I am an animal lover that spans across many species, although I do have a particular love of dogs. I have dogs, cat (soon to be two ) Guinea Pigs, Alpaca, retired Horse and one learning to be a cow horse, sheep and cattle (yes I have pet ones) I tend to love an animal for that animal. I love the companionship that dogs give me and all the training and time I have with my dogs. I love the cat for being a little independant but give great cuddles - but not allt he time. I love the horses because they are majestic and I love riding. I love the cow because she comes running when you call ehr and loves rubs and proudly show you her new baby when she has one. I love the sheep because they come running up have a pat then are happy by themselves. I LOVE love my Alpaca because he loves cuddles follow you everwhere and calls to when he sees you (also getting another Alpaca) Whilst I do not like venomous snakes I do wish to have a python in the future. My house is being extended evetually and the plans involve a terrarium built into the wall. Oh and I would like Green tree frogs but would probably never actually own any. I would love a Mini Donkey and a Mini pony. I guess I like lots of different animals for who they are what they do and how they intereact with me in so many different ways. I don't hate any animal and can appreciate most (well not flies and mozzies!) I cried when I hit and killed a wild duck with my car, I nearly cried when I found a Bobtail someone had run over and injured but he was still alive. All the frogs found in our shed are carefully moved if required or left alone.

Private Conformation Trainers Wgtn? Advice?
OSoSwift replied to Maddy27's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy when I got him did not like to stack, would stack but couldn't hold it and was dropping his wither. Two sessions of Bowen (which is maintained from time to time) and he now stacks beautifuly and holds it indefinately. He also did not free stack well when cruising around, he would also drop his wither and A-frame a little. I would get her back checked and then try stacking her on a very grippy surface and in the beginning reward after only a few seconds of holding it then work at it being longer. -
Happy birthday for yesterday Bedazzled :D

Well my boy got it older so a bit different, but he got diagnosesd on the same day I had my 8 and a half year old Dobe put down with dilated cardio myopathy. The reason being I had a stethescope and had listened to his heart to compare hers to and thought I must have no idea what I was listening for as they sounded very similar. He had slowed down but we just thought he had finally grown up - he was 10. I got asked if he had coughed and said no-just to hear him cough! He was graded a 2 to a 2 and a half last I was told was a 3 and a half, no we just go yeh it's crap and don't bother with a grading while he is happy and his medication is working. As I said before he is 14 and has spinal and other joint arthritis so his very slow ways these days I think are more due to that than his heart - might be wrong though.. His brother was diagnosed with a heart probelm at 10 weeks and was euthed

Animal Welfare Groups Say Australian Dogs Are Being 'sold Into Mis
OSoSwift replied to SwaY's topic in In The News
Terrible, but I do know of a lady living in Hawaii that has said there are heaps of Aussie puppies sent over there, and quite a few Aussie Whippets have been sent over there as well as there is no quarantine for Australian puppies. So very sad. -
My old dog is a grade 4 and without medication wouldn't survive. He has been on medication for 4 years and is going okay but also has spinal issues so it is hard to say exactly which is slowing him down. Treating him is very expensive and as such we have chosen not to add another medication to his daily lot as even though it would help his symptoms he is going well without it and it would add another $2 per day to the medication he already has.

mIne are really good and never try and take food, even out of the kids hands. They will however steal any food they can off the table or bench if I leave the room! If they get off their bed while we are having tea they get kicked outside, Needless to say they picked that up pretty quickly!

Yes I am in complete agreement here. A sorry situation but I can't see a good outcome. Were you aware the pup had a murmur when you bought it? I was going to say the same thing. You may upset your son initially, but can then buy a puppy without a heart murmer when so young. That way your son and the puppy can have a normally healthy relationship into old age instead of starting well behind the 8 ball. I would return the puppy for a full refund.

Opinions On Experience Before Breeding Dogs
OSoSwift replied to tobie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Buddy I am thinking that may be my husband when the time arrives! Luckily I have no issue with whelpings and have whelped litters for other people as well as revived puppies after Caesars etc. If it was just him I think running around and flapping would be the most likely senario! -
A person is allowed to own an entire bitch and have her in season in their backyard. In an ideal world no dogs would get in to mate her, but that will never happen. If a male gets into a bitches backyard they are at fault and I would be sending them to the pound rather quickly. I have entire dogs of both sexes and we manage with very little worries apart from the fact they cannot both be on my lap at once so someone is always moaning they are missing out. When in the dog runs mine are kept beside each other and they never go off off thier food, bark, whinge or carry on they are reasonably the same as normal. My male is rather highly sexed as in give him a second! and well.........but he never humps unless a bitch is in season or has any issues. I would suggest if he gets that worried he should be desexed, which of course won't help in this instance but should in the long run.

I have horses and never had an issue. I believe the C7 contained Corona and Lepto?? If Lepto is an issue yeah maybe you need it but from what I have heard the corona part doesn't fully cover them anyway and they can still get corona?? MIght be wrong though.

OSoSwift replied to **Super_Dogs**'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Okay just did a quote with Petplan for a Whippet and I noticed their cover for the budget plan has gone from $9000 to $10000 and it came back at $491 if paid yearly. -

That seems cheap! It is only about $35 a month. How many dogs? It seems the policies have gone up alot recently - like everything I suppose. I have two dogs insured, both Whippets and that was the amount when I paid them in January and last October. It may have gone up in the mean time so my next renewal may be more. It did go from $385 to $415 at one stage. Just checked it was $415.69 exactly -

I have the Budget plan (with PetPlan) with $100 excess and for my WHippets is $415 per year or close to anyway. -
Gee Amypie, that didn't take much It's all good about the postage I am used to it
-
Hmmm possibly me. If you need the numbers... it's like charity work, helping out... so it's a good thing Now we just need to recruit 4 more suckers buyers :D I would like one
-
I'm kind of not making them anymore They were a bit of a PITA to make! But if you want some, I will make an exception for you! Postage will be quite dear though, so it could be cheaper for you to purchase some down there? ah no worries at all RS I can source some locally. Forgot to say I met your sister, her husband and son and they were all lovely, that is one cute nephew you have there

Sorry but the length of his ribs impacting his ability to digest is a load of rubbish. If he is deformed then he shouldn't be an assitance dog and shouldn't be working. Unless you are a similar bodyweight to him you shouldn't not be using him to haul yourself around. Yes he should have smaller meals if he has a barrel chest as huge meals can potential increase the risk of bloat. Don't use that as an excuse to underfeed him. I have had two Dobes, one required a lot of food but she was always in perfect condition and never had bloat. The other did bloat but amazingly afterwards I managed to feed her an adequate diet and she too was in perfect condition. The dog needs feeding a correct diet and should be immediately pulled from working as your assistance dog. If you are continuing to make him work in the condition you are you should be charged

Lovely girl RS I am quite used to being draped on, good in winter as I hate the cold - not so good in summer!
