I have heard it before and I think it is dubious at best. Everything seems to go in the neck. Wonder why microchips are singled out. yep it turned up in a tumour, well that could be from vaccination or any of the other things that get jabbed into the neck.

Under Cover Pet Shop Assistant On Today Tonight?
OSoSwift replied to Shmurps's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry but that is rubbish. I have three dogs who all get to eat by themselves. I have had Dobes and a Jack Russell and the JR annoyed the complete crap out of my Dobe who, god bless her, didn't eat it. That generalisation is rubbish. I am actually quite amazed that someone who is supposed to know quite a bit about dogs can come out with something quite like that. Not all people with large dogs are idiots, not all people with young kids are idiots and not all people who live in a particular suburb or postcode are idiots. No wonder people think we are snobs. -
Ulster Kennels was owned by Dan Oconnor & now his daughter runs the place (if still the case). Dan runs the Albany dog club & they use to breed/show Italian Greyhounds . Drive past the place each show Thank you for that, yes Dan is still involved. What about Rainbow coast???

Congrats on he human baby Emery, I have two and that is enough for me! the thought of three fighting little monkey's would just about do my head in, two fighting monkeys is enough!

She needs to put more time and effort inot her dog. Infact it sounds like this dog would think the person who is her owner is the least likely to actually be her owner. She needs to get her act sorted, think of the dog and include the dog in more of what she does. Why can't the dog go with her everynight she is staying at the boyfriends??

Maybe you could put a smear of something yummy on the palm fo your hand with a couple of drops of rescue remedy. Would he let you put a drop on the side of his tounge where the gap is between his pre-molars just behind his canines?? I don't open my dogs mouth just pull up their lipo and put it there

As much as I love my dogs they are dogs, not little people not children. What is the problem with seeing them as being owned??? MAybe I am just slow but surely you can have legislation where an animal is owned but still needs to be cared for treated properly??? Like I say I might be missing something here. The day my dog can hold a conversation, make a decision on what is in it's best interests and learn that doing dangerous stuff can hurt it, then I may start to think of them up their with children. -
Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad

I am so very sorry to hear of your very sudden loss of your special girl RIP Sophie, waiting at the bridge. It is hard when they are so young, you feel really ripped off, ripped off they were taken so young and you never got to see them grow old gracefully. Take heart in the fact you did the very best you could by your girl. You allowed her to go gently and quiety without the pain and trauma of surgery. You made the decision with Sophies best interests at heart and put your own feelings aside to make sure she was thought of first. I for one applaude you for doing that. You will get mad, you will be very upset, but over time the fun things you did together will start to make you smile and your memories will be of the good times. Rest easy my friend, no more pain. Run free while waiting at the rainbow bridge. Lots of hugs from myself and the furry crew with some cold Whippet nose prods thrown in. -
I lost my Dobe girl from Cardio 7 weeks before Bub number 3 was born and I felt totally lost. I had been planning on getting a dog when the bub I was pregnant with was at least a year old, and of course depending on when the bitch had babies. Well sometimes life has other ideas and a puppy became available when my baby was 5 months old. I really did a lot of soul searching, I tore myself up and as it was a new breed for me I was very worried incase I didn't have enough time for exercise etc. I had many indepth discussions with her breeder. In the end she came home. I had an 8 week old puppy, a 5 month old baby and a not quite 2 and a half year old. AT times it was fun, but I had a puppy pen set up so If I couldn't watch puppy went in there and I had a playpen set up if required as well. My 2 and a half year old had been coming with me to Puppy Preschool since before he was born so he was very dog savvy and has never broken my rule of no picking up puppies. Rommi was the quietest puppy of the litter and I really think that helped. If I had of had a really ampy puppy it may have been a whole lot harder. I found the play with and train the puppy after the kids were in bed was very relaxing for me and gave me a good break from the washing, feeding, changing bums routine that I was in and I felt slightly suffocated. I now have a 3 year old a 5 year old, an almost 3 yer old Whippet and an 18 month old Whippet as well as a 14 yo Stafford. The kids play outside while I train, they know when I am training they only interrupt me for a very good reason e.g snake, bleeding, fall, hurt themselves etc. I have quite well trained dogs and we do agility and obedience. I also train in the loungeroom when the kids are in bed. I love it, it gives me something I really enjoy and the kids are very dog savvy even though the 3 yo needs the odd reminder on what is appropriate and what isn't. I go walking when their dad is home from shift work and I have 5 acres around the house that I throw toys etc in and they hoon around as well. I would get the dog now and then you can be over the bouncy baby puppy bit and you can establish a routine before bub 3 comes along. Oh I am also very glad my breeder does not have a problem with people with young kids. While some people cannot handle it all many can and I would be very annoyed if I was told I could not have a dog just because of the age of my children.

They have the Whitener in a can but also the White cream cover up??? has anyone tried that? Does it have to be used with chalk?

And then there's the other one that says that you always have to win a game of tug so your dog doesn't think it's in charge.... I don't believe any of it. My dog likes to tug so I reward her with that, like RubyStar said earlier as long as you teach the retrieve correctly you shouldn't have a problem. I think dogs are plenty smart enough to be able to tell they are two seperate exercises, or can with a little bit of training if required and it shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes mine are too smart for their own good!

As far as I am concerned a good dog cannot be a bad colour. However I do not believe in breeding for a specific colour and I would always choose conformation/tempement first and whatever colour they are is what they are. My breed also can be any colour or markings and although SOME people will not be able to look past a clown face or a particular colour, I don't care what colour my dogs are as long as that colour is not connected to a health issue such as Merles etc.

Very cool, would like to find out who they are one day. Might be able to get some pointers Thats my problem as well, although I live a loooong way out of Perth!

Chronic Lack Of Appetite - Now Choking Noises?
OSoSwift replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would take her back also. IT may be more obvious now and because oif the gagging they may want to sedate her to have a look. Hope it is all okay. 3 weeks of no eating would be very wearing and worrying for you -
I hate photos of myself so I would let them take pictures of the dog, but I don't like a picture taken of me. Having said that I have had photos taken of my dog and myself and had them posted in our local paper on more than one occasion and I don't mind. While is was rather random to have a lady walk towards me in a beeline one day after training and ask to take a photo of us, she explained what it was for and I agreed. I am proud of my dogs and get a buzz seeing them in the paper. I don't post photos of myself online or of my kids so I am not into putting those sorts of photos on Facebook or forums, so maybe I would feel differently if that happened. As far as I know I haven't had random shots taken of me and my dog, but I would most likely not know if I had ;) As part of a large group, no I don't mind. I also do not have any issues with having to protect my identity. I may feel different if I did.

Good to hear PF ;) Lewis's sister has gone to the lady with the QLD Whippet and is shaping up very nicely. Maybe in a few years Mine might be out in the ring as well, so hopefullt here will be two in WA to match the others I am suprised there are not more Whippets actually.

Poodles and Cockers make me itch like crazy. I love both these breeds but could not ever live with one. Two of my cats also make my eyes red and itchy but not the other. i didn't know that, ty. my daughter is allergic to cats...all cats, so i thought it was a species thing not an individual animal thing i learn something new every day ;) If a Siamese, Burmese, Turkish Van or Oriental come into the same room as me my throat starts to itch, I sneeze, eyes water and itch like crazy and my face starts to puff up. Yet I can attack a Persian blowing its coat and unless it's fur goes up my nose I barely sneeze! I think allergy testing is definate the way to go. As mentioned there is an allergy threshhold. Basically you can have an allergy to something or even a couple of things and still not show symptoms or bad ones. Then something will just bump you over that line and you start showing all the symptoms of allergies. I maybe a flower that is in bloom, or maybe it is very dusty, a windy day etc. You only become allergic to something you have been exposed to. Your body needs to be exposed to something to be able to amount the immune response to the allergen. That is why people can eat seafood for years then all of a sudden have a reaction.

What no Whippets????? There is a very very good Whippet with lots of titles in QLD though

Who Should Pay For A Dog That Dies On A Flight!
OSoSwift replied to Tysonrox's topic in General Dog Discussion
I read the original question as I bought a dog from the breeder and paid for it, should I get my money back from the breeder. Am I correct??? If so and the autopsy report has no found anything like heart disease etc then I am of the opinion then yes you should still pay for the dog. Once you have paid for the dog it is yours, the breeder hasn't caused the dogs death so unfortunately it is not their cross to bear. Having said that if the dog died due to a medical issue that the breeder would of know about before flying the dog then yes they should refund your money. To me it sounds like the airline is responsible as the dog is not a puppy and has flown before with no issues. I would be seeking compensation from them. I am sure the breeder is extremely upset the dog has died as you are. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Due to the fact of where I live I have and had to fly dogs, adults and puppies and it is always very stressful for me when I do incase the worst happens. -
That is why as much as I love PUgs and wanted one I didn't get one! I really hope it all worked out, but when the health of you family is being affected you have to start asking yourself the hard questions. If it was only yourself yep fine you can choose to put up with it. Having said that have you both tried antihistamines??? On a reguilar basis?? I am allergic to all cats to some degree, Siamese, Burmese etc the worst. Since I was the only nurse at the vet hospital I couldn't avoid them. I took Claratyne daily when working. Worked a treat :D
