Dr. Chris Brown On 7pm Project Tuesday Night...
OSoSwift replied to Fevah's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nearly every person I have spoken to say oh no they came from a "proper" breeder (not sure exactly what that means!) no they were from a private person and were an oops or planned cross bred litter. Not one person had even realised such establishments exist. The show was not on either of our regional channels, but geez I wish it was! Maybe then people would stop thinking of me as a weird dog lady and actually believe me! Dr Chris doesn't do much for me but if he even gets one person to listen then that has to be a good thing. If he does get behind it and push it as much as possible we may just have a chance of changing the public perception that the gardener helped create all those years ago. More Power to him I say. I just hope he doesn't drop the ball now! -
I opted out for a tattoo on my Dobe girl, she did have her DObe tattoo though that she got at 7 weeks and I din't really notice that. My cats are all done and tattoo'd I would opt out for my Whippets, green, blue or black that changes to blue or green in a fine small rose ear would be very yuk in my opinion. Rommi will be desexed at some point, but Lewis won't unless necessary so not a problem with him. Rommi no I wouldn't have one.

My Dobe would not go within 6 metres of a poo and wouldn't go near a wee unless she was cocking her leg over it. She would screw up her face and go sideways until out of the "germzone" Was a real bugger when showing and doing obedience. If a dog fouled the ring in obedience there was no way she would work. In the show ring she would swing her bum out to try and get away as much as possible.

Yes Ptolomy was quite good wasn't she

On lead in high risk areas is the only way you can keep away from them, but even that is not 100% foolproof as I have trodden on them and not known they were there until I did step on them.

LOVE the look on Beans face - "Down whats that, never heard anything so silly in my7 life! Uuummm......mum.....Why are you lying on the ground? mum??" Vadar's mum - good to hear your little baby puppy arrives soon. We will of course need lots of photos :D

Hmmmm interesting..... I am going to try this with mine. Not sure how they will go but I am curious! I am guessing they might both sit there because they think they are not allowed to have it until they are shown the food and told but we will see.

it is NEVER a good idea to give a puppy as a suprise gift - or any animal for that matter. If they are involved in the process and pick the puppy and you hand over the cash, fine. My Inlaws are in their 70's and still very active so 65 is not old.

Do Dog Flea Treatments Kill Cat Fleas
OSoSwift replied to Ellie's mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would use a more appropriate product for long term flea control. I use Advocate but there are a few around. I would also spray around your yard/house. -
I do Obedience and Agility with both of my Whippets. They are both very good at it and far more trainable than I thought. There are a few things to note however. They are very soft so you need to adjust your training to suit. Even a grumble to yourself will potentially put them off they are also very attunded to your emotions, so you get stressed they will pick up on it. Lewis would train until he dropped from exhaustion, as long as he gets a treat and some pats with a ball thrown occasionally he is in heaven. He will happily train every day and love every minute of it. Rommi will work to a point. She hates training every day and about every third is ideal for her. She will work to a point on any given day and too much repition or if she gets too tired and she will just stop. She does work very well, but will not go to the ends of the earth. I think they are a very sound breed and as mentioned before high speed crashed between dogs and running into objects at speed are most likely to cause injury. I have not had either of my dogs injure themselves through agility or jumping yet and I regard them as a breed that is not likjely to have joint or bone problems due to agility, jumping and training. I have had them run into very solid objects and go flying through the air screaming their heads off but have not had any stitch ups or broken bones so far. I am quite sure it will happen eventually. If you specifically wanted a Whippet for agility you would need to choose your puppy carefully to get the temperment most suited to agility and training. I have been told my male heels like a Border Collie and I agree he is very good. He is also very soft so one thing goes not quite right and he will potentially spit his chewy for the day. There is an exceptionally good Whippet with a huge amount of titles competeing in Queensland and the lady has just bought Lewis's sister with the view to doing FLyball, agility, jumpers, games and obedience with her.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
OSoSwift replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
That Boxer puppy face is just squishable and kissable. I love smooshing boxer lips! That is a good sized burn scar! She must be a little toughie. Seems her name was meant to be. She is looking lovely - I know nothing about Boxers, but she is a good looking little girl. Each day is one step closer to being back with your kids, be nice if it sped up a bit though wouldn't it! -
A Whippet sounds like it may fit in well. Mine are not full on, quite the opposite infact. I know of some people who have full on young Whippets so an older puppy or young adult may be better in that situation. Mine are not nervous at all and I haven't met any that are,so not sure about that. MIne are great with cats, I got Lewis at 8 months and he is great with the cats but was brought up with cats so if she would like an older Whippet that would be something to consider. They have no doggy smell and she dvery little. If I see that mine are losing a little coat I go over them with a ZoomGrooma nd that is that problem solved. My Whippets tend to like just about everyone they meet when out and about, you pat them, they will like you. My Whippets LOVE being around me and follow me everywhere, even into the toilet given half a chance. They are not aloof or stand offish at all. Any lap is a potential snuggle spot and bed. Goodluck with finding the perfect dog for your Aunt

What Is She!? And Whats Wrong With Her Skin?
OSoSwift replied to Megs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nope you would need four little dogs like her to even begin to count as one dog Good to hear she is otherwise healthy -
I have no idea what it is but I hope you get tickets

As around, go to shows and see if Flatcoats are being shown there. If there are then ask where thay are from and you will be able to say hello and she what their personality is like. Don't think you can only get a pup from WA a pup is only a plane flight away. I live in regional WA so my pups are flown in from Perth anyway. There is a lovely Flatcoat down here from SA I think and another from Perth.

Parasite Dosing: Worms, Fleas Etc
OSoSwift replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would give the flea product in this sort of senario, but would de-worm them after as they are likely to pick up fleas and worms in an environment like a boarding kennel. The Comfortis stops them bringing fleas home, and the Drontal after the visit knocks of any worms when they get home. I give mine only one preperation at a time as well. I use Advocate as well and this is tolerated very well by mine. -
Mine have it and do very well on it. My old Stafford has all sorts of food issues and this food suits him better than any others I have tried. I was not aware they had changed the ingredients but did see the other day when I was shopping the packaging had changed. When I get a new bag I will compare the bags. I have no issues with upset tummies or stinky and volumous poops. They have quite small poops and they go twice daily so I don't think it has a huge amount of fillers. Down here you have a choice of Advance or Science diet in the premium range and I believe this is every bit as good if not better than those.

Immune System Issues In Doberman Breed
OSoSwift replied to Doberwatch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am so sorry you lost your girl in such tragic circumstances. I lost my Dobe girls at almost 12 to old age and 8 and a half from DCM - too young. I wouldn't think that the Dobe is a breed predisposed to immune system problems, they can be a little predisposed to other issues but not in particular immune system ones. No-offence to the vets you have spoken to, but unless they are some sort of specialist they probably do not really have much of an idea. VHG is a very nasty disease and some dogs do succum and quickly. I do know of some that have survived. My Dobe had something very similar but not quite as nasty as a young dog, she did not seem to have any particular immune system issues and was very healthy until claimed by DCM. I hope when the time is right you will find the puppy of your dreams and the puppy will have a very healthy and full life. MAybe check out the Dobe thread and they can let you know of some breeders to help you with your search - best of luck -
Do Dogs And Other Animals Have Souls?
OSoSwift replied to Tapferhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
Definately this! I think that dogs have souls and they also have something much more pure than most humans. I think there are some awful human beings don't have one! I am not a religious person but I believe that dogs (and other animals) definately have something that surpasses this reality - call it soul or whatever else you like. -
The Paw House is owned by a DOLer PD888 - with some fancy music symbols either side that I can't do! Midland Army Surplus was the best place for Docs when I was at school And RS that is a very ordinary tiling job that your laundry had! Goodluck at the royal everyone

Unfortunately not all people are prepared to put the time in cleaning up until it is brought under control. Some dogs just get kicked outside until the end, no medication. Some do get dumped or euthed, the only one I have seen euthed myself was an older dog. It was very fit otherwise though and would have lived happily for quite a few more years I believe. But is was all too hard for the owner.

What Do Puppy Prices Make You Think Of Breeders?
OSoSwift replied to my_sibe_owns_me's topic in General Dog Discussion
I myself do like to know the price, after all I may or may not have the funds at athat time. I don't walk into a shop of any sort say yep i'll have that and find out the price last. I do not think asking for a price is a bad thing, but if that was the only thing then yes I would have a problem. If someone tells you about themselves, what sort of property they have, how many other animals/kids they have and what they would like the puppy for eg pet sow obedience etc and also asks price and when you are looking at having a litter then how can them asking the price be a bad thing?? To me it is being responsible. I would have a problem with someone trying to barter me down though, I think that is rude and I have seen it happen.
