  1. It hasn't got bad extension in it's mouth also. True, but just look athe the topline, reach and drive and you can see how stretched it's muscles are - awesome
  2. I would also be wondering if there was discomfort if that would be counter productive?? The dog may associate discomfort and the work you are asking of it?
  3. Rommi came to me when I really needed her, she was meant to go to someone else, but it ended up they couldn't take her. She helped me to move on after a very hard hard time with lots of dark thoughts. She showed me how to enjoy myself and be happy and it really was all okay. She also guided me on training a much more sensitive dog than I was used to, she also made me work harder than I was used to for her attention. Lewis came to us fairly quickly as well. What has Lewis taught me? the joy at just being alive, that everthing is fun. He has really wormed his way into my heart and is really my shadow, he has taught me how to be a better trainer and to be much more patient, but also when to push just that little bit harder. He has also taught me that a ball and retrieve addicted Whippet is possible.
  4. What a fantastic idea. I think the thing I have seen most down here is people are quite happily buying and ordering puppies via small or large petshops and think these puppies come from someones home. They have no idea where most are sourced from. When you have it done/getting televised make sure you let us know. Lots and lots of good luck
  5. AH thanks for that Stormie. Due to the breed I have you feel everything. Such as his microchip -which is halfway down his shoulder. I didn't want bits of stuff left in my dog I could feel often. The vet told me it stayed, but I had read it dissolved, so good to hear it does. I have heard other have bref successfully after the implant so that s as much of a concern for me. And I guess the removing early doesn't matter just curious more than anything. I would have it removed if there was a hard little lump though. Thank you all - very helpful as always
  6. Hi Jed, hope today finds you healing well. Thinking of you often. I can't wait to hear the news your house is finished and you are cleared to go home, I know it will be a little way off yet. Sending Whippet kisses and cuddles to all of you
  7. RIP Ivan, run free with your friends at the rainbow bridge.
  8. Wow that's a really nice coat Thanks
  9. That was one word for it! I spent the morning getting a Whelping box from a friend (luckily she had the same breed) getting newspapaers, blankets, heating pads etc. I also took the bitch in for an ultrasound to make sure that was it. It was very hard as I was working full time as well. Only got it all happening due to very good friends and OH that did all the things I couldn't during the day. But it certainly can happen.
  10. As far as i know they are available for both, I have read their website, but was only really looking for the boys. There is a 1% chance of becoming permanently infertile. It has much less potential side effects than any of the heat supressing injections you can get for bitches.
  11. Yep under those rules I would have been busted as well. Even though she had been cleared by a vet as not pregnant.
  12. Be careful those two minute noodles can be very hot!!!!! And nope - not for me or my husband - two kids are very effective contraception
  13. Does the implant 'dissolve" over the time it is implanted or do you need to get it removed? Can you get it removed early if you need to? How many of you have had the implant and then used the dog at Stud successfully Any other info greatly appreciated I am not overly sold on it, but am considering using it of advice of my vet for a medical reason rather than contraceptive reason.
  14. Definately report it - no question. There are many great suggestions for you. I just want to say I am so sorry you and Sid had this happen - He is just so darn cute ! - and I cannot even begin to know the trauma you have been and are going through. I wish the best to all of you and of course your poor husband, it sounds like he really had to fight to save Sid, that will probably be with him forever. Lots of Whippet hugs and kisses from us to you all.
  15. I made my own then took them to the local embroidery place and picked out the picture I wanted, the font/size etc I wanted and they did it very quickly
  16. Like I said I wouldn't personally show my bitch after 4 weeks in whelp, however! My bitch was returned from the breeder after being x-rayed as being not pregnant. He was coming back into my state for the Dobe Champ show and would bring her back with him As she was entered (I thought it was just a wasted entry) We decided to show her even though she appeared to be having a Phantom. Why not?! she was entered I had to drive 750kms to pick her up. That was on the Saturday. We didn't show on the Sunday. On the Thursday morning I went to take her for a walk at 6am and found One very healthy little balck puppy, cleaned and well fed. As you can imagine I was quite shocked and a little stressed! She had flown interstate on the Friday, shown on the Saturday, driven 750kms home on the Sunday and given birth on the Thursday. She was fine and the baby was fine, I wasn't! I wouldn't do it by choice though!
  17. whippets are pretty popular too. Thats just because they are so good! Poetry in motion, good looking and sooky - perfect combination - oh and not much hair to drop is a good thing too
  18. That sounds fair as well though Lilli, they know that is a condition of purchase, you pay for collection and half the health tests. They get a half health testing expenses paid for. I guess also only people who are willing to have an entire breeding male will purchase one with those conditions as well. It would also depend on how many times they wanted to access the male. If they wanted 15 matings and no payment for me I might decided that is far too many. Where as one to 3 or four might not bother me too much. Each to their own, most important thing is it is sorted out well before the puppy is paid for or purchased and taken home.
  19. Totally off topic, but check out the extension in that horse!!!
  20. Okay Whippet (totally sold on them and will always have one!) Border Collie Min Poodle Greyhound GSP Lagotto Chinese Crested (Powderpuff) Rottweiler Anatolian Pug
  21. I wouldn't of paid full price for the pup until a contact was infront of me and I agreed. However if it was my dog. I would allow them to use the male for no cost if they paid for all health tests. Realistically that situation would have an advantage for me as I would then have a fully health tested dog and it didn't cost me a cent. The other way would be I would do all the health testing - which if I had the dog for breeding or potential stud use I would need to do it anyway. I would then charge the breeder the full amount for a normal stud fee for my breed.
  22. Does feel like you need to be an octopus in the beginning, but it is a mechanical skill that is a learned one. Give it time and you will be juggling things extremely well in no time! I figure if I can heel two dogs at the same time and have clicker and treats you'll get it in no time! Have loads of fun. I love the lightbulb moments - especially in baby puppies.
  23. What would happen if your bitch has whelped a litter and you have no surviving puppies after a few days to a week or so?? Still the 10 weeks post whelping rule as she has not been looking after babies until weaning. I wouldn't show my bitch after 4 weeks in whelp anyway, but my bitch was in the ring 9 weeks after whelping a singleton and looked like she hadn't even been looking after a baby.
  24. Mine are seperated. Either in the dog run , crate or tethered if in the house. I want 100% focus on the dog I am training, as that is what I expect from them
