  1. He could have pulled a muscle or even tweeked a nerve in his back. I would definately get it checked though as I would be worried about a torn or snapped cruciate. One of my fears! If he is sore tomorrow, definately get him checked.
  2. Would love to see how Marnie is going and see her all grown up
  3. I would only be okay with it if the animals could live in a situation where they could exhibit normal rabbit behaviours, ie eating grass, have some room to run around in and dig in dirt. I would not agree at all if babies were routinely killed just to keep mum in lactation. Having said that it very well could be abused as other forms have been as you mentioned. IF they were humanly treated I have no problems, but I guess it most likely wouldn't happen.
  4. I'm coming to stay with the dogs and leaving hubby with the kids - heaven
  5. When I have my girls shed/grooming room (A bit away yet, but I have the plans in my head!) I am going to have a bath, lifted up on a frame and hot/cold water with a hose and a shower head attatched. That way the height is correct, I have hot and cold running water, the used water can be directed to the trees and it costs a lot less than a hydro, not to mention my back won't kill me anymore. Until then I will was them in the bath and my back will hurt!
  6. I made a dog bed out of a foam mattress. It is a 4 inch thick one, nice and firm and quite easy for the dogs to walk on. I cut it to size (Fits both) then made a cover out of polar fleece. I think it would be firm enough for her to be able to get on and off okay and also keep out any cold.
  7. My Dobe(entire/desexed) was not worth training or trialling for up to 12 weeks after a season as she always had phantoms. Once she was desexed it was great, never got bitchy or fluffy headed. Rommi (entire) is hopeless to train in season, she just forgets what she is doing and wanders off! Withinh a week or so she is fine though. She has had one season and hasn't had a phantom. I think she will be coming inot season shortly and she is a bit blonder at the moment. Lewis(entire) is great, always up and motivated. I haven't tried training him when Rommi is in season yet, so will be interesting to see what happens there. He is a big Lala all the time so I am sure it will not be much different!
  8. OH I would love to but sadly too far away - there are a few occasions when I wished I lived closer to Perth - I am sooooo jealous!
  9. Any where any time some people will find something to whine about, this morning the award for fist class PITA went to the owner of the dog that came roaring into the clinic without a leash and proceeded to lift it's leg on every vertical surface. Sign outside clearly states, all dogs on leads all cats in cages, however obviously this doesn't apply to this owner, I handed her a clinic leash, slip type, she says " I can't put that on him it will choke him do you have a proper collar" I say "no, this will have to do to get him into the consult room and back out to the car, it will only be a few minutes" She carried for a good 5 minutes about the suitability of the lead I supplied. Then whilst complaining allows him to continue to lift his leg on everything. Then she states he only does that because we didn't give her the first appointment of the day and he can smell other animals. If she is given the first appointment she invariably turns up late anyway. Some people are just stupid!!! I had similar but a small dog, no lead, proceeded to cock it's leg everywhere. I asked him to pick it up as there was a short wait. He took it outside (we were on a reasonably major road) then brings it back in for another round. So i growled at the dog when he did it again. He told me it is not fair you growled at him, he doesn't know he is not supposed to cock his leg inside. I replied no he doesn't, but you do, so wait outside, or pick him up. He elected to wait outside. I would have hated to smell his house since apparently his dog was a fully inside dog.
  10. Antivenom is also produced via horses. A very small amount of toxin is injected, then blood collected and the Antivenom made out of that, using the bodies defense from the small amount of toxin. This is why antivenoms of any sort, spider, snake etc have to be used with utmost caution in those humans allergic to horses. I think as long as the animals are treated well and allowed to perform normal typical animal behaviours then I do not see a problem with it.
  11. My Whippets are avid ball retrievers and will retrieve until they are plum exhausted! They are also food motivated and easy to training using treats. I did get Rommi's weaving faster by throwing a ball after she had weaved correctly.
  12. Woops Just looked up the standard, its red and tan, not Red Cloud apparently!! No you do have both Red or Red cloud is solid red, then you get red and tan or brown and tan. They also can come in Black and tan, black,Blue, Blue and tan, fawn or maybe a cream sort of colour. Generally in the show ring you see mainly Black and Red. Not many of the Bi-colours in show lines mainly in the working lines. I also really like Kelpies but am not into the the build of the bench Kelpie these days so would have a working line Kelpie. - yes I know others will disagree!
  13. Breeds I have seen that have very successful Are Border Collies Aussie Shepherds Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers Kelpies. Standard Poodles and Mini's Quite a few gundog breeds as well Oh and Lewis If I was getting a dog with dog sports in mind it would be a toss up between three; Border Collie, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and a Poodle.
  14. I must get myself some 2 X 4's again. I think our horse shop has them, but when I was just feeding them to one dog I didn't want a whole bag, now I have three I should get them again. I'd kinda forgotten about them.
  15. I think from reading about this a long time ago that their heart muscle is affected by the condition and also just because of the sheer size of the dog. They do not live long lives. I think also that she cannot exercise like a normal whippet and gets puffed out pretty quickly. Kirislin - would the odd American Whippet you see that is naturally super buff - but not like that of course! - be likely to carry that gene? I have seen a couple of photos of Whippets like that and thought, geez they must exercise non-stop, but the people have said no they exercise normally they are just naturally built like that?
  16. Ivy and I start training in just under two weeks and I've ordered a bag of these. Was given a sample bag last time I was in VIC and Ivy went mad over them. Prefect size and not messy on your hands. I'm sure she will be eating a few of these during the hour period so all natural is a MUST for us Hope they arrive in time .. I use them a lot and they will arrive in time! I think the longest to me has been 3 workings days or maybe four, not long nayway Enjoy!
  17. I'll have scones, but hold the Blue Cheese please -Yuk!
  18. Why did they close it? It was the only one I actually liked as when I was in it in year 12 I had my own room - even got my name on the prefects wooden shield thingy on the wall - must be famous . When I was in it in year 8 it was 10 to a dorm with no dividing walls! Have the numbers dropped a lot or do they just not make enough money to keep going? It's too late..............I FOUND SOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! ***sniffle sniffle cry cry****** wanders off to book an appointment at the hairdresser..........................
  19. Some of my best buddies were daybugs! I never complained and I think they enjoyed farm visits as well. I did have some good times - some naughty ones, but I had my horse there so that kept me sane.
  20. Hi Oh no I think I am the oldest!!!!!! *******Goes looking for grey hairs............................
  21. Oh I also liked the fact that one day when I had to take my old boy in, I was told his regular vet was unavailable and he would be seeing another one - now worries I know them both. When I got there my regular vet called me in - I was suprised, but she told me they had organsied it so she could see him as she had been dealing with him the whole time. That was great, no explaining all over again. I also like it when you take your animal to a different vet and they take some time, even if just a few minutes to read up on them just before they call you in. I hate having to go over everything again - or as in one instance very sick old cat, had been in 2 days before, couldn't find an obvious problem on bloods examination etc. He went down hill VERY quickly so I rang and booked an appoint to have him euthed first thing next morning. I walked in very upset, as you are, and had a vet wanting to examine him, I was like he is 15 has ongoing issues and now virtually comatose, I have booked him in for euthanasia - no I don't want you to check him over and run tests! When the vet looked back at the last visit, he went ah okay no worries I will get the injection. I was like arrgghh I booked him for euthanasia, if you had of looked prior to me getting in you would have been ready! Having said that after he was done they put him in a lovely calico bag with gold ribbon and a small bunch of flowers - so that was great.
  22. Hello fellow Swanleighan, when were you there? I am also a boarder I was there from 2000 - 2002 Did you know they are closing it as a boarding house next year? This is the last year they'll have boarders. God now i do feel old!!!!! I was there from 1987 to 1991! My last house was Hudleston, I was a prefect of year 8"s if only they had part of an idea about what we used to get up to!!!!!! I did hear they were closing it down, I wonder what they will do with it as I think a lot of the buildings are heritage listed??? I actually found out from my Stock Agent who is also a former Swanleighan! We are every where!!!! Oh a daybug, when were you there??? Maybe we had to put up with the day bugs? Nah it was a good school once we got a new headmster with an idea who cracked down on some people. I did hate boarding though - missed home all the time. I am so jealous you are all going to the classic, I haven't been for ages and I love going Good luck everyone and some give that gorgeous Chessie boy some big cuddles from me
  23. A receptionist the remembers me and my animals and when they are on tablets all the time, has some idea of what type - eg heart medication. My problem is I was a receptionist/vet nurse/ groomer over 14 years and have a very retentive memory for the above things and it completely shits me when others don't. The new receptionist took 12 months to remember who I was another 12 months to remember my animals names or breeds, and has only recently remembered Brutus is on heart medication! Brutus gets tablets monthly and check ups often! I guess it is hard when I think it is something so simple for them to remember, but maybe it isn't???!!!
