Got Told That I Do Everything Wrong With Sasha Today
OSoSwift replied to Kelly_Louise's topic in General Dog Discussion
She sounds like a wel behaved well adjusted dog to me. Considering you didn't get her until she was a year old and she had very little evidence oif training I would say you have done very well. I do not expect everybody to be interested in obedience like I am or to have a dog trained to the level I aspire to, but I do expect them to behave well in public which it sounds your girl does easily. Tell him to rack off! I haven't had training tips very often but I did get lots of comments when I had the Rotti's then the Dobes and I get just as many regarding the Whippets. Some good, many not so but phooey to them. Be proud of what you have achieved -
I feed mainly dry, and they get bones, dried chews, bit of meat, sardines, yoghurt etc. One cannot eat beef and another can chew on beef ribs that have all fat removed and on a very small amount of meat, but no raw meat, lamb bones, chicken etc he gets very unwell.. The last one eats whatever! Because I do feed largly dry I can tell if a particular food does not suit them. The allergy dog rips his skin, gets really bad gas and very runny poo. The other two seem to tolerate most things. I have been feeding Optimum as it has no wheat, but have recently tried BH and really like the ingredients and the allergy dog did really well on it. Their poops were the same on BH and Optimum After christmas I am ordering BH

I too think if the video was chopped, edited and sped up then you would notice because people in the back ground would be all over the place. If the judge is in danger of being kicked out I would imagine they would do what they could to avoid that. I do not think the video was edited and as Jed has said, the puppy's body language increased it didn't chop and change it also wouldn't go near the woman on the back. I think this is purely damage control.

These are the ones I use

His nose also looks a little like the reaction dogs can get when they are allergic to plastic and are eating out of a plastic dog bowl??? His nails would feel much better after a good trim. Good luck.

Good to hear Toby is going well. You may get in the trial ring with him yet I like the sound of Rally but have no idea about what it involves! Maybe I will try to get some of the other titles I would like then go for rally as well.

Benson can back out of a slip collar, he's the only dog I've ever seen do it deliberately. He walks quietly beside me, relaxes his neck muscles, drops his chin and somehow or other, just a bit of a gentle flick with his head and voila, he's off and running. So, I walk him with it up under his chin and on a short, taut lead. He has way too many brains for his own safety and figures things out that I would never think a dog could understand. Haven't had that happen as yet!! They walk in front at the end of their lead as such but not pulling, sometimes Rommi drops back beside. I have them done up firmly so they cannot slide off if they drop their head, and then there is the limited slip bit so they tighten more if required. I have never had one back up and drop their head or anything so thankfully I don't think they know they could?? Well I don't think they know. Benson is a smart lad, hope he only uses those brains for good!

You have got me thinking, I do see many people around here with dogs in halti's and others, harnesses and no pull harnessess. With many at training if the dog is a puller, they wack on a halti. Hmmm. Mine walk on limited slip collars purely for safety - they can easily slip flat collars due to the fact their heads are barely bigger than their necks. It means I do not have to worry about them getting away from me. Harnesses are for the car, tracking or pulling, have never had a halti type thing on either of them and they are all taught llw. At our PPS people are told about these peices of equipment and their benefits and down falls. We recommend ALL dogs are taught to walk on a LL properly. In reality probably 10% or less actually put the effort in, or they can't seem to get it to work, so rather than seek help they wack them in a easy fix piece of equipment. I think it is a reflection of society in general people want it to happen now, they do not want to wait or potentially have to put lots of time and effort into having it happen. Of course there are poeple like ourselves that do put the effort in.

Thank you all. I have been ever so careful and hoping and hoping it would be all good, and so far it is. Now to keep her sound so we can train and hit the trial ring in Feb 2012

I am very happy today. Rommi's first day being allowed to actually run, and she did and pulled up sound! I am still not letting her hoon with Lewis as they get very pushy and shove each other, so maybe a week or two more, but she zoomed, love it and isn't limping - gotta be a good day

Love the routine, love the changes, the passage and what I think was piaffe. Very nice half pass as well! Hard enough getting my horse to do some of that never mind the dog!

That is A LOT of poop to be picking up shortly!! I hope I never have a bitch that has that many babies!!! It would be more than a full time job in it's self!

I have never seen a Pug with a jaw, head and eyes that look like that. Not sure what sort of Pugs you have seen?????

Can you still get it in Aussie? We used to be able to get in it NZ but now can't. Not sure why - it's not illegal, just something to do with the supplier. Also, pretty sure it's not actually officially licensed for use in bitches (correct me someone if I'm wrong) although people do use it that way. Not licensed just means that if anything goes wrong, the company won't want to know you. Not sure if it's licensed or not, I thought it was but their website would lead me to assume it isn't but something they may be testing for, for future use. I got a Suprelorin implant for Lewis in August as far as I am aware it is still available, but not sure.

Silly People Doing Stupid Things? Vent!
OSoSwift replied to Keira&Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had my Dobermann on the front seat of my ute. I was getting a canopy on but it was happening a week later. I had the window open much like yours. I hear her go off and rushed back, was a matter of 5 metres away. A bloke said your dog had a go at me. I asked him what he had done?? ( thinking her response was unusual for a person just walking past) I only wanted to pat her!!! I said, Have you got bloody rocks in your head, she is a Dobermann, a guarding breed, sitting in the front of HER car and you go and stick you bloody hand through the window??????? What exactly did you think she was going to do. She is a guarding breed for gods sake. The window is barely down enough for you to get your bloody hand through it - for a reason, she will not like someone putting their hand through the window. Do me a favour in future - DO NOT put you hand in anyones window to pat their dog because you will end up getting bitten! He ended up apologising. I was mad, but shocked that someone would be so stupid, and shocked that my dog had come close to biting him. I think that some people are just stupid. I bought one of those plastic grills, but after that had my canopy on with that stainless mesh on the windows to stop anyone getting in or her going through it. -
Happy birthday Ptolomy hope it was a great one and you got spoilt. Whippet kisses and wet Whippet nose prods from us

My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please
OSoSwift replied to A and G's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree that any breed of dog rushing at mine would put me on the defense. I have Whippets and if a large or solid dog managed to body slam them they could be badly injured. Not only that if my bitch feels threatened and cornered she will react and snap. I have a real problem if the aggressor then retaliates and bites my dog injuring her or killing her. She is 11 kgs so not very big. If a large dog rushed at mine I would kick at them if I thought in any way there was a worry of an attack. I have caught a border Collie X GR that launched at my Whippets as the owner didn't even try and call the dog as it wouldn't come back. They were coming up a pathway that lead from the beach to their car which was parked on the side of the road??????? Yep really good that one! He was oh sorry. I had the leads of my two in one hand and caught the collar of this dog before it got to my dogs in the other hand and hurt my wrist while i was at it. The dog ahd no hackles up but if it had of hit my dogs with the velocity that hit my wrist when I grabbed it my dogs would have been hurt. Don't let your dog run up to other dogs. Please. To many dogs get hurt because people allow them to. If it were my dogs you would have copped a mouthful as well. -
This is of their website. So at this stage I cannot find on there website that it can be used, but I know a couple of people on DOL have used it in bitches
