  1. Sounds a little like anaphylatic shock. It can be from anything such as a spider, bee etc She is obviously very allergic. Lots of hugs for you and lots of get well vibes for your girl.
  2. Shaking and drooling can be a sign of extreme pain as well, not necessarily just a tummy bug. Hope he is okay.
  3. While I would not and will not get a dog from the pound. I want my dogs at 8 to 10 weeks, I want to know their parentage, I want to know what they will look like and the basic temperment they will have along with the breeders input on the individuals temperment as well. I will not take potluck on a dog whom I have no idea what has happened to it, or how the dog has been raised. Early socialisation and nutrition to me are extremely improtant, as is knowing the parents their temperment and health. I have just read that and it make me sound very control freak!!!! But those are the reasons I am happy their are ethical breeder from whom I can buy dogs, or help me to breed the dogs I am after.
  4. With training for the staying still longer it needs to be worked up to an reinforced every step of the way. For her it honestly might be in 1 to 3 second increments. It needs to be HIGHLY reinforced. don't think she is doing well Iw ill get her to stand for a minute it won't work. Duration first Show stackers may help to get her more likely to stand still but I have never used them so cannot really comment.
  5. If you can - move out. Sorry but living like that would completely do my head in! Or fence the yard in two the Aunties do in one side yours in the other. Inside if it has a go lock it in the toilet or something for time out. Maybe I am just a cow who is more confrontational, but this would really drive me insane.
  6. I always said no, however times have changed, my breed changed and I have very knowledgable people who are very happy to help me out. So now it is yes and we will be having a litter in the next little while.
  7. Agreed, train her to hold the stack for longer. I did it with my male Whippet who's tail goes most of the time. He did extremely well when I showed him a few weeks ago and whilst I had to reposition a foot a couple of times it was a vast improvement! She can have a hyper moment after she has done well as a reward. What breed??
  8. Sorry, but I'll take objective tests over lofty statements every time. Health testing, as you suggest, is not the be all and end all of optimal breeding. However its measureable and provable. That matters to me as an indicator that the breeder is attempting to breed healthy dogs. I agree I have had a dog from a breeder who was in their opinion breeding to optimize their puppies chances for good health. My dog died at 8 and a half from a hereditary disease. Now whilst I understand that not all diseases are as simple as a yes or no answer and the answer can be it is okay for now, but could show up later, I will still go for the breeder that has done the testing as to me they have a big head start in trying to do the best thing with the info they have at hand.
  9. I hate it when I am walking along the street and all of a sudden myself and children cop a lung full of smoke. Just revolting. Cigarette smoke makes me cough and wheeze, apart from the fact it just stinks! I don't walk my dogs near roads so my pets do not suffer from exhaust fume inhalation and I can't stand the smell of it or fuel as it gives me an instant headache, so if there is a car running in a garage I am out of there.
  10. I am assuming that your auntie and her dog live with you?? If so you need to lay down the line of what is acceptable to your auntie and her dog. If Shelley lives with a dog like that all the time then I am not suprised in the least that she is becoming less tolerant, if that was my Dobe bitch it would have gone quite a away past the odd snap and hackles raised. Even my Whippet bitch would have started reacting. If the dog is showing inappropriate behaviour put it in time out. If your auntie doen't like it tough, she is not doing anything about it!!
  11. A friend of mine smoked and her dog had allergies. When she got her tested she showed up as being allergic to tobacco smoke. After that they didn't smoke around the dogs, but prior to that they did. I would not/do not tolerate smoking around myself, children or animals. I don't really have any friends that smoke, but the odd person that comes has to go outside well away from the house and not drop their butts - another thing I HATE.
  12. I think Shortstep likes to stir up the Bee's nest and see what happens.
  13. They are normally quite lean and the parents look like they are caryying more condition than I have normally seen. I would think cattle and donkeys would be too big for them. Calves and foals yes, adults no. They would kill the babies and rabbits and other smaller animals, but they are very good scavengers
  14. The tape -or whatever it is- looks like it is covering the carpal pad which I presume would be very easy for them to tear or cut if they slipped in rubble.
  15. Thay are being left alone at this point and the person came on here to make sure they were doing the right thing, so they will be left alone. Yes there are too many do gooders in all areas, but not this time.
  16. They look in very good condition to me and I am not 100% sure they look pure, but comparing them to stock internet photos they may be.
  17. Have you tried luring him with food instead of guiding him with your hands???
  18. Mine generally have water all the time, but when I go camping I usually feed them reasonable early, where possible, make sure they have a good drink, then take them out for last toilet. I do leave the water just outside the tent so I don't get a wet floor, but they will fidget and carry on if they are thirsty so I let them out, they drink and go back to bed. If I feed them quite early they don't seem to need to get up during the night. When I had my Dobes it was different, a much stricter routine before and after exercise etc.
  19. I am by no means an expert but Rommi damaged her gracilius but where the tendon goes from the muscle into the bone. She had small lead walks only, was told NOT to crate her. No zoomies, free play jmumping on/off lounges etc and after i think 4 weeks it was fine and hasn't been an issues since. Hers didn't tear though. Everything I read when they thought it way be a small tear was that it is rest, lead walking and time - not surgery.
  20. I got Lewis at almost 8 months and he had never been taught sit. It really didn't take that long and now automatic sits come quite easily. He also stands a lot more square in his stands than my bitch who was taught obedience first. HE was taught to plat his back legs then his front legs are the last to stop so while it isn't perfectly sqaure it is pretty close and he doesn't shuffle around to get there. In the show ring they power out in front and out from me, in obedience they look up and are very close to me. I would change his stand word but as for the rest with time it will come. Most dogs will offer what they have been most rewarded for. For him the automatic stand is what he has had lots of rewards for. In time the sit will be the most rewarded exercise instead of the stand. Lewis's stand for exam is rock solid, Rommi on the other hand.............
  21. Xi (pronounced Zi) Q as in James Bond
  22. It would make it very hard for you Sheriden when you dog actually gets sick if he is fed something else. If they don't want to export it then don't, don't do a half arsed job! I agree everyone who still feeds it is far mor patient that I would be!
  23. She sounds perfect And yes we would like pictures
  24. Oh cake - wish I was going to the classic, I like cake
  25. What is the correct pronounciation for those, took me long enough to get the Mali's right! Groan-en-darl Ter-ver-en Mal-en-wah Lak-en-wah 'ois' is pronounced 'wah' in French (and in Belgian also I suppose) Thank you - I shall practice
