I don't think we need extra leave. I have taken a sick day and a day without pay before

My understanding is that while any pure white dog has a higher potential for hearing issues than the average dog, white Staffords in general are very unlikely to have hearing issues. Something to do with good pigment. Can't quite remember exactly though.......

Had a TPLO done in my whippet , the smallest they had ever done. It did take a while but now I am pleased they did that instead of the extracapsular repair option as she is also very athletic and energetic. Mine wasn't done by a specialist but a good result. Best of luck finding the right person and with the repair and recovery.

I have three dogs, one I have claimed $2500 for, the other two nothing. The first one I did recently claim a stitch up and have cliamed a couple for her over the years. If I saved $2400 per year I woudl have been back to minus then still probably not had quite enough to cover the otehr claims. It is peace of mind for me as I have so many other things needing monetary imput at the moment that having to find thousands of dollars suddenly would be very stressful.

I'm The Luckiest/unluckiest Person I Know

My brother dubbed his dog rag on a roll. If it was cloth and she could she would eat it, then try and poo it, come running throwing herself at him. He would know what it meant and once again be pulling cloth out if her bum. How it never killed her I don't know and how she managed to sneak and eat do much of it and why, I will never know. But yes totally gross! I hope you day improves vastly! -
Does This Look "wrong" To Anyone Else?

I woudl think she should stretch out much more than that. Sacroilliac issues can be a total pain to sort and stay sorted, I know from experience because mine give me a hell of a time quite often! Woudl it be possible to keep her restricted even to a large puppy pen with a lid when inside and the on a lead outside as you don't want her losing muscle tone to help her heal before she does maddies and makes it go all sckew wiff again?? -
My vets do not charge more for insured animals, the costs are the same. However for me having my animal insured means quite often I do go the more expensive option first as their is not the monetary consideration that there would be if I didn't have insurance. Prime example, lame dog, fat swollen toe. Options, painkillers, strap and rest and see how it went over a few days. Xray to rule out a Fx. I went straight to xray.

You can have adverse reactions to anything, natural, man made and in between! Best is to try and see, if you have an adverse reaction don't try that again, if not give it a go it might just help.

Exactly!

Any behavioural issue should have a full medical check up just to rule that out. Many issues can be medical and the only symptoms or at least early symptoms are behavioural. If that all pans out okay then yep onto the behaviour.
-
I would video his body language around you as well. As if visited by a behaviourist he may act differently. He doesn't have to be growling and you don't want to force the behaviour incase you inadvertently escelate it. Just videoing his body language generally.

Good advice Diva

They do as you tell them or they don't interact with the dog - simple. If they try it more than once they are told they will not be welcome back until they live by the rules.

Sad to hear your girl didn't make it but well done on doing the right thing for her. Amazing people can make the correct decisions and not be, what was it???? "Bleeding hearts" when it is necessary. Funny that.
-
I am not a bleeding heart I am practical. I stated if the pup appeared to be holding its own I don't see the issue. I know a dog like this and her repair surgery took 10 minutes, 20 max. I saw her recently at 12 years of age. If the pup is not holding it's own then yes I agree euthanasia should definitely be considered. I asked the opinion of two stafford people I respect greatly and it appears that I am not a total idiot for thinking the way I do.

I can understand euthing for cleft palates but think that is a bit over the top where just the lip is involved and the pup is otherwise feeding and growing okay.
-
Harelips can be surgically corrected, you just need to snip the skin from each side of the hairlip and suture together inside and out.

OUr Local Friends of the RSCPA run the one day here and all the money stays locally. They are not having their's until October as all fo the foreshore is fenced off for another few months
-
Yes I have seen it twice in a Stafford and am Am Staff. In both cases the pups were tube fed as they couldn't create a good enough seal to get adequate milk. They had the lip sutured when older with no ongoing issues

Cat did very very good and regardless of motivation, I believed saved that kids life
-
OH no a feel good story, lets all get all annoyed about anthropomorphising and make sure people don't get carried away now. Because cats and dogs do not and cannot care about humans they only care about themselves. Scientific tests prove it!
-
Agree with above. It really isn't that much hassle to register pups or once registered transfer them to their new owners. I also would be wanting to know what health testing has been done on the parents
-
8monrhs old wow very scary for such a young age. It didn't like kids or bikes - what the hell was it doing out there???????
-
I also like how after the cat saw the dog off, he ran back under the car towards the child. I think if that dog had of come back, kitty was ready for round two!
-
My mum had a cat that definitely had the potential to do similar. A person turned up knocked on the door came. After a period of time mum said oh no did you bring your dogs, he said oh shit I forgot you have cats. The dogs had killed feral cats in the past. We went outside to see two dogs in the corner of the yard with bloody noses and a cat sitting three feet away cleanng her ears. She also would not let mum smack us if she was there. On more than one occasion she put herself between us and mum and stood three quarters on, hackles up hissing. Interestingly she was mums cat. That dog definitely meant business, it was straight in, no posturing, no walking around or perimeter walking. Straight in. I think that child would have been severely injured had that cat not been there. As hard as it would have been for her to leave her child she certainly used her common sense in getting the dog contained as I would have been very worried the dog would have comeback again. I don't think I could have remained that level headed
