  1. I had a dog that couldn't stand Samoyeds! Other upright coated breeds she stood back and watched until she made sure they were friendly but get a Samoyed anywhere near her and she would lose the plot, have no idea why?? Maybe it has something to do with their shape or behaviour?
  2. A good place to start is to contact the breeder. Sometimes Pedigree papers are not issued until later as the breeder doesn't submit paperwork until all pups are sold. Do you know the breeders prefix? or kennel name? If you do you can contact the canine body for your state ( or the state the pups were born in ) to check that the litter have been registered with them. in WA it would be Dogs West, in Vic Dogs Vic etc etc
  3. From the little I have been able to find and from reading a little between the lines it would appear their prefix was ANKC registered at some point.
  4. I would go the male route first. There are many mnay people who talk the talk but when it comes down to it they do not keep up their end of the bargain and suddenly their is a bitch pumping out puppies etc. You need to become known and trustworthy. I would not talk about breeding. Just because you buy a bitch with potential does not mean she will be good enough to breed from once she is an adult. If that happens what will you do? keep her and desex her, rehome or breed anyway? these are the sorts of things you need to think about and the breeder will want to know, over time and building a relationship. I suggest building a relationship witha breeder/s well before you are wanting a puppy, a good 12 months would be required BEFORE you get a pup, bu the longer the better. I am cynical and to be perfectly honest I would not believe I could trust someone unless they showed it over time
  5. Try putting "independent (insert breed here) breeders association"................ Basically they have created their own independent registry and are thus registered breeders with that independent "insert breed" registry.
  6. You can buy small cones with numbers already on them. Other than that yep what Nek says, go to a sign writer, their stuff lasts a long time
  7. Dogs become overweight when there are more calories going in than can be used. The amount required varies through out life and is influenced by being entire or not, extercise, injury, age etc etc. It is the owners responsibily to adjust the calories as required. From what I have seen in my years at our vet hospital, Pyometra was a fairly regular occurance in older/old entire bitches. I had a Toy Poodle come into the kennels with her own meals prepared into meal sized portions. She is the perfect weight, 5 months old so still requiring more calories than a fully mature bitch, not yet desexed. She got a tablespoon of food three times a day, plus a couple of small teeth cleaning type treats. They sound like they are getting a decent amount of food for their size and that it could be reduced. Oh I just read they get 1/3 of a cup of dry as well. I am guessing low calorie or light? even so it could be reduced in my opinion. They require less calories so reduce them, they won't be over weight any more.
  8. MIne get desexed when older and they don't have a weight issue. Their food is adjust compared to need exercise. If you cannot reduce the amount of food, then you need to reduce the type of food they are getting to a lower calorie food. If they are overweight they are getting too many calories for their needs. I do expect an older dog to get an older dog shape but that doesn't mean get fatter.
  9. I do t go there, I find it too upsetting but also because all that starts running through my head is swear words and name calling...........
  10. Yep I agree. 13 weeks before I had bub number two my dog was diagnosed with DCM. I had an almost two year old. I managed to medicate her 4 times a day. It can be done if you care enough.
  11. I had a kid pen and a puppy pen. Both looked similar, except the puppy pen had newspaper. Oh and I had a shocking reflux vomiting child. I just had cloth nappies everywhere! Simple!
  12. I can assure you there are many of us that do not feel as she does. I had two dogs and 3 indoor 24/7 cats when I brought my first baby home. Yes the first few months were hectic but we lived on acerage and have 5 acres around the house I could run them in. Both dogs were older adults so very undemanding. The cats slept in our bed and we made an old fashioned "meat safe" cot so our cats could continue as they had. I also had horses, my mare foaled 12 weeks after my first son. When I was pregnant with number 2 my dog became ill and died 7 weeks before he was born. It really killed me. I wanted another dog but waited as I didn't know what sort of baby I was going to have. We still had 3 indoor cats. Child number 2 was born, there were difficulties and I really struggled and ended up with PTSD and depression. I felt I was going mad. Number two was a very laid back baby. A pup became available and was a laid back puppy, so I ended up with a 2 and a half year old, 5 month old and an 8 week old puppy. She was and is my saviour. Along the way we have lost two of those old cats, but we got three more and now have four. We have gained a few more dogs along the way and now have four. We gain two horses, a goat and a poddy lamb as well. I love my all of my animals with all my heart as I do my kids. They are now 7 & 9. They have grown up with a swag of animals since young and love and respect them as we do. The person that wrote that article is selfish, horrible and shouldn't have a dog. If I can have as many as I do, plus run a cattle farm and have kids she can look after one very undemanding older dog and she can do it properly. Shame on her!
  13. I can, the dog brows to its full potential without being able to have babies. I see it as a good way to gaurd against dogs being bred from or sold to PF's inadvertently and them then pumping puppies out. The dog has the benefit of hormones for growth. For boys, I like my boys when they are entire. I had one have the Suprelorin implant, he was too soft, painfull to try and train and had no resilience. Once that wore of he was was back to the drivey, pushy, fantastic dog to train that I liked. If I had a boy I didn't want to breed from I would do a vasectomy if there was entire bitches on the property to make sure there was no risk of mismatings. I wouldn't do a TL and never spey. I would do a TL on a young pup and then desex once mature. I personally can keep them seperated with relative ease so I would just desex when 2 or so.
  14. Most likely Spey incontinence. Good idea to get her checked to make sure it isn't a UTI
  15. Susan Salo's 'Foundation Jumping' and 'Advanced Jumping' DVD sets are very good. They teach dogs to read distances and to lengthen and shorten stride as needed. She runs workshops at Susan Garrett's place. Thank you, I have some of her stuff so will look those up. Much appreciated
  16. If you have the ability to confine/closely monitor her then i would just leave it and desex her at 3. I think that you have obviously done your research and well done for trying to be fully informed and doing what is best for your girl
  17. Great to hear he is going well. I hope to hear many more positive updates.
  18. Yep I can see it has its advantages, I am just not a people person these days and don't have patience when it comes to working with people anymore.
  19. Just have to say what a trip down memory lane I haven't looked on Dobermann Pacifica for years. Just been reading through critiques adn Breed Surveys on my girls. How I miss them. I am not sure which Windswept ones I have photos of as my books are packed away.
  20. Shit, RIP little man, so courageous. Such a horrific time
  21. What a load of bollocks! Yep occasionally something grabs out attention :)
