Endurance Test 2011 Thread
OSoSwift replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep it is hard to organise accomodation for all of us AND the two dogs. I am determined!! We managed to do our biking between showers of rain so I was quite pleased about that! Didn't avoid the wind, but hey can't have everything. -
The dog may have been on lead, but been at the end of a long lead and the child may have been on the otehr side of the footpath and the dog could reach - who knows?? I have seen quite a few dogs "on lead" that were not under very effective control. I don't think they have a very good chnace of finding the dog and I hope the child is not too traumatised

Which ET are you entering??? The GSDA of WA It is out only ET trial we have now. So if I miss this one I will have to wait a year to do it again so I am trying hard!!! -
Other people take their children so you are more than welcome to take yours. I am the only one that shows from here, but friends of mine trial their dogs so we all get together and help each other out. You are more than welcome to come down to dog training on a Saturday from 1pm and catch up with us there, we could also so a bit of show training with you if you would like?? It is held on a small oval between the netball courts and Ports football oval. The next shows/trials in Albany are in November. We are all planning on going

What sort of dry food is he getting?? If you find the poo after the fact you can't tell him off as he has no idea why he is being told off. The other thing is also to confine him to a much smaller ( more easily cleanable) area. Either put him in a crate, use baby gates etc Does he go to the toilet when he is put out at night?? does someone go with him???

It was very weird, the guy walked in the front and went oh can I see a vet my dog just swallowed a ball. The dogs was trying to swallow a bit. and I went what down his throat, He said yep, it's down his throat and I can't see it. I admit I froze for a second, went oh crap and bolted to get a vet and rushed the dog out the back. He got put on the exam table and then got a bit stressed and the ball went down and it was all hands on deck!!! Have only seen it once and I hope I never see it again!!! Hmm not sure on the ball front as mine are not power chewers, but will keep my ear out

I have heard of a Shepherd that got one stuck length ways down his throat he managed to get enough hair because of the small hole. He needed a very quick gas GA and a pair of pliers attached to the ball to get it out, he was very lucky. Have also seen a Lab bit a blockage sized piece out of the black extra large Kongs. I am a bit wary of them as well. I have also seen a skinned tennis ball lodged down a GSD throat, how it hadn't blocked his air off I'll never know, he got stressed at the vet and struggled, the ball went down cut his air off and very quick action on the vets behalf got it out so he could get air and he also survived. I worry about tennis balls as well with any sized dog. Oh by the way your girl is just gorgeous :D

Oh and we managed to escape for a night with no kids!!! Usually leave around 5 am Saturday and get back by around 4 to 7 pm Sunday depending on how we go on the sunday. We are usually very tired but have had a great time

I was told not to feed dry food unless soaked and also do not feed any for 6 weeks after surgery. Mine got boiled chicken and rice starting with a tablespoon full and working up from there.

How exciting I am about to send my entries off next week. Still trying to find accomodation for all of us, hopefully we can get that sorted very soon. -
A lady I got onto BH has a young very energetic Shepherd she has tried on a few different types of Food without much success. She was always very lean dispite eating vast quantities of food. She has been on Black Hawk for a month or so, has put on weight and is looking fantastic. The owner is very pleased as it is vastly cheaper than what she was feeding her and she is actually putting on much needed weight :D

Oh bad Luck Mas. Hopefully I will get to see you in June, still trying to pin down some accomodation!

Head bobbing can sometimes be a sign of Liver issues as well as can head pressing. They can do it for no apparent reason as well. If it was a one off then it may have been excitement????? don't know??
-
CAn someone tell me about the black hawk cat food please - I know this is a dog forum, but just a quick run down about it, I haven't tried it as yet but am very interested.

No but I have had a Dobe with it 3 times. She ended up only being able to tolerate one food which was a dry food, so I soaked it prior to feeding. I was told to give no more than 3 cups of food at any meal - I gave a maximum of 2. She was not exercised for one hour before feeding and for 2 hours after. I fed her from a bowl at mid chest height, but I have been told that is not recommended now. She was a gulper and soaking her food and leaving a little more water helped slow her down. Her first case of GVD we have no idea what caused that she was crated from 10pm and woke me up at 5am, withing 15 minutes she was huge and in surgery. She had the tacking surgery. Her second time she was at the breeders and the door was not shut properly and she got into the laundry with a big bin of food and scoffed herself stupid. The third time she ate dry lupins which of course swelled and blocked everything up. Her last surgery was when she was 7 and a half, she lived until not quite 12 and died due to a heart problem.

And that matters because??????? It doesn't. Feed the food or don't - easy. One way of looking at it is he does make the food as he is a part owner of the Black Hawk company and he formulated it, however if it isn't actually made at his factory then you could say he doesn't. Two ways of looking at the same thing really. I like another poster have no idea exactly where most other dry foods are made so honestly, I really don't see that it matters. I also look forward to seeing what the new ranges/flavours may be and I hope that Sherel does come back to this thread. Anyone PMing and/or emailing nasty stuff - get a life!

And this is exactly how something like this could and will no doubt be used maliciously. There are no doubt those who would think nothing of doing exactly the same thing to a breeders dogs. Yes, I was thinking the exact same thing Yep and this is exactly why I was thinking holy crap I really hope that doesn't become available. What stops someone from giving it say to any dog impounded?? Yes there may be some who should have it, but what happens if someone breeding bitch or shodog happens to get impounded. Not sure I like this idea at all. There are people that are malicious and twisted enough to give this to someones show/breeding animals. People have had their dogs let out at shows and baited in their own trailers. This would be just something else that could be used for the wrong purposes.

I am also VERY interested in this test and the results. Is there a link anyone could give me to read up on this please -
Yay CC - Well done, what are you going to be doing?? Hope all you flooded DOLers dry out okay, what a pain in the backside!! RS - Glad to hear about Ruby's visit. I would also be more inclined to be cautious.
-
Oh and I did wear a pouch sometimes, but I buy yoga type pants with pockets in specifically to train in. Nothing like a nice greasy pocket!! I am yet to put a whole sardine in mine like Bedazzled has though --ewww

I would be wary off to much polony cabbanossi etc due to the high salt content. You can also get a whole live and either boil it or microwave it (smells absolutely disgusting!) and then chop it into little pieces and spread out on a tray in the oven just to dry it a little and stop it being crumbly. I also use fourlegs roll cut up, chunkers and left over meat cut into very small cubes. All mixed together
