  1. I looked up the BOB Labrador winner from Crufts and in his photos he looked like he was fit not fat. He did look to be in differing body condition from the OPs photo of the Wesminster- I think- Labrador.
  2. In the show ring it is obviously easier to see dogs weight when they are not coated. I don't go around sticking my hands on peoples dogs to see what their weight is. My bigger concern is seeing some show dogs who obviously lack condition and muscle especially when they are from a working breed. However I like my dogs to be in the peak of fitness and not overweight, otehrs may not notice it or find it as concerning.
  3. The reference to a dog carrying more weight - in that example 1kg - was not saying the dogs are fat in the show ring compared to the dog sport ring. They were saying their dogs carry a little more weight in the show ring compared to the dog sport ring. Mine quite often do, although these days I tend to do weekends that I show, and trial at the same time. My dogs if going to a show only weekend typicaly around 500grams more than if they are at a trialing weekend. If theya re tiralling they carry not a gram more of cover than they need to. This means that often we have 4 or more ribs peaking thorugh, in the show ring I only want one or two. They look slightly smoother with that few hundred grams more on. They are still very fit they just carry a little more. If they were coated I wouldn't bother. My working dog is very lean he has no extra fat and at times it is hard to get weight on him, but he has very good muscle and could and does run all day working sheep without knocking up. i would not show him at that weight I would put a little more on him as being able to feel the top of hip bones and all his ribs easily is probably not the best for the ring. That is not to say he would be fat. There are some dogs of different breeds that are fat in the show ring. Different people have different views of what fat is. My view and I find that of most people who do dog sports and those that have very fit athletic dogs is that the leaner dogs are perfect. Many others think it is too skinny.
  4. There is a vast difference between stocky, broad, well filled out and fat.
  5. So the yellow bitch gaiting down the bottom is substandard with flat feet and a dippy topline?? okay then.......... I can just about guarentee you will not find a Lab in the field with as much fat as the Lab in the first photo in the OP.
  6. I hear this all the time from people I teach, both with BC's and other breeds. It drives me nuts! Why does it drive you nuts? The fact people do it or the fact people talk about it?
  7. I run my dogs around 500gms fatter in the show ring verses the dog sport ring. If I am doing both I show them at the leaner weight. Some judges don't like it, I don't like fat dogs. Their is muscley, fit lean and solid then there is fat. Two totally different things. A Lab can be 30+ kgs of muscle or 30 +kgs of fat and no muscle
  8. Sounds very dodgy. A pup can still be bred from papers or not. To avoid someone breeding registered dogs all she has to do is put the pup on limited register. It costs very little. The receptionist needs a good boot up the arse!
  9. I have some coming from the Wolfs Den :) They look great
  10. Whatever the rules are. If that is not on the furniture then so be it. I remember staying at one place who had allowed dogs inside but asked they not be on furniture/beds. After some previous people had left and they went to do their cleaning, they had allowed their on heat bitch to sit on every lounge chair and bed in the place leaving blood stains on everything that the owners then had to get cleaned. People may not understand why their darling is not allowed, but I can certainly understand accommodation places having rules as unfortunately many don't care one iota, and that is who they have to cater to.
  11. I do not go on our local but sell swap FB pages as it does my head in. Thankfully the moderators of the main one will not allow cats/kittens to be advertised unless they comply with the new laws.
  12. Apparently of the dogs/puppies and subsequently born puppies, 50% were said to be euthed by the RSPCA from those involved with these dogs. Of course you will never get actual numbers as the RSPCA is under no obligation to share so won't.
  13. NO Izzy that Whipitgood had that the RSPCA then took. Izzy was from this raid.
  14. This is from a while ago, but apparently the mother tried to leave the state. Seems revolting runs in families!
  15. Just another vicious dog attack in a beat up article by the media. The dog would have had more major issues than a bit hungry.
  16. Link to Bobtail Boxer breeding program hereMy link As far as I am aware there has been for a long time, a bobtail gene in Rottweilers. It has only really been since docking got banned that it has become more widely known. I may be wrong though :)
  17. LOL ejaculation can happen at the most awkward times - never forget the look on a friend's face as she was giving a last minute grooming polish up to her dog ringside on top of the trolley and he suddenly ejaculated all over the trolley!!! "I hardly even touched it!" she said, face flaming as red as a beetroot! Sorry slightly OT but had to share that memory! Hahaha Oh my, at least I was the only person to witness Lewis's "moment" hehehehehe
  18. Yes they can. I had my entire male asleep next to me on the bean bag, he started to twitch a bit then it became rhythmic. Pulled back the blanket and he had ejaculated and was still asleep. My bitch was in season but was at my kennels not at the house. Eww, that would be a nasty surprise. Lets just say he was woken up very quickly after being turfed out of the bean bag which was then washed!
  19. I would look at getting the opening of his a health made bigger. I would also not leave it hours as there is a very real danger of the loss of blood supply to the penis.

  21. I would also go with keeping the raw and finding another natural supplement such as VAN
  22. I have the tinned food in the kennels. Most dogs like it, it can tempt fussy eaters and isn't full of junk. It also smells good when opened. I do wish they would make the large tins in a single protein source though.
