Vets are not allowed to tell councils anything about a person and their dogs. It is a breach of client confidentiality. It is only in recent years that vets could disclose peoples info to the RSPCA in relation to animal welfare issues and not be in breach of client confidentiality.

My immediate response was no I wouldn't. But then I thought about it a little more. The breed I have is actually quite suited to that sort of lifestyle as long as all needs are met. I would be concerned but in reality most people (if not all - apart from the odd, very unusual one) are not going to live in a stinking house because they cannot be bothered taking the dog outside to go to the toilet. I would want to know that the dog was going to ge a good few runs outside each day. I don't lock my dogs inside when I am out because I like them to have fresh air. They have dogs runs with a yard that isn't quite finished! - attached to the front, grass and around 7 metres by 4 metres. I live on a farm and have a 5 acre yard around the house so the idea of apartment living is completely yuk to me, but each to their own. I guess it would be the whole package for me. A breeder has every right to choose where their babies go. It is because they care where they go and the life they will have. It is the breeders right to chose. Some may think it is too hard and go to a puppy farmer who couldn't care less and sell to anyone with the money, but they are potentially getting problems and that is a risk you take when getting a puppy from unknown sources. While one particular breeder may not be comfortable with their puppy living in an apartment, another may have experience that says it will not be an issue and happily sell them a puppy.

How old is Hoover now??? They are very cute ears, I love how they mirror or copy each other in your photos

I do have to say my bitch was flown from interstate, I met the breeder at the show, picked her up, she was shown and three days later had a pup. The bitch was returned as she was xrayed as not being pregnant, and due to the fact she had VERY convincing phantoms there was nothing unusual about the large boobs. There was only one pup. So I guess it could have been me! I would never have had her there if I had of known, and she wouldn't have been flown back if the breeder had known.

HE is gorgeous. They sound like a wonderful breed. Can't wait for more pictures.

Old School Type Training

Yep Cos I agree. I have let one friend have the leads of my dogs and that is because I know exactly what she will do. I would never hand my dogs lead over to some random person, or someone I didn't know well. Rastas I would still write the letter, if you have it signed anonymous I don't think it has to be put infront of a meeting. I think you do need your name attached for it to be in the minutes. Having said that even an anonymous letter addressing what you saw , why you didn't like it and some alternatives will at least get them thinking, I am sure! If the people that attend the classes have never seen any different then they probably think it is a perfectly normal way to train a dog. -

HOw awful! Anyone did that to my pup and they would be decked! HAving said that if they want to MAKE a dog/puppy drop. there is a pressure point behind the shoulder blades where you can put pressure on (quite a decent amount but should never hurt) and they will go down, they don't have a choice. Whilst I don't do it that way either it would have to be nicer than the lead stomp!!!! Blimey charlie! Used correctly food isn't a bribe and you can still use food to treat a dog and train food refusal. You just need to think it through and use your brains. I am not suprised you were horrified and I am not suprised you left. I would assume the best place to put in a complaint would be to the president of the club and write a letter so it is formal and included in the minutes. -
Good luck and I hope what he has is simple to fix.

BedazzledX2 is in midland and is an excellent groomer. Railway parade, Bobbi dazzler or something like that??????

I would not risk this happening at all. I am imagine it would be VERY unsettling for a bitch to be whelping in foreign surrounds with unkown and multiple interlopers. I do not think whelping puppies into an environment that is likely to have many viruses and possible diseases circulating is a very smart move either. While I don't think that bitches must stay home and not go anywhere I wouldn't be taking them to a place with a huge amount of dog traffic, and I would not be showing them or taking them to a show from when I found out that they were pregnant. I had a dog pick up a nasty gastro at a show, I wouldn't risk that happening to my pregnant bitch. I would stay home from showing and if it was needed from a couple weeks before she was due "just" incase she went early, then so be it. Babies should be born at home in a nice quiet low stress, low disease load environment

That movie cracks me up! -
Your dog doesn't have to be crated as such. However it makes life much easier if your dog is used to being confined and he needs to be down the track. I have seen some very stressed dogs and people when they suddenly have a dog that need to be crated to recover from orthapedic surgery or a cruciate repair or similar. They are also much less likely to stress at the vets if they need to be left there as they will be in a crate sized cage. Teach him now, refresh him from time to time and if it is needed then it won't be stressful when he really needs to be relaxed while trying to recover from something.

RIP Big fella. You have known true love Tobias and touched all the knew you

I never set up in the front row anyway as there are too many dogs and people letting them piss all over your stuff. It is much quieter and easy going away from ringside a little. You can choose to go down the front and watch/listen or sit out the back and relax. Good to hear the rule re set back from rings has expanded in WA since I lat showed. There was always congestion and having a group 6 dog it was fraught with danger!
-
I don't think anyone would say that and certainly not agree with it. It is very disappointing when a so called breeder does that. They are rego'd back yard breeders with very few ethics.

Fingers crossed so very hard it is your girl.

That "prison" blue green (exactly the colour muttrus!) would look very ugly in my dogs nice fine rose Whippet ears! My Dobes drop ears wouldn't have bothered me quite so much.

sending stay safe and go home vibes to Tess. Good luck.

As per what everyone else said, but also everytime you call and they go to someone and get a pat, or go play with another dog you have just reinforced that come means not much. It also reinforces to them that you are not as fun as the other things. You need to be more, interesting, rewarding or motivating than what they are doing. Sometimes finding the thing that they really like can take a bit of time. Never have him off a long line - don't use it to haul him in rather than teach him to recall properly, think of it as a back up incase he doesn't come. Not many Labs I know would be able to ignore frech warm chicken for example. My Whippets high end motivator is balls, bring out a ball and you can't get rid of them to do a recall. Recall is something that is practiced every day. It may just be to call him from one room to another for a treat or one side of the back yard to you. It does take a while to be reliable and will only get that way with correct, consisant practice.

How many husbands do you have? Only one thank god!! THe though of more than one could bring on an attack of the vapours!

I have used Claratyne successfully on three dogs who all got bee stings when we had a swarm go through. Dose is half a mg/kg.

Woohoo! Go the Whippies, do you foresee yourself coming to Perth for any trials or will you just be going to Albany? I really do not know. If the opportunity presents it's self then I will go to Perth, but I wouldn't go just for a show/trial. I hope to do a couple more than just the two Albany ones, but it would also depend on school, shift working husbands and the budget. It is just such a large exercise to get everything organised when you have to factor in all of the above! ETA - gaining any passes etc will also depend on if I can find an extra handler if required for stays etc. NEver had the quandry of more than one dog per class, or two in the showring at the same time!

Ummm okay call me stupid but, Is this law saying that any dog over 6mths of age that is sold must be desexed INCLUDING breeding/showing dogs on the main register????? That is beyond stupid. Many people purchase older dogs for breeding/showing which of course cannot be done if they are desexed. And what is an appropriate number of dogs /cats
