  1. I have to amend a little ! At day 14 of Rommi's cycle he had started trying to mate her, not just a bit of a hump but yep trying. Needless to say I am glad he has no idea where to put it and they are now seperated again (they were only together when I was supervising). Even though I am assured he will not have the sperm to create babies, I don't want Rommi mated needlessly and have the potential to maybe introduce an infection. It also tells me even though I though she was standing around day 10 she wasn't really until day 14! Very much a tart at the moment! It cost me $250 which included a revisit, not a full consult as he had been seen before, and this was a follow on.
  2. I have bought nylon (I think) webbing from spotlight. The have a few different widths and some different colours, but mainly black
  3. I have seen dogs come into the vet hospital who look like their chains are on all the time, eg wear mark on neck and stained fur, tags attatched/name tag attatched, very rusty collar etc. I have seen roaming doigs with them on and I have spoken to people who have had their own dogs hung and they have died. We also get lots of working dogs down here who have a collar made out of chain, the stuff you buy from Bunnings. Some are attatched with U bolts, some are twitched with wire and some are welded on - yes welded on!
  4. Nobody commented on using them for training, just if they should be left on. Of course if you are actually training then no problem. They should come with a warning for those people who from some reason seem to not be able to think about possible consequences.
  5. Mine had the same thing and yes it was mixed together and only one needle. The Kennel cough bit lasts 12 months. Have a look at your Vacc card/certificate that should tell you what your dog has had.
  6. To leave a check chain on a dog when not being walked/trained is extremely irresposible. I have known of more than one dog lost to being choked to death by having a check chain left on them. I NEVER would leave one on, I don't use them, but years ago when I did, it was definately for training only.
  7. The vet that was on call had no phone issues and said he never recieved a call from this person. He is basically lying about trying to get help because he is sick. Also to only notice her suffering a day after????? Please! He didn't care, he is a vicious little snot and he should have a custodial sentence, but at least tripled.
  8. Fair enough but as a general rule we have many lovely people here and it is a great town. There is however some people who are scum, so the place is fine, just some residents that should be removed from the gene pool. The same as any other town.
  9. He will be sentenced on the 8th of July. My poor SIL was in court today (she works for centrecare and goes in with clients) She had to leave the room twice. She is such an animal lover and such a lovely soft person. She is very traumatised. She said he had an odd look on his face, not smug but not sad upset or angry either. I hope someone who knows where he is goes to visit him with a metal bar breaks his legs and then holds him under water just long enough so he thinks he is dying - maybe a few times. To think it happened here makes me sick. Don't get me wrong I have worked in the veterinary industry down here for many years and have seen some disgusting things that people have done to animals, so I know it can happen any where. But to brag about it is just sick. I hope the lawyer who defended him feels sick to the core and karma comes back to bite them on the bum.
  10. We have a vet available on call 24 hours a day, not to mention that they are known locally and if desperate you can contact a vet even if they are not on call. Not only that he injured the dog on a Sunday and noticed her "surffering on the monday afternoon and THEN decided to drown her??????? Ummm both the vets were open on monday! Oh and he snapped after a stressfu day at work??? Because he is the only one who has had a stressful day at work. I doubt he truely feels remorse but if he does - GOOD - i hope it eats him up inside, vile excuse for a human being. ETA two vets actually live on the premises of one hospital
  11. An Esperance man has pleaded guilty in Esperance Magistrates Court to kicking his dog and drowning it in an esky. The court heard that on May 31, Michael David Hastie, 26, "just snapped" after his seven-month old mixed-breed puppy dug up the reticulation in the yard of his Castletown home. Frustrated, he kicked the dog, fracturing her right hind leg and causing extensive internal bruising to her abdomen and palate. Hastie’s lawyer said his client attempted to call two veterinary clinics in Esperance, but it was a Sunday and he was unsuccessful. He said that the following afternoon, the dog was shaking and vomiting and, noticing her pain, Hastie placed her in an esky filled with water and secured the lid to "put it out of its misery". Hastie then went for a walk and when he returned, the dog had died. He buried her in his yard where she laid for 16 days until an Esperance Shire ranger investigated the incident. The prosecution said the magistrate should consider jailing Hastie, saying the case was a "serious incident of animal cruelty". The maximum penalty is a $50,000 fine and five years prison. But Hastie’s lawyer said the accused had never physically abused an animal before, and that his actions were the result of a stressful day at work. He said that Hastie had grown up around animals, including a dog, cat and rabbits, and was responsible for taking care of his parents’ 12-year-old German Sheppard when they went away. The court also heard that Hastie had liked his pet and had tried several ways to stop her from digging holes in his yard and chewing the reticulation, such as taking her for longer walks and tying her to a chain. Hastie admitted, through his lawyer, that he felt sick when he thought about what he had done. The case has been adjourned until December 8.
  12. Dog drowned in an esky: RSPCA Aja Styles September 7, 2010 - 9:27AM A man accused of breaking his dog's leg and drowning it in an esky of water will face Esperance Magistrate's Court today. Michael David Hastie, 26, of Castletown, faces one charge of animal cruelty after he allegedly kicked his dog, known as Imi, and submerged it in the esky, securing the lid, before going for a walk for a couple of hours. An RSPCA prosecutor will today allege that Mr Hastie was heard bragging about killing his dog and after speaking to a local ranger he admitted hurting Imi after the dog dug up the reticulation in the back garden.
  13. He has been found guilty but not sure of the sentence as yet. I don't know who he is personaly but I think I would like to! MAybe he might like a visitor???
  14. It has been 4 and a half weeks since his implant. Rommi came into seaon 8 days ago. Before her season (around 2 weeks) he was trying to have his way with her and forever had his nose in her bits. Yesterday I decided I would see what happened when I brought them together on lead and controlled of course to avoid a mating even though I was told after 4 weeks there would be no fertile matings. He thought her backend smelled good, then when ummm -hang on I was playing with my ball, tore off got his ball and started playing. Today he couldn't care less about her, but does still taste her wee. He has not attempted to mount her even when she has backed up to him and told him exactly what is on her mind, he just moves off and gets a toy - totally blows me away! His testicles have shrunk by about a third and are softer than they were originally.

  16. Bites from foxes get nasty very quickly. Fox mange would be the most annoying thing - advocate is the easiet thing for that. But the bites can fester in a really short period, any actual altercations and any tooth marks no matter how small they look need a trip to the vets. I will not allow my dogs to chase foxes for that reason
  17. I have had some degree of spey incontinence in all three of my desexed bitches. One was 8 months, one was 6and a half years and one was five years. Not sure I would like one desexed that young as I haven't had much luck as it is! My understanding was they were generally desexed around 8 weeks and went to their new homes at 10 weeks. I would be a little concerend they are going to new homes at 7 weeks, particularly if they have only been recently desexed. I I was desexing mine I would prefer the 8 and 10 week idea
  18. If you really think the people are listening to what you are saying regarding her fear etc and not to push her too far and if they are willing to contimue with the behaviourilst then I would say yes. Try to think of it from your head and what is best for her and your other dogs. Sometimes some things are just meant to be. And also - of course- stipulate she must come back to you if there are any problems
  19. Glad to hear you know what Whitney has. All our thoughts are with you as WHitney fights this disease. 8 is not very high at all! Goodness Whitney how to stress your mum out big time

  21. THe lady who does the Bowen on mine is not specifically trained on dogs but has done a fair bit on her own dog. There are no dog specific Bowen people down here. She charges me an amazingly small amount to work on my dogs - for which I am extremely grateful
  22. Great news! She looks rather puffed after the last few days!! Glad it all worked out and that you now have a good idea of the best way of grooming her.
  23. I was wondering out of interest what others have paid for the 12month Suprelorin implant???????
