  1. I am quite sure Jed that DOL being the wonderful place it is will do what they can to make sure your dogs can be looked after until you can have them back. Nobody wants to see your dogs having to be rehomed. I am still trying to win lotto!
  2. Walking on lead at your puppy's age is purely for training and getting him used to walking on a lead. Over exercise can cause problems with joints. It is basically like asking a 3 year old to walk 5 kms for example if you take him for large walks. They get enough exercise running around and playing so getting out and walking on a lead are not needed for physical exercise . Once he has had all of his vaccinations getting him out and about is important for socialisation and training. A say 12 to 14 week old puppy would only need to walk passed 2 houses max in the beginning as it is a training exercise and one that is worked up to. Ie two steps of nice walking and no pulling is perfectly fine for a beginning. You then work it up a few more steps then more and so on. You should not ask your dog to go for long walks/runs until they are around 12 months old. I am assuming from your name you have an Aust Cattle dog???? Training and training tricks for 10 or so minutes will wear him out more than a 15 minute walk.
  3. I can sympathise with the cage rest. My Whippet is on 6 weeks crate /dog run rest at the moment. I do not have the young BC factor though! I was hoping it wasn't something like this I am sorry you are having to go through with it. Hopefully he improves after the rest period.
  4. Very interesting markings and colours I had no idea they occured in the pointer. That Dally is very interesting as well
  5. My dogs already have theirs! A certain little clean run order that turned up not long ago! I give my SIL dog's some treats and dog bikkies, bought ones but find good ones without crap. My dogs also get little treats as well go out for part of the day to the inlaws and they stay at home with their new toys and treats to chew on.
  6. I think that has been mentioned on here before and for the life of me I cannot remember the persons name. Some smart DOLer will though
  7. I would ring your vet and get a product and dose you can use on your dog. Then yep it can be bought from a chemist. My old Stafford quite often used to wander out to the toilet and come back covered in hives and welts. We would give him antihistamines and a dose of Pred at the same time. He had allergic skin disease so I am sure you dog wouldn't need the Pred. It is surreal to have a dog fine and smooth and shiney, then have them puffy, bumpy and covered in lumps 5 minutes later! Hope your dog feels better very soon.
  8. Nope not much fun, but on the scheme of things it could have been MUCH worse. I was actually quite happy she was insured yesterday when they said it was her knee and they needed to check her cruciate properly! Now I just have to put up with getting "the look" on a regualr daily basis for the next little while! Was wondering if you were keeping a baby as well Emery??? so so cute!
  9. I have always though Tilly was very striking and I am not suprised people comment on her good looks. I do love baby Quinn, her markings are unusual
  10. I have been thinking about this thread and I have to say before my Rotti we had a family kelpie. Lovely girl. I was horse obsessed, but had no horse. That little girl used to put up with me putting bandages on her legs - i made out of soft stretchy material- and looking back she was pretty well trained! She walked , trotted and cantered on command, sat and stood on command - we didn't do drop as horses don't drop! I went out the back of dads shed and found tyres, bits of wood, drums and made a "showjumping" course. All her "showjumping" was done off lead because horses are not led around! Some where bloody high! She was good too! She was ever so fit and so well behaved and slept on my bed. When I went away to boarding school mum was always complaining she was getting fat. I spent hours outside with that dog every day training her and making sure she was fit. She lived to 16 and was euthed when I was 22. If I could get a dog like her again I would.
  11. Got Vetbed from them as well, brilliant customer service, very friendly and called within the day when I ordered a pattern that it was then discovered they didn't quite have enough in stock. Was posted quickly and arrived very quickly. Will go back when I need some new Vetbed in the near future Only good things to say from me
  12. Absolutely gorgeous!!! I want to kiss and smooch them and smell their puppy breath!
  13. DA - he is your puppy who you love and look after very well. If you are not interested in showing then I personally wouldn't be worried about what anyone's opinion is about your boy. If you push to get the nitty gritty I can tell you from experience it will hurt because in your eyes he is perfect - which of course he is! I have asked the questions and been given the answers about a previous dog of mine I did show and it is still upsetting even when they are right. So love him, enjoy him - but I would leave it at that. BTW He is cute to me
  14. Seems she injured her toe and her knee! Toe is nearly better, knee isn't. Her cruciate is intact though. 6 weeks crate and dog run rest, then 4 weeks working up to normal exercise. Fingers crossed it is all normal after that!
  15. Pamela is a stunner that is for sure! Rommi is home and giving me stink eye for being nasty and leaving her at the vets where they stuck needles in her!
  16. I do not know much about Boxers, but they are a handsome couple. I especially like the picture of your boy with a baby puppy laying on his front legs. Very cute.
  17. Oh dear MAson you do not look impressed at all! It is for the best, happy ear healing vibes to you young man! I am thinking either the UK, or New Zealand are looking good about now
  18. Hmm well I haven't seen or been in snow so I am totally not sure about that part of it! Did the dog bitten by the adder survive okay??? Surely a rare snake bite has to be better than seeing 8 snakes already around my house - feisty tiger snakes, my FIL has seen 16 and they have killed two of my chooks????? Oh and my SIL had senna round 20 at her place. Just got a call back from the vet. Xrays show no fractures in toe or knee, cruciate is still intact, however there is pain on manipulation of the knee enough to get her to try and sit up and squeek while under sedation!! 6 weeks strict rest, then 2 more weeks in the dog yard which OH has started to build and will be finisheing when his holidays start in a few days! We miss out on out last club trial of the year and I can't remember but she hs missed one other from being in season adn I think another with a different sore toe! I think maybe she just wants to be a lounge lizard. I am just so thankful the cruciate is intact!
  19. What an amazing house and property - I am quite suprised you moved from that to living in Perth I think I might have to swap you, lots of land, but no snakes!
  20. Great to hear Louis didn't vomit in your new car  Love that photo, what a wonderful property you had.
  21. Thank you I am quite hoping I get to pay out lots of money to get told it isn't serious and just needs a little more rest!
  22. What a gorgeous little girl you have there. Yes it would be hard to have to put up with people's negavtive comments and you are doing a great job still going and training and having a great time with your girl. I really hope you find out the cause of her hair loss isssues, but the hair she does have looks nice and healthy. Keep us updated as I was wondering about her then came across this thread
