Our Stafford with no hair between his toes had a seed go in between his toes and I knew nothing about it until a big red angry lump came up, opened it with a scaple and viola, one large seed. Same dog, had a suddenly evr swollen leg between hock and paw. Took him to the vets, got ab's painkilelrs. within a few days lump was in a spot, anotehr few days later noticed something small and sticking out of the skin just below his hock. Pulled it very slowly, 12 to 15mm long very skinny seed came out, leg was perfect within 12 hours. Last year our BC got a seed travelled via the side of his tooth and the swelling was under his jaw right in the middle. We could see the red swollen area and track mark in his mouth. Got drained, Ab's no seed found. A few months later, swelled up again, drained no seed found. A few weeeks later swelled up hugely, ended up having to remove the entire lump, seed was inside. Drains, seromas, moths of flushing and finally after 8 months it healed! Hate the bloody things!

Mine line up and fight to be first. Not so much because they love having their nails done but for the treat afterwards :)

Best First Aid For A Badly Cut Pad
OSoSwift replied to DesertDobes's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would keep bandaging it, generally wounds heal better in a moist environment, so I would clean it with Iodine and then put some manuka honey or aloe gel on it when its bandaged. When it is healed it will take a little while to toughen up again. Hope things improve for you :) -
I Want A Dog Food Like Advance Active Dry
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That is what I have found. He tolerates it and does okay on it and in he looks great and has fantastic muscle, but I think it must still irritate his gut as his poops are firm like the otehr 3, they are a bit hit and miss. If I cannot find anything simialr without Chicken I would keep him on it. There is a Duck and Kangaroo in the Natural balance but I am not willing to go to the effort required to get some and pay freight on it to find the duck goes straight through him like Turkey and Emu. They did okay on ProPlan Performance but within around two weeks they had crud all over their teeth. Generally their teeth are really good. I had been told others had had a similar issue. Anyone out there reading this, could we have a quality Kangaroo only dry food please with no other protein etc in it :) -
I Want A Dog Food Like Advance Active Dry
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes I agree, The previous food they were on apparently had good quality protein and has rated highly in pet food reviews but didn't seem to suit any of them at all that well. I know of two other people with 4 other dogs of two different breeds that had the same issues on the same food. That leads me to believe the protein isn't good quality. Thank you I will look up their website. I am 750kms from Perth so the shipping may be more, but we are used to that! I have contacted Canidae to see where I can purchase wholesale if possible. -

No worries at all :) They have all been so much better on the higher protein food I am loath to change them to a lower one again. -

So far it appears Chicken fat is okay but so far chicken, emu and Turkey have resulted in a very upset tummy. Cooked chicken is tolerated ie he doesn't get projectile squirts and vomiting but I think he still has some issues as he often has soft poops. I am not sure how he would go with duck but I am thinking that may have a similar result. A sall piece (2cm suare) of skinless, bonless chicken results in raging squirts for at least 24 hours. -
I used shade cloth on my cat run, the bonus is you can bury it nice and deep in sand and it won't rot off like the mesh will rust off if buried into sand. Shade cloth will rot in time as all stuff does but burying it into the ground seems to have no affects on speeding that up. We have lots of snakes and so far I have managed to avoid disaster, there have been some close calls. And yes it is cruel to take a snakes head off and leave it to die slowly. For some reason around here we seem to have a few with 3 snake bites in our area since the start of the year and 16 in WA so far from memory. I No Kirislin, Snake Catcher shared some stats etc last year and studies have shown that the snake has brain actvity for up to 20 minutes after being decapitated. So if a snake MUST be dispatched it should have immediate major head trauma not just take its head off.

I Want A Dog Food Like Advance Active Dry
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have been looking at the EI, I haven't recently looked into Canidae. The main thing I have found hard to get is a higher level of protein like the Advance Active they are currently on. I will look into Canidae again :) -
I am after a dry dog food that gives me similar results as Advance Active but without Chicken. It doesn't have to be grain free but I would like wheat free. I have fed them other dries and had issues with trying to keep weight on, regular issues with torn muscles, lacking muscle tone, holding weight and fitness. This dry food has stopped all those issues but I would prefer a food without chicken, duck, emu or turkey. Hit me with them :)

Ivory Coat - Does Anyone Feed It?
OSoSwift replied to Dave-o's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I do like dog food reviews, but also know that they will have a slight bias towards what they personally like. However it is really helpful for easy research into ingredients lists, protein etc etc. My dogs do not do well on a food that is highly reviewed on Pet food reviews. One dog did okay, but when switched off the food had better muscle and her coat went very dark again, I didn't relaise how light it become, one got better muscle, one stopped tearing Muscles, had MUCH better muscling, definition and fitness the last one got a MUCH nicer healthier coat, kept his weight on and has much better quality muscle and fitness. That particular food as had the same issues with a couple of high energy dogs I know, but there are LOTS of average pet dogs doing great on it. I currently feed one they are all doing really well on that doesn't get as high reviews. I am looking for one without any poultry though, but I still want the same results. -
I love snakes........when they are in the bush happily doing snakey things. I dislike them intensly when they come aound the house/dogs/kids! I KNOW I wouldn't/couldn't stand still if there was a snake under my feet. More than once I have had a close encounter and I am moving rapidly backwards for a number of seconds before my brain catches up to tell me why! Its instinct for me to remove myself quickly!

For Those With Allergic/food Intolerant Dogs.
OSoSwift replied to trinabean's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Some dogs can be allergic to the protein and fat. Sounds very interesting Trina, I am going to research done more. Glad he is having good poops - yes I am one to get excited over good poops - and he is gaining weight and do far doing well. -
I have an ozito multi tool grinder thingy. Love doing nails this way. That dremel looks great.

Agreed Gruflife.

There have been quite a few people bitten lately as well in WA, One today just out in one of our national parks. Time to look before you step!

The only time I would do a reserse #10 is for a medical reason! I have seen dogs clipped off with the grain and a #10 and they do get things like sunburn etc. You do not need to clip a lab with a 10 against the grain to clip them off, their coat is longer than that

Wa Woman Convicted Of Cruelty Was A Dog Foster Carer
OSoSwift replied to gapvic's topic in In The News
Trust me, the dog would not have gone to her had Melita had any idea that she would not be in the very best of care. Pathological liers are extremely good at what they do. Seems she has learnt from the master as her mother has placed young grey's into her care and is defending her. They tried everything to track her down. She said she had given her to someone else, then she had handed her into a pound and various other things. Each time they checked as much as was possible and found nothing. The dog was not in her care very long before there were issues. Melita will not stand back and allow anyone to screw her around. She did everything and still is. -

She had moved - more than once. GA did everything within their power to try and get their dog back and are still trying to find out exactly what happened to her. The dog was picked up and shortly after she moved. -
Very true, the dog could have been asleep adn not realised the meter reader was there until he heard a noise. BAsically the dog is dangerous, the owners have flouted the law repeatedly and now the dog will die for it, but realisitically I think that is the best outcome for this particular dog.
