For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A quick update. Two and a half months on and Lewis has not had any weight issues, he is still a sook as per normal. The most noticable thing is his testicles haven't shrunk by one third, I think they have shrunk to one third the size they were. From large grapes to mere Sultana grapes! They are so small when it is cold you would think he was desexed. I do not think he could be shown as his testicles are very small and reasonably soft. Not "normal" as required in the standard. Oh and after I thought he was being oh so well behaved re Rommi being in season, he was just biding his time. When she was properly in standing season he was happily trying to oblige! Will see what her next season brings! Other than the testicle size there are no noticable changes to personality or weight. -
Didn't read too far as it is a complete load of rubbish. If he had done any research he will find that any positive clicker trainer will also say that you can click and punish, so you click when the dog does the wrong thing then give the adversive. The clicker is just a little box that clicks, not sure how it manages to do all the things he says. This bit is just totally insane. Me thinks he tried it, it didn't work necause he didn't know the little box is just a box that makes noise so therefore couldn't get any dogs to listen to him. Mine are clicker trained, but also know leave it, they do get growled at if needed and I am not into disection-how can he even come up with this rubbish!

Thought I would check the mail box when I went to training earlier. There is a card fro a parcel and it is an international parcel- woohoo my CR parcel is here!

We have heaps of mozzies and people have issues with Ross River virus etc as well. I won't risk my dogs getting heartworm.

All very quiet here in the mornings, until they know you are awake - then it is on for young and old. Usually starts with a cold nose up the back of your shorty pj's, a bit of roo-rooing, lots of jumping around and the off at a million miles an hour for toilets. Rommi then cruises along as she is all grown up and mature now. Lewis on the other hand finds the closest thing that can double as a toy and then runs doing flat out zoomies with a mad look on his face. This will continue for up to 20 minutes.
-
I wouldn't have done it when they were babies, but they are a bit better behaved these days!

Hopefully my CR package arrives soon as well. Decided to get in early and make the Whips Christmas collars early this year. This is how they turned out and I am quite pleased with them

Hmm might have to get one of Erny's super dooper ones as well me thinks

Sorry no help on the skin conditions, I have never had any with my guys. Glad you got an answer Kaffy - not so good it is double, that is a huge jump. Mine went up $40 each per year and I thought that was pushing it!

lol, sounds familiar - When we just had the cocker he didn't really come on the sofa....it all went to pot when we got our greyhound, I think it's official cruelty if you refuse a pointy dog access to a sofa I absolutely agree with that. Not to mention the 4 inch thick mattresses they have as well! Never have too mnay soft resting places for pointy dogs.

I have used Black dog pouches for years and been very happy with them - until my recent one! Nothing worked, it was very hard to get to stay open and when I did open it it wasn't smooth at all like my other two. I went to pull the bag open one day and I have no idea what I did, but now the hinge won't stay ope at all. Bit annoying since it was the fith day I had used it. I am going to look for another one, but I buy yoga pants with pockets in dark colours and 3/4 pants with pockets. I also have some vests that are made of heavy T-shirt material and are not too hot. I do need another treat pouch though.

Hi Simple Your boy looks devine. Such a cutie. And I like his name as well. My dogs have never been allowed on furniture.........................then we got the WHippets. In the beginning Rommi was only allowed on when invited. Then she kinda got up whenever she felt like it. Then we got Lewis....now we have two thet get up on the lounge whenever they feel like it! OH was the one who did not mind the dogs inside but they were not allowed on the lounge. He was also the first one to break the rules. Ours is leather and the dogs don't shed much. They are not left inside when I am out so have had no chewing issues.

Where abouts are you in southern WA? your local vet should know the incidence of it in your local area.

The best news I am so pleased for you. Hope he wil be home soon giving you hugs.

Dogs go off at other dogs because the other dog is getting close to their territory. Some dogs don't care, many do. My dogs walk out in front at the end of the lead but not pulling. I don't really care where they walk as long as they don't pull. If we are doing obedience work then they are in heel position on my left. I personally don't think it is a good idea to walk a dog in heel position all the time on a walk. To me heel time is very focused and they are working and I expect all of their attention on me. When we are out walking they can look all around, sniff things and have a bit of a relax. There is no way I would expect them to maintain heeling position for the hour I walk.

AT this time of year when their venom is quite concentrated it can be as short as 10 minutes. The time depends on the concentration of the venom, where the dog was bitten and how much venom was injected by the snake. Quite often a first strike will be a dry bite as a warning, but if say a dog is noseing, sniffing or wacking a snake it can get annoyed and give a full dose. Vomiting and collapse are usually the first signs of a brown snake, with the tigers down here wobbling and ataxia along with drooling are quite often the first signs of tiger snakes. I really hope your boy pulls through for you. We have all paws and fingers crossed for you and sending lots of Whippet hugs your way. Oh and I have also driven much more quickly that I should have to the vets before, but when you have a dog in that state your only thought is to get them there as soon as possible. We have had two days of 35 & 36 and I have already seen 5 snakes close to the house so I am on high alert and expect to see them out as well. Just read your update, hopefully he will stabilise and inprove overnight and you can figure out what he is allergic to. Anaphylactic reactions are very scary. My friend had a Boxer who went into Anaphylaxis on two seperate occasions from a bee sting. I am not sure if there was bleeding from the lungs, but the collapse was very rapid.

why on earth do u assume only faulty pups are born of parents belonging to unethical breeders? ethical breeders do not have a magic radar that zero's in and prevents them purchasing any but the perfect genetic makup? it aint possible. there are thousands of deletrious genes yet to be dna markered. bad luck can happen to EVERYONE. n anyone YEP GIVE UP. YES. have it your way IF A FAULTY PUP IS BORN IT can only mean the breeder be struck from the responsible ethical ranks... would fix the problem faster. simply stike off every breeder who a defective pup came from. that would even eliminate the puppy farmers. remember the shitzu x maltese with luxating patella, heart murmer and think it was 3 hernia's, robert zammit showed on tv once. the world is not black and white bad things do happen to good people. bad things happening to them does not prove they are bad people, sometimes i find myself wondering if the mentality of the dark ages and burning, drowning and elimination of witches is just the same just new names believe it or not bad people ARE in the minority although to read this forum most could be excused for not realising that Wow. I think you need to calm down a bit. No one said that having one 'faulty' pup makes someone a bad person or a byb. I'm pretty sure the OP was just trying to make the point that not everyone with a prefix is a good breeder, which is a perfectly valid point. Sure, a good breeder can occasionally produce a 'bad' puppy. But a good breeder would do something about it, like refund a pup that has a health problem. There are plenty of breeders who consistently produce bad quality pups and don't care as long as they have the money in their pocket. That is what this thread is about. Thank you, I did not say that having a faulty pup makes you unethical. Many things go inot making you ethical or unethical. The main thing is how you react you having a puppy that you produced being diagnosed with a problem. It is hard for the average Jo Public to know quite often how to work if someone is ethical or not and sometimes they don't until there is a problem. And yes people can have consequences to breaching the ANKC's code of ethics. My understanding is at this point WA breeders can still sell puppies without papers.

Simple pop in and say hi. We don't mind if your boy hasn't arrived yet and we LOVE puppy pictures (and those of ponies and other pets ) So hope to see you in there.

If he is 13 weeks then he is old enough for his second (and last depending on regime and brand of vaccine used) I would get it done now. There is a risk with taking puppies to puppy preschool however the benefits of socialisation and training they recieve outweighs the risk IF it is ran properly and correct procedures are carried out for disease prevention.
-
He does need another vaccination and the reason being is all puppues have different levels of immunity that run out at different times. So he may still have maternal antibodies, he may not. If he had maternal antibodies when he was vaccinated then the first vaccine wouldn't have imparted any immunity. 5 weeks is very early for him to have had his first vaccination. Puppy pre school requires them to be up to date for their age. Having said that it should be held in an environment that is easy to disinfect and clean to reduce the risk of them coming in contact with disease. This usually means it is heald indoors on a surface that can be effectivly cleaned with a product that kills PArvo (very important) and other viruses.

Living in the north of WA is extremely hot and dry. Mid to high forties for days are not unheard of. I am quite sure that if there are many in the area there is for a reason! I think it is a great idea and one - fortunately- I will not need! A week of 40's to 44's was enough for me and that thankfully doesn't happen too often. I would love to see photos of your new boy and also of him enjoying his creature comforts. Sorry about the loss of your girl.
