  1. Phrase it as you wish, but these babies are being denied feeding from their mother and are apparently going at 6 weeks which it has been said the breeder has no issues with it. If I had of been told that by either of my breeders there would have been some realtionships severed. Not to mention it is in all states Canine Code of Ethics and also in many states it is legislated. Just because dogs were once rehomed at 6 weeks does not make it right or correct. I would hope as we get better educated in life and learn more we do what is best with the information that is known at the time. The breeder has stated it is fine to do something which goes blatantly goesagainst their organisations COE.
  2. Mum will tell them when she has had enough. Sometimes in one day she will go nope they are yours now, sometimes it's more gradual. I just do not see the rush with getting rid of them at 6 weeks??? You gain nothing. They need to learn how to speak dog and play nice with siblings and mum. Once they are 8 weeks ( or more) then their human socialisation needs to happen in their new homes. It is only two more weeks what's the rush??? They are gone for a long time. I also agree that your breeder is not ethical if they advocate that babies get forcefully when and booted out at 6 weeks, and your vet needs some educating. They are still such babies at 6 weeks
  3. I don't know anything about GSD's however I would recommend a second opinion - even better if someone can recommend one who has a good knowledge of your breed. I am also assuming parents were hip and elbow scored? Not that that is a totally guarentee of no issues of course :)
  4. NOt every single point is 100% exactly what I would agree with, but I think that majority of it is sound and a good tool in helping people choose a breeder for their next puppy. I also think hobby/professional breeders do overlap and that is a good thing. The main thing it does is points out some very vaild points on those to avoid. I shared this on my FB and upset one person who it just so happens has a family member who's 13mo unrego'd bitch is about to have babies. Breed standard, what breed standard? And also there are many reputable established breeders who are breeding to have very sound dogs that look as they should and can do the function they were bred for. I don't see the issue. There are always going to be a small portion of people who do not do the right thing in all areas, this is a tool to help to try to identify those people.
  5. I can fully understand not having the dog in the room with the migraine suffers. Even their breathing can be to loud with a bad one. Other than that I will bow out and wait for those more in the know :)
  6. I like it, as you say a couple of little things but otherwise very very good. Troy would it be possible to pin this? I think it has lots of interesting information.
  7. Try having a Whippet......................... I have them and have used them BUT they are no good for stopping them getting to legs/feet or potentially boy bits. My bitch has used one and the wound was on the front of her chest near the point of her shoulder so it stopped that really well. Other than that she isn't a dog that licks her various sutured wounds she has had, thankfully
  8. All his poor dog was/is, is a money ticket!
  9. I would clean it off with a hand dental scaler. I added Proden to my cats diet and it didn't seem to make much difference. The dogs had one type of dry food which was shocking for it, changed it and its just about all come off - they do get treats and bones but was the same with the other dry food. If there are little spots I clean them with a hand scaler.
  10. What a complete prick! I will pick that arse up by the skin on his back and see how he likes it!
  11. Aiden was offering his very educated opinion, just because it doesn't agree with yours does not make it off topic????? I have given my dog their puppy course then a triennial at 15 months. I am considering giving them a titre at that 3 year booster mark. I have worked with and seen parvo and what it can do hence my somewhere in the middle take on it. My vet charges the path fees, a consult and a collection fee. I was originally told $250 but I know someone who got it done more recently and it was under $100. We are in WA and they send all their bloods to vetpath.
  12. Geez if she wanted her dog back why on earth would you say you couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again?????? But really the dog was in distress and needed treatment, if it was infact a tragic mistake, then she should have been distraught and damn certain she wouldn't do it again! I have no idea who it is but geez, you have to wonder about some people! I hope they are caring for her coat properly so it doesn't get shaved off like some of the Tibetans.
  13. I know of cases where that certainly has happened.
  14. me too, they look fabulous. excited now! I am getting them so that their chest is covered and if its cold they will have those and then their double polar fleece with tummy wrap over the top. Mine are in their dog yard with kennels when I am out so I want them nice and toasty :) Plus little sod Wilson has suddenly decided he likes to pull his off! So these will help stop that.
  15. Rally around means making phone calls, finding someone who can take a dog, picking up dogs and moving them around, donating money, donating food, trying to find suitable homes. YOu know what this has totally pissed me off. I have kids and other pets that I value highly. I take in what I can when I can but I WILL NOT put my children, cats, dogs, pet Alpaca, sheep, goats or horse at risk because someone thinks against their measure of perfection, I don't do enough. People do and give what they can, if that is not good enough for you then tough shit. At least they are doing something. If you are getting pedigree dogs into rescue and the breeders don't care then chances are they are shit breeders, because you know what, all the ones I know would move heaven and earth to get one of their dogs or puppies out of the pound or from rescue. Would they take any and all of their breed? Quite possibly not and I don't judge them for that because they are doing all that they can, which is a hell of a lot more than some. How dare you accuse breeders on here of not caring or not doing or giving enough, do you know their personal situation? no, woohoo good on you you do everything for all dogs that are your breed or look like them, well done big pat on the back for you - guess what not everyone can. They are doing what they can. You might deal with some scum bucket breeders, but you know what I know of a few dogs just recently that have been rehomed or returned to breeders from their owners for various reasons and rescues and pounds and shelters have never heard of them because it has all been sorted behind the scenes - shit must be bad breeders not rescuing from shelters/pounds. You may have had a crap time recently with dumped dogs/breeders but that is no excuse for treating people like selfish arseholes. Not everything is black and white and if you continue to expect life to be like that youa re constantly going to be disappointed.
  16. Now you are just having a tantrum. I have taken dogs on not of my breed or that I have bred. Not everyone is an arsehole and not everyone can be expected to take back any dog of their breed that shows up. I have my own dogs, a business, young children and a variety of other pets that I will not risk, I am not going to take on anything just because you believe I should. I have taken on half dead flea ridden dumped dogs myself you are not a martyr. Thank you for everything you do, every dog is worth a second chance, not everyone has the ability or facilities to take on all and sundry. I also have rescued horses, cattle, sheep, goats and cats. Who are you to judge what people can and cannot take on.
  17. My next Male Whippet will be Higgins However my next dog will be a Whippet bitch, I will have a list going, but not sure as yet.
  18. I have helped a number of dogs bred by our local byber of my breed, but to say I have to be responsible and take in over 100puppies, potentially, that they bred or I am not responsible I think is asking too much.
  19. Just noticed today my local Woolworths stocks the large bags of this. Interesting.
  20. Yes agreed. Unfortunately sometimes money talks in any area.
  21. Considering what that child has been through and survived her face looks amazingly good. What a complete wanker, I hope the person was sacked immediately and fined for being a moron! Poor little girl, how she survived an attack like that in the first place is amazing.
  22. THe only ones I have seen around these parts have been substantially larger than that??? One male was around 50kgs. He was delightful and solid brindle. He unfortunately died young as he had severe wobblers and was euthed. His sister was brindle and white and around 45kgs. I have also seen Burton Hounds down here which is apparently a type of pig dog as well.
  23. Everything crossed she is on the improve.
  24. I was very lucky mine was very happy to sit there. I had her in the centre of the house so she could see everything that was going on, but maybe Kongs stuffed with cream cheese or similar? Deer antlers, anything he likes to chew. Sorry to hear about the other knee and spine
