  5. Hi Jo, We do have a members in WA if you want to PM me I can give you details, the Whippies would be very agile at covering the rubble piles. Cheers, Julie (friend of Teresa) That would be great I am 750kms from Perth though?????? A little out of the way, but I have always wanted to do something like that - My dream!
  6. A facebook page would be a great idea, then we can become fans/friends or whatever and help to keep his story going. I have shed many a tear over Leo and his story. Thank you to those who will be helping to keep Leo's story out there.
  7. I would love to do that - too far away from anyone here though Goodluck with your training.
  8. I would go the puppy definately. Socialisation is so very important and will make your life much easier if you have a dog that is well socialised around the situations you will encounter daily. I know of a couple of white Boxers who apart from colour were quite healthy???
  9. I have worked in vets with resident cats. Never had one injured or caught anything. People that knew us asked us to remove the cat which we did, usually a good roar from a cat agressive dog and they would scarper out of sight into the back room. They were never allowed in consults or the surgery, only the front room, passage, office and laundry and kitchen areas. Our black cat always slept with my Dobe anyway, especially in winter. I went to the vets not long ago with the two Whippets, person sitting on a waiting room chair, cat in arms, well they were up and out of there in about a second and all my dogs did was looked interested. They were waiting for wife to pay bill and leave. Umm people - CAT BOX. I have a cat box for each of my cats so if there is a fire or something all are safely contained. Even Red Dot has them cheap these days.
  10. I wouldn't, a few weeks on a yearly booster isn't much on the scheme of things. If it was a puppy shot a few weeks can make a difference, but not with a adult. I won't get my kids done even if they have a runny nose and the child health nurse tells me they will be fine. I leave it and do it a bit later.
  11. OMG I googled Amish puppy mills and OMG I wish I hadn't! I think letters to the pastor or whatever he is and go to a current affair show, making sure you make sure they understand that purebred ethical people do all the genetic testing etc. Sickening.
  12. Sick sick sick. Rip little doggies I hope KArma comes back to those who have done this - 10 fold............
  13. Kickatinalong make the pj's with legs. They may be interested in making a special one with a zip or velcro along the back? Will try and find the link? Found it http://www.kickatinalong.com.au/ It also says they are happy to do custom doggy pj's
  14. I was told when stacking my Dobe that the idea was to have the head at the height you would like, hold the collar up (not tight but firmly there) then allow the dog to drop it's chin slightly and stretch over the collar rather than pull the neck and head up. If their head is at the height then the chin is dropped over the collar the neck should look long and there should be a nice smooth arch. You are not pulling against the neck, the neck/throat is resting on the collar. If the head is pulled up it can end up looking bunchy around the neck, a stovepipe neck and an unhappy looking dog. I was never the worlds best show handler as I didn't do it too often and got nervous, but when I wasn't under pressure it seemed to work.
  15. Goodluck, I would love to get to see you all handling dogs again. Is a joy to watch. You will need the week off work, Phew!
  16. I got the beef and yes it looks like bits of hair. Not game to try the chicken if I will find claws. Think I will stick with what they normally have.
  17. I have also read this with interest and learnt some things along the way.
  18. saw pug x choc Lab pups advertised in the tradingpost..... $3500 each pug was the mum That is just nasty!
  19. I sat down with some paper and a pencil and started of with a basic horse rug shape and went from there! I now have slightly different patterns for different coats eg Polar fleece, waterproof, cooling coat. They are also customised to each of my dogs. AHs be worn a coat before? maybe you could use that as a starting point and change the bits you would like changed. I sew mine together at the front as I find velcro is too easy for an inquisitve Whippet to pull open (and chew!), but do have a belly/chest strap that velcros and don't have a problem with that.
  20. Pictures? I couldn't seem to find any, but maybe I am just a bit stupid tonight - is entirely possible!

  22. Heard lots of people say this was a good dry food so I bought a small bag to have a look. Wasn't that impressed myself. Mine has what appears to be nylon fibres in and through the pieces of food and even though they say on the packet the colour is natural it does look kinda fake to me. I am not convinced at all.
  23. Ahh okay my mum has some, she got it from the pharmacy I think.
  24. I would probably be a little bit unimpressed by their response, however at least you got one! I emailed 5 people when looking for a Whippet and got one reponse! I always worry I say too much in my first contact - usually email. I say who I am where I am from and what sort of property I have. I also say what ages my kids are and other dogs/cats. I tell them what sort of things I like to do with my dog e.g obedience. I also tell them what sort of time frame I am after - usually 1 to 2 years (I start searching early) I then ask any questions I have. Price, availability(length of waiting list) health screening required, possibly questions about coat. I guess I like to put it in the first contact so if they read something they like they can tell me first up if they would not sell a puppy to me. That way they do not waste their time and I do not waste mine.
