  1. Haven't read about those?, but as soon as you tried to place her she roached her back, clamped her tail and looked really crapped off at the world. So she was taught to walk into a stack and would kick her back legs back to the correct spot, start wagging her tail and then she would drop the tip of her nose so her neck was slightly arched. She looked great and looked happy to be there.
  2. Have you tried training her to walk into a free stack?? My friend even got her dog to wag it's tail on command with clicker training as the dog when she got her really didn't like the ring. It worked very well, and she actually learned to like it after a little while.
  3. Three Dobes and two Rotti's all natural ears, not one ear issue......
  4. There is cartlidge through the entire ear it isn't just skin so you do cut through and remove cartlidge.
  5. Can you try her on a different lead and collar??
  6. What I have found in general if you go to a breeder that breeds very good quality dogs and knows what they are doing you generally get a fairly even litter. Now there will most likely be a stand out or two and you may not get those, but the ones below those pups as such are still very good quality and could quite likely do well in the ring, they may not be a BIS winner but still would not embaress you in the ring as all of the puppies are very good quality, but they only breed from, show, pick the absolute cream of the crop. That means your puppy will be quality.
  7. Number three looks like a Lab X or badly bred lab, but as for the other three - no way!
  8. Mine are in their dogs runs. They are 2 m X 5m each. They have brick houses, concrete floor, chainmesh adn a zincalume roof - no eacape! ALos in summer I have a huge fear of the dogs being locked inside and a fire coming. They are mcuh safer in their runs surrounded by green grass than in the house. Also our house gets very hot when locked down and they are not outside without us due to livestock fences adn snakes. I have now built a yard off the front of the dog runs that is around 6 m X 12 m and is grass with snake mesh buried into bluemetal rocks to help deter snakes. When it is properly finished they will have access to that and the dog runs when I am out. I do not like to leave my dogs locked in the house, but on the odd occasion I have they are usually fast asleep on their bed and don't even seem to have noticed I have gone.
  9. I think you can breed and not show, BUT! You need to be the type of person that keeps up with what is happening within their breed, they need to read research and read some more. They need to have knowledgable mentors and friends who can give an unbiased opinion on their dogs but most of all they need to posses the ability to see the flaws and weaknesses within their own dogs and bloodlines. I go to the very odd show because I enjoy it but due to a young family and distance it doesn't happen often. Maybe down the track I will do more. I think I am more critical of my dogs than others are. I keep as up to date as I can and make sure I ask questions and listen to the answers.
  10. Mine have been on it a little while now I have noticed no flatulance, Lewis cannot handle raw lamb but has no issues with BH. They do less poos than they did, they have good coat and condition which they had before, I have had to cut down the quantity but that may also be due to the fact they are having a little less exercise due to the humidity and warmer weather. I am very happy with the quality and price, so much so I am now a distributor
  11. I agree a dog run that she can be locked into with bones, Kongs toys etc. I think if you padlock the fridge you may discover just how strong those jaws are!
  12. Get their phone number and ring them every time the dog barks and keep ringing them until they do something about it. Take a video diary and keep at the ranger!
  13. Congratulations to everyone after the first night as the classic. Hopefully many more good results to come
  14. With Petplan you have your cover for the year, there are no sub limits within that amount. You could claim it all for surgery, all for medication ect. That and the fact they cover diseases up to the limit each year is the reason I went with petplan even though they were a little more expensive on the yearly premium
  15. I do agree that longevitiy (and concurrently good quality of life) are something that I do like. That is one of the reasons why I went for Whippets after my Dobe. Also the fact there are far less hereditary diseases that plague them, unlike the Dobes. I do not own Dobes for a couple of reasons now, but the main one is with my last one my heart was broken, I just can't go there again for a long time, if ever. And yes I do agree that using older males at stud is one way of helping longevity along.
  16. I have only used nails trimmers in the past. Just take the sharp tips off.
  17. Yes true, but it is very hard to breed from a 14 year old bitch, so whilst you could breed from her pups and grand pups, she may never have had any in the first place?
  18. I most certainly would like to know that breeding for longevity is important for a breeder, however I want my dogs sound enough so they live a long time as pain free and mobile as possible and have good cognative ability. No point them living to 16 if they can barely move and have no idea what is going on. I have had Dobermann's. www.dobepac.com has Dobes from all over and they have a longevity thing built into the dogs on their site. They have different coloured dots before their name that represent different things. My first bitch lived until nearly 12 - she was tagged as having longevity My second ( grandaughter of the first) was tagged as having longevity in her lines until she died at 8 and a half. My young bitches dad died not long after 10 (not the same issue as her) and I have no idea how long her mum lived. I was also told that a Dobe after the age of 8 was very old, which I think is rubbish. Having said that my older bitch was very old by the time she went, as in she had fairly extensive arthritis, some vision and hearing issues as well as a couple fo older things. If she had of lived another few years then I think it would have been to much for her. Longevity is affected by other issues such as genetic diseases, so I think once the genetic issues are better controlled and reduced then the age of the Dobe will increase naturally. The problem of course being that with some there is no black and white answer and it isn't as simple as a test, a result and then including or removing from the gene pool. Also as mentioned nutrition and care also affects longevity.
  19. Wishing everyone lots of passes and wins at the Classic Have a great time
  20. That is fantastic news, I am so pleased to see your update. Of course we now need a photo so we can see the little face that stressed everyone out! Pats and cuddles to your little girl.
  21. Someone mentioned a Whippet. Whilst a Whippet would be good in respect to a few of the things he is after, I am not sure that being at Doggy day care all day for at least 5 days a week would actually suit a Whippet at all. I may be wrong and they do like playing with other dogs at times but they are not social butterfly's. They also need to be inside with the family. I am not sure if he was planning to have the dog inside when he was home or not. They do love being with people and following you around, they are good with kids, not hypo, very clean in the house, and don't need hours of exercise.
  22. Gorgoeus boy, I am very glad he is feeling much better.
  23. I have to go for Remmi as I have a Rommi Of course we need photos!
