Travelling With Dog ,brisbane To Kalgoorlie
OSoSwift replied to Canisbellum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep all state Forrests will have been baited with 1080, also be very careful across the Nullabour for similar reasons. We stayed at Madura and they allow dogs but only in your own accomodation I believe. We are not too far from Kal and a lot of Kal people head out way for a holiday at the beach :) -
hahahaha a grown European man squeeeeeing - now that is excited :)

The pet industry is big business, premium pet foods are getting bigger and bigger. Makes good business sense to me :) -
Do Vets Send Found Dogs Straight To A Shelter?
OSoSwift replied to tikira's topic in General Dog Discussion
If my dogs get out and impounded I don't care, I know they are safe. If they get out and I get a fine I sick it up as they got out, I then try to rectify it. Most rangers should you have a serial escape artist will go reasonable easy on you if you are making an effort to stop them escaping. But if they do get impounded they are safe and that is the most important thing. -
How Far Does A Breeders Responsibility Extend?
OSoSwift replied to Edge's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would say in this instance the breeder is not responsible. If the breeder has done the appropriate testing relevant to that breed. They have taken all reasonable precautions to not breed a condition then they are not responsible. It isn't fair to hold a breeder liable for something that may or has quite likely occurred from feeding, environment etc after the pup has left and is in their new home. As mentioned very occasionally it comes under the shit happens heading. We are dealing with living creatures and sometimes despite everyone's best effort shit happens. When that does happen I do not think it is fair to try and pin the issue as someone fault, especially when they have done everything conceivable to avoid breeding an animal with issues as far as is possible. -
Do Vets Send Found Dogs Straight To A Shelter?
OSoSwift replied to tikira's topic in General Dog Discussion
The best place for found dogs to go is the pound, that is where people look for lost dogs. If they are injured the vets of course is the best place. People keeping them makes it harder for owners to find lost pets. In our area we have a very small pound and sometimes they just don't have room as we have a fast growing town, so in some cases if you have the correct facilities they will allow you to keep them as long as they have a full description and photos. Here our vets are not legally allowed to keep found dogs so if all is otherwise okay they go to the pound as soon as is possible. At least the dog is safe - that is the most important thing! -
I see no issue with a leave it or interrupting their eating if you put a few pieces of a high value treat in their bowl for thei troubles. I am not taking their food but teaching them, me interrupring is a good thing. I rarely do it though.

Regarding the bolded part, if this happened to dogs you were breeding from, would this action be enough to stop you from breeding from them in the future? I'm genuinely asking because I know breeders work hard to produce stable temperaments in their puppies so I'm wondering how this behaviour fits in temperament wise. No as she was a guarding breed and was otherwise a normal guarding breed. If you went near my car and put your arm in you would get bitten. Get let in by me and you would get cuddled and licked to death. If it happened in my Whippet then yes I would take it into consideration, in a Dobe no.

My dogs are taught leave it. If they have something in their mouth and they are told leave it, they spit it out. I can take anything from my dogs at any time and have never taken their food off them half way thorugh. I could also do whatever I wished with my Dobes and had never taken their food off them
-
I would say as they live next door to the park the dog was jst let out. I feel for the poor dog who has suffered due to his owners. I hope they take far better care of him this time around.

If you wish to "take" her food during eating, have super value treats, gain her attention, get her to sit and wait while you put super value treats in the bowl and then release her to eat again. I do not take my dogs food while eating and have had no issues on the very rare occassion I have had to interrupt their eating or someone has needed to brush past them they have had no issues

How about educating themselves to know that males in the wild kill the young. They could have separated them. Well yes that as well. They probably already know that but are coosing to be knob heads
-
Myself I have had Rottis, Staffords, Dobes, BC's and whippets with cats. All have been fine but I never leave the cats and dogs together in the house for example. The young whippet occasionally forgets himself and fly buys one cat and gets roared at for it.

Nope I said mine do now and are closely supervised and there is no going to others bowls or wandering past. They finish eating they get sent to their bed do the others can eat. None of mine growl at each other. My previous dogs were fed separately physically and out of sight. As I said the bloodbath would not have been worth it. My dogs now are whippets, my previous dogs were Dobes. They did end up fighting but not over food.

Animal Rescue Australia

Thank you, I will pass the info on. -
I was reading some information regarding horse people feeding soy meal to horses. It has been linked to fertility issues in stallions and mares due to phytoestrogens.
-
How about not breeding them???? Oh no sorry that would take brains, of course, silly me!!! Morons
-
Oh for gods sake!
-
And why euth the one who survived?
-
They obviously have been causing issues for a while. Why was nothing done before now?? V
-
My Whippets are fed in sight of each other but they are carefully supervised. Anyone tries to go to a others bowl, they are pulled up quick smart. My other dogs were always fed well away from each other, couldn't get near each other. The bloodbath wouldn't have been worth it.
-
Those poor dogs, they would have never stood a chance. If the two dogs are declared dangerous does that mean they would seize the pups as well ??? Stupid owners of the other dogs. I had a bitch turn human aggressive when she had pups, and dog anywhere near that whelping box would have died. Normally nowhere near that. Another case of people with no bloody idea breeding dogs and screwing it up royally

OSoSwift replied to Goldengirl25's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep I read up on Sentinel and it said it was safe in pregnant and lactating bitches but I didn't want to risk it :) From memory Rommi had hers about a week before mating.
