Tell Me Why Cooked Bones Are Bad!
OSoSwift replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cooked bones splinter far more than raw bones, they are harder and sharper than raw bones. They tend to get harder poops than if they have raw bones, and combine that with pieces of hard cooked bones and you have concrete spikey poos. They do set harder and I am yet to see a dog who have a blockage of hard compacted poo from raw bones but I have seen many from cooked bones. And I have seen many many many dogs end up very constipated and needing GA's and clean outs from cooked bones and only a very small number from raw bones. I have seen more broken teeth from cooked than raw bones. Yes I have seen broken teeth from raw bones, but many more from cooked bones. -
I will remember that LL. That will come in very handy in the future. I am happy to ferry dogs to planes etc.

I have had Dobes and personally would have a bitch, me and male Dobes do not get along very well I had two Dobe bitches, neitehr bit anybody , one even had a 2 yo bite her hard on her lip and leave teeth marks and she still didn't retaliate. I have never owned a GSD so can't comment on those. Dobes do leave some short hairs around but nowhere near the amount of hair a Shepherd loses

I believe when people saw they were in the pound they did go and get them. Not sure who or how appropriate the homes were, this was down in Esperance though, so not sure if you have carers down here?

Advice For A Neighbour About Problems With Breeding
OSoSwift replied to Boronia's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hmm there is a really good link on here somewhere about potential breeding issues like - your bitch could potentially die, all your puppies ccould die and you will still have the huge caesar bill to pay. hmmmm have to see if I can find it.......................... -
Thinking of you at this time Emery. I am so very sorry Emery. He will always have a special place in your heart and he will take a little bit with him. What you are doing you are doing because he is so special. Will be thinking of you all tomorrow

Just recently on out local buy trade sell page there was an ad for two puppies free to good home, multi working dog type cross. After a few weeks they put that the puppies were now in the pound as they had no choice, they couldn't find homes for them so had no choice. It was very difficult for me not to go off at them. Yes they had many choices, not to breed in the first place, keep them until they found homes, or euth them themselves. At no time did they feel that they should do that, oh I couldn't put them down, so I will give them to the pound. We do have very good rangers here int he fact they will keep them longer and try very hard to find them homes, but how bloody irresponsible are people. Clean up your own bloody mess!

I cannot for the world of me understand that people find it acceptable for their dogs to "nibble", posture at, growl at or stalk someone elses dog!!!! Nibble for goodness sakes, just him using that word would have annoyed the crap out of me. One "nibble" on my Whippet could mean a decent stitch up!!! I am suprised that was all you said!

Oh really how exciting - I am definately booking cuddles now Not doing November??
-
EIther manage it - as in they are always seperate, or rehome. I had two bitches together and one day it all rather exploded and for the next four years they were in muzzles if together with very firm control. Having to live that way was VERY stressful as letting one out accidentaly when the other was out would have been a disaster, and having only one person in the house allowed to move them around etc. This is one reason why I recommend people do not get litter siblings, but also match their dogs carefully.
-
so bloody frustrating isn't it - it isn't hard people keep your dogs under control - what part of that is so ahrd for these morons to understand?? Glad Honey is okay and Danois, hope your boy continues not caring about otehr dogs, even if stupid people allow theirs to harass him. It's just a nibble - for goodness sakes!

Your girl is gorgeous RV :D

For the general Joe Public I recommend 6 month old desexing -not younger, at the earliest 5 months. If I knew the person could manage and entire bitch for example and not have an unplanned pregnancy I would recommend on the age appropriate to the breed. Down here we see many unplanned litters from first heats, that is more of an issue than early desexing.

On that - COI's that is - what is considered good, bad, close not close etc?? I would consider anything after around the 4rd generation as linebreeding, but that is just going off what I have been told over the years.

I thought it would be further than that? Crazy How far away from Perth are you again? Coming up for any shows / trials soon? I missed you and the Whippies at the last ones because I was away We are 750kms from Perth I think it is around 1500kms from us to Kalbarri via Perth, so I was guessing at the 1300kms I am going to do Albany in November and Feb, then I might choose something next year, maybe incorporating a show as well?? Will see how I am travelling. So much organisation to get away these days
-
Geraldton is close to Kalbarri(my parents live there and I love it for holidays) and to me it is a bit the big smoke as well, lots of shops etc we don't have. All towns/cities have areas to avoid but Geraldton has some great areas as well. Wish I lived closer as they ahve some great show and trial weekends, unfortunately 1300kms or so is a bit to far to drive

RSG - could I please have them emailed to me??

I tried it with my Whippet bitch, she has no issues with difestion or food, just heard it was good. She ended up with the worst gas, often, and really stinky and slighty sloppy poo's. Took her off it onto her previous diet and had no issues. Now changed the type of dry food and still no issues. I wouldn't try it again.

Hope you get some ideas after he has been to the vet. If Zinc supplemetation is not working and he is feeling the cold, then I would definately go the full blood profile and the thyroid panel. When your thyroid is a little low you do really feel the cold

What Does The Broncishield Cover
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you Crisovar :D -
My dogs are due for their kennel cough vaccines and I have been told that they will be getting the Broncishield 3. I have only known of two components of Kennel cough to be vaccinated against so what is the third?
