What Is Really In Those Dog Chews ?
OSoSwift replied to brightonrock's topic in General Dog Discussion
Got my rather large bag of goodies today. Needless to say I am my dogs best friends. The tendons and other chews I got are enormous and they will love them. Might even consider cutting them in half! Thanks PF for blowing up my credit card! ETA my dogs have been defeated by the mighty beef tendon. They have chewed for ages, there is still half left and they do not want to chew any more! -
No way can you do that to poor Pele - that is just criminal to treat a poor doggy that way! I am sure mine will wants theirs as soon as the wrapping comes off! ONly if they are good puppies though - nah bugger it I-squeaks everywhere!
-
Great to hear. I would imagine I may get the same report on mine, however he looks potty in his tummy because of fluid from his heart problem. At least you can relax now
-
Thank goodness he was okay. I think he won't be allowed off lead around there any time in the near future!

The stupid woman would also have no idea that Charlie has a medical problem and extra weight would be extremely detrimental to that condition. Stupid womand , we have a few Cavs down here and I am quite sick of looking at overweight and obese Cavs. And I love the comment about if she was a half decent breeder she would know he was a cross - good job!

Now you have their email send them everything you can find related to puppy farm raids, cases, why they should not be supported etc. They will very quickly wish they had contacted you! Oh and you may also educate them in the process - well probably not but why not ! The first one to send them would be Leo's Story I think.

I view any off lead or not behind fence a dog as a potential problem. One decent bodyslam from a Stafford and mine would be injured, one good bite from a dog of that size and build I could have a severly injured or dead dog. I own a Stafford who has always been really good so I am not worried about them. I do not like any breed of dog off lead or loose. I would also cross the street if out walking my dogs, if just myself then I wouldn't care too much. The worst a friened and I have ever been attacked was by two off lead chihuahua's at the beach, nasty little buggers!

Thanks for that - yep I think Cleans runs computers may have had a melt down after that order! They are going think Australians are completely addicted! I blame Ptolomy!

My Children Doing Obedience
OSoSwift replied to dezzyno.1's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Great to hear. Good on your kids instuctor for bringing an extra dog for them to handle. I used to 'lend' my girl out once she retired, she loved it and the people got to have a play as well. What a great thing for you kids to do, out and about in the fresh air with a doggy friend!. A really lovely story to read. Goodluck wishes to all of you in your canine pursuits. -
I am thinking if they are a mix of a ball and they sqeak you will have absolutely no chance getting them off my crew! Good way of ending up with lots of extra I-squeak balls though.
-
I often get them as well. Drives me nuts as well! There are so many idiots out there sometimes I feel like bashing my head off a brick wall!

I was always very sad that the working dog didn't come in funky little hearts - my friend pointed out it's target audience was farmers and they probably wouldn't be drawn towards feeding their working dogs heart shaped bikkies. I always felt ripped off! You can also get White n Lite, there is Complete(adult formula) and Puppy, and working dog (not in hearts ) Litres and kg's are different 20l of water will weight 20kgs, but 20 kgs of dog food will be more and also it isn't fluid, so lots of pockets of empty space. At least your dogs will be happy they have lots of tucker

If you think it could be the sun you could try using a leave in coat sunscreen, I have the Plush Puppy one and I like that one. There is other types as well Oh and good luck with your first show - have a great time

C5 Vaccination & Worming/fleas
OSoSwift replied to Sticks1977's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hello and congrats on your new baby. Our vet hospital has the same vaccination protocol. Ours uses a C4 vaccination at 6 to 8 weeks and a C4 & intranasal BB at 12 weeks, then a yearly booster. It depends on the brand of vaccine used as different companies can have different recommendations for their products. I would probably buy the 10 -25kg Flea spoton (advantage) and use that. I imagine he would not be over 25 kgs in 3 months? You could also leave it another couple of weeks until he is closer to 10 kgs before you use it. I however buy the biggest size and split it between my 3 so don't buy the individual sizes anyway. The cheapest Advocate spoton I have found (does heartworm, fleas and all worms except tapeworm and lots of other things like mange etc) is from here http://www.pets-megastore.com.au/index.php?cPath=165_6 Ends up way cheaper than to buy it from my vet. Hope that helps ETA I use Advocate I find it easier than remembering to do heaps of different things, the only extra I have to do it a tapewormer every 3 months. I also live on acerage and have had Foxes through here so I like tha fact it also controld sarcoptic mange mite. If your dog swims a lot you may need a more waterfast rpoduct like frontline, then you will need seperate heartworm tablets and dewormer. My WHippets are not water dogs so not a problem for me -
Newfoundland With Snake Bite
OSoSwift replied to rebeccafromtas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would also suggest getting her hips and spine looked at more closely. Yes dogs can have muscle weakness, but normally over time it does improve. I am also interested to know if she has had any spinal/hip xrays done? -
Sounds allergy based to me I would also consider getting a second opinion from a different vet. Not to say the first one isn't on the right track, but a fresh set of eyes and experience can't hurt. Skin scraping is not very expensive.

What about bike tyres, are they safe? That is what I was thinking maybe a motor bike tyre? I know they wear out to canvas, not sure if they have steel in them - OH would know but he is at work. My horse used to play with a traffic cone, but then it got a bit slashed so I removed it so he couldn't bite chunks out.

Brutus - he is a big boof head - full title Brutus Boofhead Beefcake, suits him, he is also no the sharpest tool in the shed Rommi - Rego's name Lil Seaurchin - Romi means Sea mist in welsh, added the extra M so it was easier to call. Lewis - came already named (we got him at 8 months) but I love it and it was one in the list I said I liked when he was a baby. It really suits him.

I hvae never seen it, what an interesting behaviour to watch. Our Dobe play stalked as well, waaayyy slower than the other movies. She would wait until she got about a metre and a half away, then explode leaping jumping and zooming, then would do it all over again. Loved it.

Do Relatively Unprotective Dogs 'step Up' If Necessary?
OSoSwift replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think very occasionally a dog no-one would of thought would guard does step up to the plate. I wouldn't however ever rely on them doing it. I think my Whippets would be the first to find a dark little corner to hide in whilst shaking if someone was threatening - that is where I would like them as well, one decent kick and they could be very badly injured. I think I would potentially be more dangerous than my dogs, anyone entered the house with intent to do harm to my dogs or kids and they'd have to kill me first! -
Just Attended My First Ever Obedience Class!
OSoSwift replied to dee lee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Aw thanks RnL. Your post brings one to my eye too! ;) I know I dont have to tell you what a completely different experience this is. I have had a dog that completely did my head in years ago - not aggression issues, but geez he was a pig! I just love that you get to experience the joys that dog ownership can bring. You deserve it. I hope hubby is realising just how good it can be to own a dog now as well. Big hugs to Honey. -
I will have to get mine posted down, can't wait! Just PM me details and I will do an internet transfer.
-
Thanks heaps for organising this Can't wait to get some i-squeaks!

RIP Olympus. Only here for a short time, but touched all you met. Run free big boy
