  1. Personally I think he's paying service to the old "locking jaw" myth. Yep probably. They may have more muscle than many dogs but their jaw is the same.
  2. I think that mnay times people really just don't see nay potential warning signs. I remember being at work and some people came in with a Rotti, 5yo entire male. I accidentally caught his eye and he launched at the desk. The bloke was like oh he's never normally like that. We had to keep him in and it was a really game of never catch his eye, get a muzzle on etc as he was seeking eye contact as an excuse to go off. When we delved a little deeper, this dog was trusted implicitally. They had two young kids who played with him in the back yard, he was in the house etc. The reason, he had never diciplined them was they never asked him to do anything. He went where he wanted in the house/yard when he wanted, he slept where he wanted, he got walked but was never asked to sit or drop, or if they did and he didn't they never followed it up. We had real concerns as I am quite sure if one day one of the kids told him to do something or made him move and he didn't want to he may well have bitten. The owners would have said well he has never been aggressive and we have no idea what happened it came out of the blue. In reality it was there as plain as could be for the person with some canine knowledge to see exactly what the potential was. When it was attempted to be discussed with them they laughed and said never he would never do that. They were just extremely lucky.
  3. If I can do it I am quite sure you can. The knees were a bit sore and achy but other than that we were all good
  4. My Whippets recall exceptionally well but have been trained for it from 8 weeks and are still higly reinforced for it. Having said that I would not let them do off lead zoomies at a park that was not fenced, they cover an amazing amount of ground in a very short time. My Whippets would not like the style of play I have seen from Shepherds. A frined has a smaller Shepherd bitch and a rather large male GAP greyhound and they get on really well.
  5. Brilliant just brilliant. I remember reading your other posts with saddness. Great to hear.
  6. Very interesting update. I hope Mandela keeps improving. I use BH and have found it works wonders for my old Allergy boy.
  7. Thank you - I have shared and hope people read it. I had a Rotti put down at three with horrendous elbows so I can feel part of your pain.
  8. Nek may I share Diesels site on facebook and a link on my website??
  9. I wouldn't worry to much about that trainer, if you would liket o talk to anotehr trainer find someone else. PUrdie - my dad always said the same, however he did actually train them alot, just not in the formal sense. They were not allowed to jump up, push through doors, they had to be calm in the house, come when called, not nick off (on a farm), not steal of beg food. So while they were not formally trained they were trained all the time and were fantastic dogs that were well mannered.
  10. Hmmmm not really sure My dry food I buy in large bulk, but I guess it would last the three dogs a good month if not 6 weeks I grow my own meat so gon't have to buy bones and occassionally buy some roo or chicken Over a month Dry food $85 meat etc $12 Old dogs medication $120 Flea stuff etc $8 toys - haven't bought any for a while so around $225. Most of that is the old boys medication though. Oh and the dogs (2 of them) got a vaccination, and the month before the old boy cost us $800 when he was off colour and dehydrated!! ......................don't think I wanted to work that out!
  11. Too true, I've just had someone telling me that SBT and APBT are basically the same breed Had someone on here argue exactly that same thing - however that APBT, AM Staff and STafford were all the same breed. Hope the truth is found soon. Poor family
  12. hahahaha well does sound like she was young then :D It really depresses me when I see what to me looks like a 12 yo driving a car and I think they look so much younger than me - then I remember I ain't in my 20's anymore!!
  13. I think that RV then I find out they are like 16 or something, then I just feel old!
  14. Oh no, that is awful I hope you were not badly bittena nd the said dog has been banned. That will not help her for a little while but making sure you don't get worried about other dogs and stay confident will help her a lot. My Dobe used to look at me like I had three heads because I used to get so nervous in the trial ring, I find I don't get so worried with the Whippets for some reason - maybe because I have two and don't have the time?
  15. My name is Ososwift and I also have a crate addiction. I have three dogs and 6 crates!!!!!
  16. Oh I am sure they are lovely - I was more thinking along the lines of Why would you!!! Hope they find wonderful homes and also hope the pharoah bitch does as well.
  17. MAybe find a Pharaoh breeder and tell them. They may know of someone who does rescue or breeders may be able to nut out where she is from. Very concerning about the Pharaoh cross Afghans below her!

  20. Yep. Our guys are in enclosed runs with a concrete floor when we are away, not even a whippet is going to break out of that. You can responsibly keep sighthounds in the countryside, heaps of people do it. Yep mine too. They have never escaped or killed chooks or lambs or anything. When you have a dog like a Whippet and many others you need to forsee any potential issues and manage them appropriately. My Whippets have never escaped or harrassed anything and we have lambs that are under a week old right around the house.
  21. OUr local club wants to look into this as well. We do not hold sanctioned trials but would like to do our own club trials etc so people can go away and compete. We have all the signs and people that are interested but have no idea where to start. I said that you giys are all brilliant so would be able to help me So Help!! Please, were do I start? where can I find some rules or something to get us started in the right direction ??
  22. awww how gorgeous are all the new babies ........makes me puppy clucky :D
  23. My dogs don't wear collars either and would most likely look very scared and worried if they got lost.
  24. I have seen many dogs with this condition. Many went down over time and it can take some time. Had one dog though that, goodness knows what he did, but he snapped a large piece off and that had to be removed. Was fine after a while - and I am talking a good few months.
