For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I noticed a fairly quick increase in territory marking, sniffing and tasting urine etc but no humping, peeing in the wrong spot ie inside or being obnoxious etc. Having said that my boy is quite soft normally. Yes muscle tone etc did increase fairly quickly, and testicles increased quickly. -
Heads Up More Breed Specific Legislation On The Table
OSoSwift replied to Steve's topic in General Dog Discussion
Me too please. -
She is devine. I would love one one day - too match my cats :) I had one stay at the kennels that the people had got as a young adult via Gumtree (they had other Cresties so knew what to expect) Luckily he ended up in the right place, but yes a few show up around the place unfortunately

Mine ar ethe same, errrmmmm you can come out now! Yep you, soon would be good??!!! Oh forget it, stay there!

I have seen an 86kg Rotti and it was not pretty. As you would imagine he didn't live to an old age, but even in middle age found basic everyday things difficult. The owners could not be convinced he was overweight and suffering.

Working in vet hospitals people tend to grossly overestimate weights of dogs when the percieve bigger is better and grossly underestimate when it is perceived smaller is more desirable. Heard hundreds of thousands of those! The 80kg GSD X Kelpie who when he was put on the scales was 26kgs comes to mind.

Um its something I choose not to add up or think about!!!! But yes a good idea to try and figure out costs. Things you will need to cover are Vaccinations Desexing Deworming Fleas Heartworm Food bedding bowls lead collar toys Good quality food - let your breeder be your guide. You do not have to buy the most expensive things however it is always wise to invest in decent collars and leads so they don't break. Obviously you wouldn't buy top of the range until they are fully grown. Other things to consider Pet insurance Crates/puppy pens Coats I find that I do like to buy good quality things so it can cost more initially but is quite often cheaper in the long run. You need a bit of money aside just incase puppy gets sick or injured, even if you ahve pet insurance you have to pay the bill as mentioned and there will be some sort of excess. I make my own collars and coats, however I do have different collars for different things soooooo yeh I am always buying different fabric etc. My cupboard is full of polar fleece I just had to have :)

OSoSwift replied to Badbee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Glad to hear she is going so well. Well done on perservering and looking for answers :) Yep I have had dogs it has gone straight through, and my dogs now do really well on it because it is high in protein and has little to no fat :) -
Maybe drill a very small hole in trunk of said tree, inject undiluted Roundup into it and uhoh the tree died, needs to be removed now :)

Should People Who Work 7 Hours A Day 5 Days A Week Buy A Puppy?
OSoSwift replied to Stitch's topic in General Dog Discussion
I see no issue with it. I have owned, raised and trained dogs to reasonably high levels working 5 days or more a week. The time spent with my dog was quality time. The persons commitment to their puppy/dog is the most important thing. How can people who work very little or not at all be expected to cover unforeseen vet bills??? Would they then get critised for not spending money on treating their dog????? You can't very often find owners who have that much money they don't need to work. So what would it be??? I think expecting people who work to never get a puppy is a tad over zealous, and totally unreasonable -
Vet, it is not worth mucking around with eyes.
-
Bloody hell, thats far too close for comfort - thanksfully no-one got hurt, but sheesh!

I believe PetPlan covers them while they are in Australia/New Zealand but not outside those countries.

Elbow And Hip Dysplasia In 5mth Old Gsd Male Puppy
OSoSwift replied to gsd_glenwood's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes I would separate them also. Two young full on dogs is a recipe for injury. -
Depends on if the adult dog has any idea about dog interaction, body language etc.

Taping Techniques For Dislocated Tails
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I changed the tape today to check all was well with the skin and tail tip. It has a reasonable lump there so hopefully that means it is calcifying/scarring up. The tail stayed straight with the tape off which is promising. It is now re taped and I will keep it that way for at least a few more weeks. Here's hoping it heals straight, and stays that way when the tape is removed. Otherwise he has tolerated it extremely well and isn't worried about his taped tail. -
Shit how awful, trying to save her puppy and keep her children from getting in the middle of it as well. She may well ahve severed something that lead to spurting blood but if they could block it then she would have been in a bad way - which it sounded like she was - but made it. Digs in cars with their windows well down or on the backs of vehicles always put me on high alert and worry me. Especially having the breed I do. I was walking one of my dogs and up ahead was a ute with a large dog that was not confined by anything. it was pacing around the back of the ute tray and its owner was in the front yard of the house speaking to someone. I had my kids with me on their bikes and my husband. Thankfully I only had the one dog but I have to say I was rather worried as it was a large strong dog and it had it's hackles up. Had it come off the ute we could have been im big trouble. I made my husband aware so he could help me if required and also make sure the kids were out of the way just in case.

Eeewwwwwww I know they live on us but i prefer the head in tha sand way of dealing with it :)

Agreed. If anything it made my Whippet bitch more reactive. She now barks etc when people turn up, before she barely raised her head.

Can Dogs Have Distilled Water?
OSoSwift replied to Queen Maeby's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have never drank any town/scheme water, totally disgusting. The town water down here is terrible and smells much like the indoor pool when you walk in. We have rain water and I have had it since birth. -
Vinnie No Longer Lives With Me
OSoSwift replied to apocalypsepwnie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh crap, I am so very sorry to hear that. Not nice for anyone in the family -
I do have to say it is fantastic that you are open to other opinions and then take on what is said. Years ago our Kelpie bitch decided after two weeks she wanted nothing to do with her pups - that was fun - not! My own bitch got to around 5 to 5 and a half weeks and then when nope, they are yours. I have known others to be merrily feeding after 8. Each one is different.
