I am glad you are feeling a little better dee, sometimes it can take a while to stop beating ourselves up to realise that we have made the best decision we could have. Still thinking of you very much and sending hugs your way
  2. Good on you for helping to find test for such an awful problem. It has had the best outcome and your little girl will go on to have a full life.
  3. It's good he is stable now. I had a dog diagnosed with end stage Cardiomyopathy at 8 and a half. She was on what your boy is and more! I didn't use any of the supplements you have mentioned as I didn't have the time, however I would suggest that you look around for a natropathic vet in your area, or even one that will do phone consults. I am sure you could get something in Australia. I am sure custome would be a nightmare from the US as most of the preparations are plant/seed based. Goodluck and I hope he stays stable for you.
  4. Makes you wonder how they know what a shaved nut sack feels like!!!!!!!!!!! I ma sure if I was showing my Whippet you would get the inevatable skinny dog comments!
  5. Maybe I should get one for the Rommi bum then - I think they are very classy!
  6. Sounds great Ellz Even though I am not a novice puppy owner, I love to get the folder with all the info and it makes sure you never have to guess on anything the info is right there. I have also filled up the remaining pages with Insurance certificates, training certificates and ribbons and any other info related to Rommi so it is all in one place and easy to find. I really would like a dog that needed a snood like the Americans need! I think they are very groovy!
  7. Rappie that is seriously wierd! I guess that weird things can happen in all species, goes to show! Imagine being the owner of an on heat desexed dog - you would be thinking you were going mad! Thank god I have never had it happen - just my luck now something will happen with the next one I have speyed!
  8. I actually really lilke working with a puppy that is doing little hops and bounces, especially if they are looking at me. It is much harder to put the bounce and enthusiasm back in than it is to take it out! I don't worry much about it and my dogs have all ended up really good, but nice and light in the fronts and very animated.
  9. Sounds like you are making progress, well done. I don't to worried about a puppy jumping around at my side looking for treats, they tend to calm down as they age a little and figure out what you are after. If she is persistantly jumping up onto your leg that is a bit different though, you do need to do something about that!
  10. She probably runs when she see's a tissue by now! Fair enough, I am very reluctant to do surgery, especially major surgery on an older dog unless absolutely necessary. Hope she never has to go through anything like that again. Your son sounds like a bit of a softy like my 6"4 husband!
  11. I am not suprised he was horrified! That is the stuff of nightmares! Not knowing what was going on, you would probably think they were poisened or something! Has he had an exploratory laparotomy done at all? I hope he never has to go through that again - poor guy I bet he aged a bit!
  12. So this would be ectopic surely. Obviously a retained ovary can produce all the normal hormones present in an entire dog, (thus enabling it to produce the secretions consistent with being in season or pregnant) but a speying involves removal of the uterus, so pregancy would have to be ectopic yes? Speying also involves removing two ovaries, so i would be thinking something had not been done correctly at all in that case! Did the bitch give birth vaginally or a ceasar? If vaginally I would be thinking that a horn of the uterus must have been left behind - very strange though!
  13. I would imagine it is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
  14. Wow that is a very sore looking leg! I hope you could give the owner an earful, but I guess they were probably not around! I would have felt like kicking it as well, but with one very sore leg it probably wouldn't have happened anyway!
  15. I had a bitch - entire though- that had phantom pregnancies that went from 9 to 15 weeks, she built a nest went through the whole birthing routine and had enough milk to feed an army! This bitch must have an ovary in there somewhere and it will cause all sorts of problems until it is removed.
  16. I would and have done so when a Boxer was up on it's back legs while try to grab my Dobe ( I had his front end off the ground and his head over my shoulder) who had no idea what was going on and wondered why I had grabbed him as I had. The boxer had all teeth bared going troppo and stood up on it's back legs and his his mouth about four inches from my face. I did kick him, but with the top of my foot not my toes which was enough to knock the wind out of him and get him to back off. I don't quite know what would have happened if I didn't, Bloody sap of an entire male Dobe certainly wasn't going to protect me!

RIP Jed, run long and free.
  18. Thanks, you don't find it an issue with changing blades and possibly have the clippers not aligned properly? It is quite easy to change blades on the Wahl KM2 and they snap on very easily. As long as you place the blade on the tounge correctly and then snap the blade down (you will have to then run the clippers to get the blade on properly) they will line up fine. When I was clipping I had 4 or more blades (of each size I used) and changed them as often as required, sometimes very often on warmer days and used very regular applications of a cool spray. When finished you then need to clean them thoroughly, spray with lubricant and store in a dry clean area ready for next time. I found The KM2 tended to heat up quicker in either speed setting than the older Wahl clippers that I used before them. Thanks all for the clarifications. Rommimum, the instructions on teh wahl clippers says that you have to leave the clipper running before you push the blade down into the lock position, wouldn't this be difficult as the blade as the inside white thing is moving. If the blade is getting hot, is it a sign that the clipper itself is overworking, so changing the actual blade won't really mean anything as the motor is still hot? No you do leave them running and they snap on quite easily. It sounds like they should break or something but they don't. Are your clippers running hot or are the blades running hot? If you are not sure I would contact Wahl and ask their opinion/send them back for a check up.
  19. I had one of those on my Dobe and it was great, but wore the fur off my Whippets neck fairly quickly.
  20. I have collars from http://www.2houndsdesign.com/ They do various designs and they are lined with nice soft satin on the inside. They are the only ones so far I have found that do not rub off my Whippets coat when left on all the time.
