I use one on my British. I attack it for as long as he will tolerate - which is WWAAYY longer than any other thing I have used. I personally wouldn't care if I created bald spots on him as he has so much damn hair. I have never come near it yet! Just bags and bags of fur. I live on a farm and furminate outside and then let it blow inot the paddocks and trees so the birdies can use it to line their nests

Nasty Tasting Stuff To Stop Licking Needed
OSoSwift replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You can get a dog specific product call wound guard. I would try something like that. I would not use tea tree or Eucalypts oils. When concentraed they can be very toxic -
This is what ours says, which to me says they cannot be registered full stop! HOwever a WA person that has breeds with unallowable colours may be to tell me more.

I think I am a little confused is the above dog one of his, or a cross breed or both??? Interesting looking dogs.

Very true Ozjen. Just been sitting on the lounge, two Whippets snuggled in - just perfect

I ONLY pat a puppy if I ask the owner - as well as making sure the kids do the same. I always ask to pat the puppy though, so if you saw me and were happy for me to pat, talk to and pick up your puppy I would. After a while you probably have to ask me to put the puppy down and rack off!

ANy dog with pale pigment can get those, sunbaking and light or white dogs is not a good mix. Being a Boxer does not really come into it.

My Friend had a white boxer with an eye patch, black pigment and brown eyes. He had no health problems caused by the fact he was white. If a person has all the available info regarding White Boxers, how can selling them a puppy to cover some cost be negligent? they know what they are in for. I have only ever seen onw HWite Boxer who had pinky coloured eyes. She had a bit of a screw loose, but as her owner did I didn't put it down to genetics. All the other ones I have known have had fully pigmented noses and eye rims, and brown eyes. How is that any different to numerous other breeds who can be White, with or without small patches of colour, but also have pigment and brown eyes?

I have used Rescue remedy with success - the human one from the pharmacist. Start giving it a couple of hours before with your last dose 10 minute prior to getting in the car. Then give her a dose to get home. She should grow out of it with time.

HOw exciting - Make sure you post lots of pictures when you get your kids home! Yep things are expensive in Oz. Especially when if you are like me, you buy way more than you actually need!

Lewis probably wouldn't care much, no-one has ever tried it, but anyone tries to hump Rommi and they might just lose an ear! Our desexed Stafford (was entire until he was 8) tried humping her when she was being a floozy and in standing season and she very nearly took his head off. With Lewis anywhere near however it was a whole nother story!!!!!!!

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks Sway, he does look ahem** well filled out! It has been recommended for Lewis as they believe he has a swollen prostate due to a rush of testosterone as Rommi is very close to coming into season. If it was a serious Prostate problem then I would desex but he is basically being Randy and is young and otherwise healthy. He has no obnoxious behaviours. They recommended the 12 month implant, I hope it doesn't last something silly like another 12 months! It is good to hear he was collected successfully afterwards. Did you do semen collections and get them checked for sperm or did you do it when his testicles etc had all come back to normal? -
I agree they "LOOK" terrible, but as I have never seen one in the flesh, never seen one used I am yet to pass a solid judgment. Also with the breed I have it is highly unlikely I would need them and I train from day dot how to walk on a normal collar. I for one, hate it when people have a dog that pulls so wack it in a harness. All they do it help it to pull harder. One day if or when I have a dog that needs more than I have, I may have to look at one with all the facts and then decide what I think. I have also seen many good things describing how and why they work and the action that they use to work. That has helped me not to bag something just on how it looks
-
No mine don't but if they did I would stop it. I think it is very rude dog behaviour, and unless of acourse a bitch is in season it is most likely dominence or pack order orientated. It is also a little human socially unacceptable. If I had a small dog that repeatadly humped a toy/pillow etc I would chastise that as well and remove the item.

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks SnT All the research I have read indicates the return to fertility etc is good. I am just loath to do things if I don't need to. He seems to be quite good over the last 4 or so days, so I will speak to the vet tomorrow and go from there I think. If he gets worse again I will do it. -

Those pictures jed......... I am amazed that you got any dogs and yourself out - what a couragous lady you are. How awful to see your home in that condition. -
Happy birthday Rubystar - have a great one

I think most people that have extremely strong opinions against prong collars have most likely never seen one in the flesh and never seen one in use.

Another Clicker Training Question
OSoSwift replied to Ravyk's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Some dogs have learned how to learn better and earlier than others. Our now aged Stafford is the loveliest guy, but not the sharpest tool in the shed. He is my husbands dog and I was not allowed to interfere with his training. He was always easy going, he learnt the basics. He also learnt he had to wait until the second time he got given a command (OH always said things to him twice at least!). He was never required to learn much. Fast forward three or so years and I decided to give training a go. I have never seen a more clueless dog. He had no idea how to offer. It took patience, time and lots more patience, he was noever going be an obedience star. Basically he had never really learned how to learn. It really doesn't matter what they are taught, it is the fact they learn how to learn. The earlier they do it the better it is down the track. Peggy may just find it harder, offering a new behaviour may be completely foreign to her. You need to figure out how to keep her confidence up, learn when you need to C/T so she is comfortable to keep trying. It is like someone is asking you to do things in a language you don't understand. Baby steps, baby steps. -
Oh Raven is exquisit. Brings back memories Getting up at 4am Washing Plaiting hooves Makeup - for the horse Tack up - warm up Grab a bite to eat if you have a spare minute Thems were the days. Although I was silly enough to have a Palomino with three long white socks and a rather large Blaze! Extra scrubbing for those socks, and the hoof black had to be perfect!

On the lounge with Whippets piled on top. Great blankets.

Another Clicker Training Question
OSoSwift replied to Ravyk's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Also remember that they are all so different and what works for one may not for the other. It really helps you to think outside the square to figure out what turns them on to learn and how to approach things in a way they follow. It is great great fun. You have some great info - enjoy -
It hasn't got bad extension in it's mouth also. True, but just look athe the topline, reach and drive and you can see how stretched it's muscles are - awesome :D *Nods wisely like she knows what you're talking about* I do! . And I agree, RnL. The extension and the top carriage of the horse is stunning. I love the elevation - superb Glad someone else appreciates it

Thanks again Stormie, I was thinking something like a small lump like hard plastic, so that is good to hear. I am thinking that this is the best way to go for Lewis, I just hate mucking aorund with their hormones and bits if there is no real reason. In this instance I do have a reason, but am still wary. -
Have The Means To Make A Doco On Puppy Farms
OSoSwift replied to melzawelza's topic in General Dog Discussion
A massive underbite is NOT a feature of the Shihtzu Breed standard - Wide, slightly undershot or level. Lips level. That is not a massive underbite, the teeth by my understanding are undershot, the the teeth still overlap each other and do not have a huge gap.
