Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change
OSoSwift replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh no, sending all our positive get well thoughts that we can muster for Grover. To Trisven and family lots of hugs for you guys. Lets hope his white cell count comes up and can start fighting whatever it is that is causing him to be so unwell. All paws and fingers crossed here. -
Hmm at times YES! I have 5 acres around the house, lots of trees, no stairs, the odd car, dog runs and the house. With Rommi I never worried, she had her path - all good. Enter Lewis! Lewis is a bit of a doofus and when he does zommies he watches Rommi. So far I have had him hook his back leg over a tomato picket and cartwheel and sommersault through the air, then stand up with a dead leg screaming and then collapsed in a heap. I have also had him hit a metal tubing Agility table at speed sommersault three times and sit there screaming with a dangly looking front leg. Fortunately he has been fine within 10 to 20 minutes! He has had near missed with many trees the dog runs, the horse tie up rail, me and has collieded with Rommi - although she pinned his ears back for that so he is a little more careful. He seems to now be looking a little where he is going and therefore we haven't had any collisions for a while, so fingers crossed it stays that way. The first incident happened the morning after he arrived - he was insured by 3pm. I know when he finally does injure himself it will be a big one. Having said all that I love to watch a whippet do zoomies - takes my breath away - or with Lewis it may be because I hold my breath.....who knows?

You could try soaking or painting his feet with betadine liquid, look funny and you would need to be careful about staining in the house, but that should work.
-
Hyper Keratinisation? It looks like he has an over growth of his pads. Does his nose have any dryness or cracking? I would be thinking a fungal component as well. Vets can quite often take a sticky tape impression or scrape of a bit of the pad material to have a look at. ETA does he have any skin problems like black heads or blocked hair folicles?
-
I am trying to understand exactly what you mean by furry? Is it like the pad feels furry as in all little bits are thickened and roughened?

Jodie's Turn For A Mysterious Lump
OSoSwift replied to Katdogs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you are as concerned as I am sure you are - and I would be too, I would have it removed and sent off. Yes you might send lots of money for a wart or an infected hair folicle, but really it is your choice how you spend your money and what you choose to spend it on when it come to you dog and her health. If you decided you want it removed go and ask to have it done. My dogs are now insured and when my dog recently sprained a toe it was that fat and sore I was worried it was broken. The vet said we could leave it a few days(in hindsight I would have known it was only a sprain) but that few days meant we would be into Christmas and there fore a week before she could get treatment for a broken toe if it turned out to be that. I got an xray ( without sedation as she is very good to handle) and knew that day is was only a minor problem. So yes having insurance is helpful, but that shouldn't determine how that vet deems suitable treatment for your dog -
Quick Question About Training In Drive
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have some videos on my utube channel from when I was doing drive building with Daisy. I think Shoemonster has some of Ed in the early stages too. Mine aren't particularly good, but it might give you an idea of what it looks like. I've been doing the distance course with Steve and it's fantastic I have seen two of Daisy, non of Ed but would love to see them My headache is down to a dull roar and the temp outside is 42 so sitting infront of the computer sounds good to me! -
I did try using it, but my girl who never ever does smelly farts, was letting go of gas that could peel paint off the walls. I gave up as I could not live with a dog inside that did that all day and night! Back onto previous diet and it was all good.

Glad to hear Boot is now on the road to recovery.

Quick Question About Training In Drive
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah there's a bit of a distance between you guys Daisy's not interested in doing things just because - she'd give you the doggy equivalent of the rude finger But she's very food driven so that makes it easy to motivate her I've used a clicker in the past but I'm far too unco to get it all going at the right time which is why I now just use the 'yes' marker Yes Rommi needs to see a reason for it and she is quite a pig! - Not something I was expecting from a Whippet and quite likely not on par with a Beagle. Lewis is very food motivated as well, but is very happy to get a love up and a pat as well. I did speed Rommi's weaving up using a ball on a rope thrown as she was leaving the last weave pole. Worked very well. I will try and research a little more, but not tonight as my head is wanting to explode, or at least it feels like it wants to! -
Quick Question About Training In Drive
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hmmm as much as seeing K9 force would be great, it is a little far away from me! I think Lewis would do whatever you asked just because you did! He is a bit of a galah! Rommi is going really well with clicker but I am always about learning and being open to new things -

Quick Question About Training In Drive
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Okay thanks Huski, the whole idea of drive training intruiges me, but I have no idea how to recognise it, or how to train it. ETA I have seen a couple of dogs training in drive posted on here, but haven't yet seen any on how to create it. -
Quick Question About Training In Drive
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nope that makes sense, thanks. Would you dog potentially go into to drive when training if you had there tug toy in plain sight and they knew when released was their reward? Sorry for the questions just trying to understand how you get a dog into drive! -
Quick Question About Training In Drive
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Out of interest - a dog clicker trained with food rewards or a ball thrown for them to chase and retrieve as a reward - Are they training in any sort of drive? -
Oh whoops - I stand corrected!!!!!!! A little while ago everyone had to have a Red, so I guess it goes in cycles Rare Silver - whatever next!

Yep got 3 rare Blue Staffords down here, one is desexed, the other two have been bought specifically for breeding. One bought for breeding had has skin problems from around 12 weeks, I haven't seen theri bitch. They have no idea and will not get all the health tesing done. I have already attempted to educate them regarding these things. I think they be regoing the pups as a unrego'd Staffy down here will get you around $500, a rego'd "rare" blue one will net around $1500. They paid $2500 for their great Blue male with crap skin! I will just have to educate those that may be looking at buying some of these ever so fantastically bred puppies. Frustrates the crap out of me.

Oh crap, just caught up with this, hope you get a diasgnosis and Grover gets better soon. It is so easy to blame ourselves, but Tris don't, we all know you would go to the ends of the earth for your dogs (and all your resues/fosters). Hope you hear some good news today. -

Sending lots of healing vibes to your girl. Her tummy probably hurts like hell and unless they are real food pigs it can take a little to get them back to wanting to eat. Hold in there, if DOL wishes could get her there she would be home right now! Good luck -
Have used them quite a lot in the past, but due to the difficulty in a consistant source down have have kind of given up! There is not a lot of different ingredients in them and I cannot remember about preservatives, but my Dobes and Staffy loved them. They also came in 2 X 1 Biscuits as well. ETA yes they are digestable, like a quite hard Biscuit

I feel your pain about the urine smell. I have recently discovered that my adored Whippets have tarnished their good reputation and been having a peeing competition in the house! I have never caught anyone in the act mind you! I have found wee stink in the carpet mats, the beanbag and the wall! Needless to say I got the carpet shampooer out and spent four hours doing that, the hessian backing still smelt so I got some spray stuff - have ordered Urine Off- and went to town! I still thought I could smell it so I also bought some Eucalyptus spray in a can, for two reasons 1 - to help hide/get rid of the smell and 2 to try and discourage the little shits from going there again! I will also liberally spray the top and bottom of the carpet mat with Urine off When I get it. It is an awful smell and I keep thinking people can smell it, but too polite to say and will go off thinking I am some weird woman who lets her animals pee inside! They are now tethered close to their bed unless my eyes are firmly on the little so and so's!
