It says Coolies on their listing and that is what they look like. Seems someone does not know about not doing such breedings which is a real shame. Also says that both girls are deaf. Hope they can find someone who understands their special needs.

Usually something that they don't normally get. something like small cubes of roast beef or chicken, sometimes cheese or fresh cooked cubes of liver. With some dogs who like everything you can use everything. Over time you may find there is something that will get her attention under huge distraction and something that will not, or will not hold it. Basic place to start is something small, chewy and easy to swallow and something they don't get every day. A friend of mine uses Chicken Nuggets as ther dog loves those but only gets them when training under high distraction

Should You Go To Obedience Even If You Find It Boring?
OSoSwift replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
No. I do go to a Dog club, but do my own thing. I train around the other dogs and train in short bursts. I swap dogs around and do bits here and there and I also use the equipment as I please. What it has most definately helped with is the training around other dogs. Rommi was at a reasonably high level training with me and when she was around 14 months I started taking her to Dog Club. For the first 6 weeks she was a twit who couldn't concentrate. Over time she vastly improved and now is excellent around other dogs. She needed to go to an environment with lots of other dogs and learn to work around them. What she didn't need to was to be bored silly for an hour ambling around the park. Lewis came to me at 8 months and due to being shown he did not get distracted around other dogs so was easier in that regard, but has still benefited from training around other dogs. He is breedist though, he only talks to Whippets! Having said all that I think people new to dog ownership can benefit and should at least go to basic training with their dog. I think it is also beneficial for their dog to learn around other dogs and learn to ignore them. -
Need Advice Re Coughing/choking Dog
OSoSwift replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would change to feeding her just the dry food if she doesn't choke with that and I would be moving her check up forward. -
Hmm I don't think so. Rommi will counter surf and scab any food items possible. That is a little of a breed characteristic, but very annoying. Other than that she is very very good. LEwis I got a bit older so cannot take credit for, he does have a couple of issues, tha main one whinging and yelling if he is crated and I am trying to do something with Rommi, and counter surfing. I think it is all subjective though, some people don't like some things that others let go. I also think that as each dog is an individual it is hard to have a dog that is 100% perfect. Also a dogs idea of being 100% good and ours can differ dramatically.

Petplan will pay a vet directly if it has been okayed by the vet and signed, there is a spot on the form for it. Being a receptionist in a vet hospital quite often people tell you if the insurance company has paid, or giving them the run around.

Yep it was honestly the biggest snake I have EVER seen and I haven't seen one that big since! I have had some big ones near the house, but this was down the farm and magnificent.

Baltimore Police Dog Training Video
OSoSwift replied to huski's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am still trying to figure out what he actually wanted the dog to do????? I heard a dog that was fearful, agitated and frightened. I am AMAZED that he was not bitten. If the dog was aggressive then I would imagine that if they did that and it was not muzzled the dog would have attacked/bitten. I spent most of my time trying to figure out what the dog was actually doing wrong and I still cannot figure it out. No I do not know the reason why he was doing that to the dog, however I cannot imagine a reason why that sort of non-training would be recommended or acceptable. If that is how they train their dogs I hope I am never around when one is off lead working as I imagine that that sort of "training"(used very loosely) would produce a rather random dog. I am shaking my head in disbelief! -
I second (or third???) Free shipping on I-Squeaks, and that is because I would like some more One of ours disappeared into the blue yonder in the ocean a few weeks ago. The problem is there are so many CR Addicts on here it is hard to pick just one. ALthough If I have to pick one I think Ptolomy did a fantastic job with the bulk I-squeak order. Decisions, decisions.

Dugites are a brown snake and grow very large! The biggest I have ever seen would have been over 6 foot long and muscley - it was as thick as my upper arm! Amazing to watch it moving - that was after I got over the heart attack of walking along and seeing it! You can get snake traps, they are a no kill trap and the problem is they get themselves in there but someone has to get them out! It would be best to either leave him inside or make a dog run covered in shadecloth, dug into the ground or put snake mesh around your fence. Having said that a friend of mine came home to two dogs locked inside and a very torn up tiger snake with crap all over the \ceiling. They still to this day have no idea how it got in the house. The two dogs luckily were not bitten. As a general rule Brown snakes just cruise through and only get het up if cornered. It is the Tigers that get feisty really quickly, they usually need very little excuse. Keep your yard free of any tin, wood piles etc, that will also help them to not want to stay. It is however a down side of living in Oz. That is why after 5 snakes this season and 3 in three days right near the house/dog runs I was going to buy a one-way ticket to New Zealand! Oh and this is a brown snake, was around a 5 footer.

Just be aware that Avocado's are not good for dogs and it is not recommended that they eat it. Mine get something in the morning, either a bone, large crunchy dog treat, dried roo flap, tendon etc. Training treats sometime during the day (fourlegs ATM) Dry foo and either, meat, sardines, yoghurt, cottage cheese, sometimes dog roll etc for tea. And whatever they manage to counter surf and steal! buggers!

Would You Breed A Dog With Food Aggression?
OSoSwift replied to Jimmay's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sounds like the dog has a handler problem. I would say there is a bit of shakey ground surrounding who is the leader in their relationship. My Dobes would potentially try to kill each other over something they both wanted (and did try once until they were seperated for good) but they never showed any aggression towards myself or another human in regard to food, toys or belongings. -
THat photos of the babies - just divine. Gorgeous creatures.

Would You Breed A Dog With Food Aggression?
OSoSwift replied to Jimmay's topic in General Dog Discussion
Would depend, if it was towards humans, I would eer on the side of not, but as mentioned it can be brought about by careless handling. If it was my Whippets I would probably not as that sort of temperment is very unlikely, if it was my Dobes and was aggression towards other dogs it wouldn't worry me. If it was towards people and I had owned the dog since it was young, then most definately not. -
I would be thinking she may be in pain of some sort as well. Definately get her checked out - sooner rather than later.
-
All of what has been suggested, but also make sure you recall, reward, then touch collar reward. I have seen many dogs who comeup to people but they cannot get their hands on them. Never shoot your hands out and grab, train for touching her collar every day. Call her (inside or out) reward then let her go.

Family's Beloved Rottweiler Wakes Up After Being Put To Sleep With
OSoSwift replied to Burkes's topic in In The News
As ReadySetGo said a monumental screw up. A dogs should not leave the room until it's heart has stopped. I feel very sorry for those poor owners, now they have to go through such anguish twice. Not only that seeing a dog that was supposed to be euthed and was standing there alive and hungry - awful. -
What I have gathered so far is as follows: 1) when dogs are on a natural, raw diet fleas and mosquitos are not interested in them so there is no need for flea or heartworm treatments. 2) if dogs are not subjected to chemical intervention, their bodies are able to develop the ability to deal with worms on their own 3) vaccinations do nothing except poison your dog. 4) pups over 12 weeks of age are safe from Parvo These are all a load of rubbish! My questions to breeders are: 1) Do you have to vaccinate, worm and flea your pups prior to selling as a condition of being a registered breeder? YEs it is part of code of ethics and I would never not vaccinate a puppy or treat it for worms. Fleas would be if required. We don't have ticks 2) Would you raise pups on nothing but a raw diet and sell them with the recommendation that they are fed nothing but raw and don't receive any vaccinations, worm or flea treatment? Puppies would recieve a mix of good quality dry and raw. I would never recommend no vacc's, not be de-wormed. Fleas as necessary 3) Do you educate your puppy buyers on the dangers of processed pet food? I'd educate them on all types of food and definately the types of dry food to avoid. 4) Do you think puppies need to have worm and flea treatments as babies and do you think they should be vaccinated? Absolutely 100% and without doubt My questions to puppy buyers are: 1) Would you buy a puppy from a breeder who hasn't given the pups any vaccinations, worm or flea treatments? No 2) Would you be happy with a pup that has gone from mother's milk to raw diet? I would not have a problem, but it would depend on the breed and the diet they have been fed. I have seen some downright appaling supposedly healthy raw diets, and the worst was in a great Dane puppy. 3) Would you be prepared to continue for the rest of the dog's life with no vaccinations and feeding a raw diet? No as at this point in my life feeding raw only is not appropriate for me. While I do not agree with over vaccination, I do not agree with no vaccinations. I have nursed puppies and dogs dying from Parvo and affected by Hepatitis.

If it was me and I thought the dog would be quite upset going in to kennels I would go the option of her staying one night by herself. Do you know of anyone that can stay overnight at your house as a house sitter??? I have a house sitter move in, as with all mine and one who needs daily medication and monitoring I find it a lot less stressful for all of us.

I am going to hell in a handbasket! Shooting from age 10 Spotlight person when shooting roo's, rabbits and foxes since about the same Hunt Rabbit with the Whippets Raise and breed Beef Cattle AND Fill my freezer with home grown beef! One small concession .........I rarely wear a skirt! I do however tag and band my own calves, I pull calves that are stuck and one of the best vets I have had out for creature large and small is a woman! I love ferrets but have never owned one. I would like someone to come ferreing out her as there are thousands of them and I do not like to use poison as I have seen baby birds eat the poisoned grain. Anyone near me (which I doubt) that wants to go ferreting is more than welcome. Just not at this time of year as we have lots of snakes, message me! Thankyou to all the knowledgable people who have contributed I have found it very interesting between the crap and hope you have a great time ferreting!
