Obedience Trialling A Blind Dog
OSoSwift replied to Romysaxon's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would suggest trying to get him to raise the angle that he hold his head so you have full and strong eye contact. Well done for getting your CCD, you should be very proud of yourselves. My friend is trialling a deaf dog and while we have to think outside the square she is going really well. She has also had some confidence issues which we are working on, but the main thing that is helping her is her focus and looking at her owners face. I have attached a photo of what I am thinking about -
The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?
OSoSwift replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Saw a dog today that is a Stafford cross, Looks exactly like a friends Stafford Jack russell, except for the colouring. Interesting long bodied short legged dog with some of the biggest thigh muscles I have ever seen! -
Rumour has it these will be here soon. You will find sighthounds quite different to spitzs! They sound very interesting. I have always liked the look of the Pharaoh hounds, but don't think I could live with one, these ones sound like a great little dog and rather trainable. Hmmm will keep a look out for these little guys

I only walked today - 5kms. 7kms on the bike yesterday and then a 3 km walk, plus having to pull a calf late in the evening wore me out! Back on the bike tomorrow -
God just saw JRT X Dalmation!!! Craziness

can't find the ad....but then again googling is not my strong point! Just horrendouns and when the puppies get HD it will be the Rotti in them 'cause purebred Rotti's get that ya know. It won't be because they parents should never have been bred from and they should never have crossed those two breeds. It is purely a money making venture.

You need a Lewis then :D HIs sister is the same I reckon so! Pity I didn't manage to meet them or you when I was over there It's a bugger though, that in a breed with so much untapped potential that there are no sport titled Whippets (didn't count ET titles) in the profiles even though the breed is extremely capable! We are working on that!! The lady that has Lewis's sister has one of the most titled Whippet in Oz I would thing, so her girl should get some. We hope to but as distance is our tyranny it won't be as many as I would like. Yes it is a bugger, would loved to have met you and your guys as well.

Woohoo, good girl Ari. And it sounds like a day time whelping??? if so very well organised you two!

Well I have a Stafford and the Whippets and will always have at least one...or two......or three!! One Whippet is never enough! On top of that French Bulldog Border Collie GSP Poodle (Min) not a show dog, purely for dog sports Rottweiler (again)

Happy birthday CC, I haven't aged since 26 myself :D Good to hear your boy is going well Emery Rosie, it saddens we the pressure they are putting on kids so young, they will burn out before yr 12 at that rate!
-
Daisy looks very happy. It is such a pleasure to see her working like that. When you started before your training with Steve she was nowhere near as focused - now she rocks Oh yeh and definately ditch the gumboots! :D Mine do not work well at all when it is cold unless they have a nice warm coat on - oh and they hover drop went he grass is wet! I also would doubt they would stick a full times stay unless they ahd a coat on when it is cold, especially cold wind

1. What are your thoughts of animals in pet shops? Cruel Unsure Fine Comments:____________________________________________________ 2. Would you consider buying an animal from a pet store? Yes No 3. Have you ever brought an animal from a pet shop? Yes No 4. Why did you get the animal from the pet shop? ____________________________________________________________________________ 5. Did the animal live with you till the end of its life or still is living with you? Yes No 6. If you answered No for question 5, do you know what happened to the pet? Yes No 7. Reason to give the animal up. (circle answer) Cant afford it Moved housed Took too much to care for Too destructive Not good with kids No time Didnt get on with other animals Other None of the above really. I would and have only rehomed an animal when they would have a much less restrictive and better quality life in another home. Can't take it when I move too destructive, just had a baby doesn't wash with me. 8. Do you know where pet shops get their animals from? Yes No 9. Does it make you concerned? Yes No 10. Do you think Pet shops are better than shelter pets? No Why/ Why not? Because an ethical rescue with correctly temperment test and rehome an animal to an appropriate home. Pet shops sell them to the first person in with the cash! Not to mention the lack of socialisation in pet shops and being locked in small cages and glass boxes [/b 11. Have you ever brought an animal from a rescue shelter, group or qualified breeder? Yes No Registered ethical breeder 12. Where you happy with the animal? Yes No 13. Did the animal live with you till the end of its life or is it still living with you? Yes No Those that have passed on have lived with us until they died, the rest still live with us.

I was told at one show the judge was a face judge so I shouldn't expect to win. Here I was thinkink I probably wouldn't win becausei was up against a grand champion with an extremely experienced handler!

Looks normal to me. They wrap muscle around the bottom of the bone so that it will not be painful when they lay down etc. It is possibly still a little swollen and all I have seen like that have never had an issues with knocking or injuring their leg. If it was too much shorter there would be nothing just looking straight at the abdomen from the side really. How short would have thought it would go???

Please do not beat yourself up, some dogs and people and situations just don't gell. It sounds liek avery unique and stressful situation you were in and one that it seems you have done everything to try and rectify. It is easy to sit there on a computer and sprout things and very different living them! I think you have gone far beyond what many have done to try and get this to work. IT sounds as though this dog really needs otehr dogs around him and probably does not know how to function outside a large number of dogs. I feel very very sorry for you, but please do not say you are a failure, this was a VERY complex situation.

Most definately a major achievement as well. I just had this very cute picture of a Pap strutting along like they owned the joint You can do the exercise you do, if you can't do much walking then don't stress, I walk because I can and don't have any medical issues. YOu are doing a great job just the way youa re going :D
