  1. Very well done, and congratulations. Just a quick question If your dog does a poo in the ET do you bag it and ride with it or bag it and pick the bag up later or go back and pick it up after??? Just been thinking as my dog likely will!
  2. I guess the bigger the better, but of course cost comes into it. My Dobes were in there runs while I was at work, they were seperate but the runs were 5 m X 4 in total including the brick house bit. I would definately go no smaller than that.
  3. Well done you should be justafiably proud.
  4. So true Janba, Lewis gets sad but still eats etc and doesn't become a looney or anything. I know that many people say they get sick of seeing the same mistakes being made or the same questions being asked. While I can understand the frustration it is the FIRST time that particular person has asked them. They don't know that that question may have been asked a hundred times before. It is an opportunity to educate and help someone out, we quite possiblya ll started with very different ideas than we have now. I am the kind of person that if someone gets on their high horse about something it is more likely to annoy me and stubborn sets in. If something is discussed in a civil fashion with knowledgable answers then I am all ears. If it annoys people that much to answer a question yet again, then don't if the answer is going to be inflammatory.
  5. A person is not stupid because they maybe didn't think to ask the questions. We all learn from our mistakes. You are only stupid if you make the same mistakes more than once. It is very easy to be judgemental when you are knowledgable dog savvy person
  6. Goodluck Mason hope you get another pass. I train every second day with one of my dogs and taper it off a little towards the trial. The other we have short daily training sessions. On the day of the trial I ask for some very focused heeling (talking seconds of) some positions, a couple of rear end awarness positions and maybe a trick or two. I like them bouncy bouncy as they will quite often flatten out in the ring with handler ring nerves etc. I like to give the last treat as I am going into the ring, but my male gets uber excited when we are razing up and quite often inhales his last treat and then has a gacking attack in the ring. So with him we giove heaps of praise just ebfore going in the ring. I give my bitch her last treat just before we got hrough the gate. I have their little treat container ( the same one all the time) outside the ring at a reasonable distance but I make sure they see where I put it so when we have finished we come racing out of the ring to a jackpot. If I could control my nerves we would be great, the dogs are fine it's me that's the problem!
  7. I thought it might be too late, but didn't know it was supposed to be started quite that early. Useful info - thank you.
  8. Are these used to being seperated for varying time when she is not in season??? If they are always together that will not be helping him at all and adding to his stress. It may not help right now, but make sure as soon as she is out of season you start getting them used to being apart for periods of time here and there. Quite often crated side by side can work, they can see each otehr but not get to each other. Don't crate one and leave the other free in the room, they can mate thorugh crates. Chlorophyll liquid from the pharmacy can help mask her scent a little, but not sure if it would help much if she has alreay been in season for a week. Are you planning on keeping them both entire or your bitch for the long term? If you are, it may be worth building an escape proof, mating proof dog yard in your back yard. I don't like the idea of just locking them in the house as I have seen more than one bitch go through a window to get to a suitor. Some males can be a total pain and act like that every time, some can just become clingy and sooky like my boy who walks around permanently looking like someone is telling him off!
  9. Was about to say they are already here, and although I wouldn't own one myself they are an interesting breed and I am quite sure those that have brought them in and are breeding them will be very careful whom they go to. I am interested to see photos of your babies when they arrive. Goodluck
  10. I am very sorry this has happened. I am very glad that your children didn't get bitten, they were very brave trying to seperate them but I am very glad they didn't get caught in the middle. Such an awful set of circumstances and whilst it is normal to think about the what if's it is just one of those terrible accidents. Sending lots of cyber hugs to you and your family.
  11. If I was called out to two reasonalbe sized dogs who were attacking anotehr dog I would most certainly have my weapon drawn. I have not watched it but I agree being there does not have the luxury of being able to watch and analyse it later. Dogs in with stock at my place that are showing absolutely no interest in them and are nowhere near there will be given a second chance - but they will only be returned once. Any dog that has shown any tendency to chase or harrass my stock is gone. Simple. Stress can cause abortion, muscle melt down and many other things. DO NOT ALLOW DOGS TO WANDER AND THEY WON'T GET SHOT! As PF said quite simple really. Also if a dog goes missing the immediate thing you do is call all the neighbours and get out there lookign for it straight away. I have lived on this farm for over 10 years and never had one of my dogs wander - ever! I have picked up a few contained them and called their owners, but mine have NEVER roamed - why?? Becaue they have adequate facilities and are propely supervised. Yes accidents happen but if your dogs are never normally an issue then most neighbours are willing to not be trigger happy.
  12. Hope Scoota is okay Ptolomy. It is very hard to feel like you are doing nothing while waiting for test results, but hopefully they can pinpoint what the issue is and get him better very soon.
  13. He is "The Man of Mystery" Maybe you should have called him Austin!
  14. I would think he is possibly a Pug X Pug/Beagle. They can sometimes reasonably strongly take after one of the breeds, but he definately has something else. What sort of height/ weight is he? From personal experience most Vets are not breed savvy and wouldn't know what many breeds are.
  15. Checked Lewis's again tonight when he was awake but laying next to me on the lounge. I did it over a full minute on a few occassions. He got 33 and 30.
  16. When my Dobe did her ET her HR from the vets (On her fitness certificate) was 78 - but she hated being on the table etc. When we did the ET the vet asked me if she ever got excited about anything?? She rested her head on the hand of the lady holding her and rested while he checked HR, pads etc. One of her HR check ins was 60, not sure about the others. Every single time mine get their HR checked at the vets I get a comment, usually is she/he quite fit. I answer yes reasonably, as I don't work really hard to get them ultra fit we just do what we do and I don't like having overweight dogs and we live on acreage and go walking etc a fair bit. At the moment Lewis is in traiing for his ET.
  17. I use heaps from the US so will look them up and post later. Clean run has a free shipping area
  18. At his age it may not help, but if your getting hime desexed anyway I guess time will tell. I am not sure if you want them in when you are there at night or you want them in during the day?? Not sure, sorry if I am being blonde but your posts are jumping a little all over. One thing you can do to help in the mean time - if he will tolerate it - is a bellyband. Then at least if he cocks his leg the pee goes into a pad not in your house, You also say they fight over nothing but then ask if you need one crate or two?? Definately a crate each even in the need to be right next to one another. If they suffer stress you may need to get anti anxiety medication to help reduce the stress while you do the training. Hopefully I have read everything right
  19. They don't allow martingales - what about for dogs like Whippet who could easily slip a collar??? - Bloody stupid idea! If you lived near me I'd be in, but I think the South East of WA may be a little out of your way!
  20. Sorry about Miss Kitty RnH such a traumatic thing to happen. Hey Bedazzled hope to see you there and I do need a new helmet, was planning on buying one as I needed one last time. Could do with a new bike as well, but madly riding around every 6 or so years probably won't see me getting a new one.
  21. If I ran next a bike for 6kms I would be dead!!! lUckily I get to ride it!
