and yes dogs that are really driven will do their job and not even register something is not right. I had never really thought about it before as I always give the dogs time out. Dog club winds up, I am flat out at the kennels so we just do fun stuff for a good month like walks, playing, beach visits etc. It would be even more important with dogs that have a very full schedule throughout the year. -
Why on earth would you have a dog tethered to a kennel outside when you have bloody enormous snakes like that!

People don't spell their dogs???? That's insane, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear -
When I walk my dogs they are walked, briskly. I walk for fitness and fresh air, if it is meander time then they can sniff etc. They get to pee, sniff etc when they are off lead or taken somewhere to do that. I don't want them playing with unknown "she's friendly" type dogs. I have four they play heaps.

What a hard position to be in. I am so sorry two babies have gone but have to say thank you for putting the puppies needs first. I am thinking of you all at this time

After Pts Behaviour/trainer Help Please?
OSoSwift replied to Rainy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I say it as it is with my kids. They are very old/sick, whatever and their heart has stopped they have died. They see us bury them. So far that seems to help them understand it is permanent. Now they are getting older I imagine they will feel the emotional side far more than previously. I let my other animals see and sniff them. So far they have all coped quite well. -

Oh no I didn't think the post was specifically aimed at me, I am more thinking out loud so to speak. Yes I imagine it is very indepth. I have tried to read as much as possible but it sort of seems to come back to, you really need to see it to understand, which unfortunately doesn't help me much :) -

Hmm well I figure you can always improve, always, does my dog try very very hard, yes. THe pup is learning. When I get my boy out he is animated and bouncing and pushing to work. Someone asked me how I live with three of them, I was like huh??? they are quiet as, couch potatoes. They had only ever seen them at training acting like a controlled explosion. So do I think they try and give it their all, yes, is their work perfect? nope, not always thats why we train. Mostly it is me making sure I observe subtleties in my communication. I am wondering if we are talking about the same thing but with different ways of doing so or if we are poles apart? Do I have a different expectation of drive or engagment? Of course my dogs will work differently they are a different breed doing different stuff, I just wonder about the definition of drive. I am yet to get a clear indication of exactly what it is. I had read a lot of what it isn't. When I have read bits that try to explain it simply, it kinda sounds like bits of what it apparently isn't. I find this a tad frustrating to be honest.
