Those With Your Own Agility Set Up
OSoSwift replied to J...'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have 5 acres around the house and only use a small portion of it. Heaps of room. An acre would be good I think. ETA including the house -
My thing is I find it extremely irresponsible to say that you can guarentee something about dogs and people you have never met, there are no guarentees in dogs or life for that matter. With some dogs you can exercise them all you like, but it just makes them fitter to do naughty stuff for longer. Exercise alone will not stop or solve all behavioural or training issues in the average dog.

I am not sure how you can read loathing in a post, but each to their own. I think you are wrong, but that is also my opinion not yours which you are of course, you are allowed to have.

Really you guarentee it???? How wonderful! Tell that to the people who had litter mate Border Collies. One had a very large rip in his throat stitched back together at 11weeks. They very fine with other dogs and people, just not with each other. One had to be re-homed for his own safety. Yes it can be done and yes breed does play a part, but it needs to be very seriously before going ahead and buying litter mates. In this instance the breed is a reasonably mellow one and the owner does have experience, but you still have the seperation issues to consider and training issues etc. If both of the owners are dog savy and train a dog each then that will help. I have however, seen amany issues between litter siblings and in nearly all cases one has to be rehomed. hahaha that is quite amusing, full of sarcasm and loathing - sarcasm yes, loathing - ummm right I do not know you so how can I loath you. I fail to see how you can guarentee something that you have no idea about. These puppies may just not have the temperments to live togethr and even if people do all the right things it just may not work. I am sorry but you cannot guarentee even IF they follow what you have advised. Personally I have males here that are no issue - not litter siblings, and have had bitches together that hated one another over time, not litter siblings, not the same age. They were fine with any other dog I brought onto the property but not each other. You just cannot guarentee htere will be no issue. Seeing as they are CCR and living with dog savy people I to believe in this particular instance there will most likely not be a problem, but I certainly wouldn't guarentee it.

Personally I would not take on two pups from a litter and I would not sell litter siblings to the average person. It take a lot more work and you need to work very hard to make sure seperation anxiety issues do not crop up. ALso you need to train them seperately and interact with them seperately to try and ensure that they value you more than the other dog - but sometimes nomatter how hard you try they value the other dogs company more than yours. They can get to maturity and then start fighting, what are you going to do if that happens?? Yes it can happen with two dogs from different litters but is far more likely to happen with litter siblings. Get one puppy, train it then get another puppy 12 to 18 months down the track. You will still have to make sure they are used to being seperate etc but it will be much easier.

How rude are Melbourne Uni!!! Glad you have found somewhere else to get them done at least then you can get answers for each of your babies. Lots of hugs and Whippet kisses to you all

I generally teach things like drops etc with a hands off approach. That does not mean my dogs are not handled. From the day they come home they are used with having eyes, ears, mouths looked in and handled, being gently rolled over and having tummy, paws etc looked at and handled, also tails and having legs picked up (like a horse) and examined. Just because you train hands off does not mean a dog isn't or doesn't need to be used to being handled. I don't place them in position, but I do get them to do what it is I am asking for. My dogs have alway been trained like this and they are not dogs that are not likely to do as you ask, as long as they have been taught correctly and understand, they will do it. If they don't, I know it is because they don't understand what I am trying to get them to do. If I had less compliant dogs then I may guide them - don't know, but guiding is not necessarily forcing the issues either.

Lewis has it at the moment, it was a long hard decision to make but in the end it came down to needing it to control a medical issue. He got it in August and I am hoping like hell it does not last 2 years as I only found that out AFTER I got it done and if I had of known would only have gone for the 6 month one. It is rather stressing me out actually. Even thought about getting any of the implant that was left surgically removed! He will attempt to mate an in season bitch, doesn't tend to be as interested pre-season as he was, but on the day she was standing yep, he was onto it in a flash. Musculature wise I don't see any changes, he was mature when implanted His testicles are around a third of what they were, and I have had one judge not like them in them show ring, but I knew that was a potential risk, the judge the next day didn't care. I did not use it for behavior managment as he normally does not have any behaviour that requires modification so in that respect he is the same as normal

Thank you for that info Staranais, very interesting. I agree bug them for your results - you need to know and now!

Oh no what an awful time for you. Is there a test for Haemaphilia A?? I would not send any puppies out until you know wether or not they have a clotting issue. I am quite sure even though the people are waiting on their babies they would be more than happy if their breeder is not willing to send them a puppy that could a serious issue. How very sad for the babies you have lost. Big hugs to you, I ma sure you will need every hug you can get. Is it just one of those things or is there a breed predisposition? I am thinking for me personally I would be looking at euthanaisa for a dog with this sort of issue. They would never have a normal life and for an active breed they would not be able to run and tumble and play as they would feel the need to. If he misjudges and runs into a gate way or door frame he could end up in a serious medical condition and in a lot of pain. Such an awful time and some very very hard decisions for you

I totally agree. Especially after seeing the aftermath of two large dogs on healthy horses over 15hh!!!!

I would think if they had fed on the body they wouldn't have torn her throat out as there would have been no need. There was a small pony down here severly attacked by one large breed. I certainly do think a large breed single dog could kill and elderly pony, especially on that had been unwell. That poor poor lady. She will never get that image out of her head now.

I really liked it when there were trials and shows in Kal, you could drive up on a Saturday morning and back on a Sunday afternoon easily. Oh well I don't think they are going to bring them back soon -

hahaha would flying Esperance to Darwin count??? NOt driving but still a long way for a dog show - or two!! -
He is very cute, where abouts did he come from?? I miss my Dober girls
-
I would feed neither, however maybe feed both for a little while - it is best to keep them on the same food for at least a few weeks, then decide which one you think is best. I am guessing the dogs are the same breed??? It may come down to the fact they are both much the same as in both the puppies seem to do well, then maybe you could chose the one that is easiest to source or the cheaper of the two.

Hi OsoSwift, I know that presently there is only one ET in WA. My friend Jo Washington-King in WA, who has one of my Vizslas, is in the process of establishing and affiliating the Hungarian Vizsla Club of WA. She believes this will occur next year, and one of the planned events is an ET! So then there will be two ET's in WA. M That is great news Now if only they got the ET going back in Kalgoorlie - that is only an 800km round trip and easily done -
Hope ozjen sees this post - she's got a ripper of a story about her babble balls out to "get" her  I was thinking exactly the same thing !!!

I am so excited that some of us are going to be doing the ET very soon :D Fingers and paws crossed for all Abbiestar, that is one of the reasons I so want us to get it right the first time, we have to wait a full 12 months for another try! -
Where they will stand in a corner or against a wall and drop their nose and press their head against the wall. They can do continuous small presses or longer or single ones where they stand for ages with their head against something. It is very odd to see and is quite often seen when there are lots of toxins circulating in the blood stream of a very unwell dog.

Fantastic news and so glad your girl is home.
