There is a thread in General on how to make the poor mans hydro. I am going to do this in the near future. Much cheaper than buying a hydro. I have the bath and the hot and cold water, just need the submersible pump from Bunnings

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant

I know I am stressing about something I have no control over and shouldn't be stressing over, but as his testicles have got only marginally bigger I am worried.............. -

Because I am still freaking about it lasting for 2 years as I want to mate him around January/February. Because I used the 12 month one his fertitlity may not return in time ( assuming he is not one of the 1% who never get it back ) If I ahd of used the 6 month one that then lasted for 9 to 12 months we would be right. -

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was told four weeks and I would have to say I think that was about right. Rommi came into season at around 3 and a half weeks after the implant and although he was interested he was no where near as interested as prior to the implant ( until she was standing then he would have happily obliged, but was the same 10 months down the track) His testicles shrunk fairly quickly as well and maybe shrunk until 6 weeks?? Oh and he certainly wasn't any lazier - much the same as normal which is pretty active for a Whippet. -

No he still worked just as well and had the same food drive as normal, it was just at meal time. I also found it a little harder to get as much as he needed into him while training for the ET. I had to feed him twice daily instead of the normal once daily then a chew of some sort in the morning. His temperment didn't appear to change. He did mark less but was still trying to mate my bitch when she was in season. -
**warning** To All Breeders Who Use The Limited Register
OSoSwift replied to Yukan's topic in Breeders Community
It seems Dogs Qld always do their own thing whether its right or wrong and dont care. They transferred a dog out of my name as co owner and into other co owners name only a number of years ago - without my signature or knowledge and I could do nothing about it. That is terrible! -
   I'm with you on that one!!!

I train mine their normal prancy heeling but they switch to show gaiting. I change how I hold myself and their gear and if that alone isn't enough I get them gaiting and then throw a piece of food forward, when their head goes straight I click, then they get the treat. After only a few goes they start looking forward incase you throw a treat, then you click treat etc as per normal and they start offering you gaiting looking straight forward and driving forward.

Endurance Test 2011 Thread
OSoSwift replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have no idea how long each leg took, I just rode until I needed to stop. I think it is around 2 hours maybe a bit more with stops. I have also found they need to go more 11kms/hr rather than the 10kms/hr. -
Thank you for results Sway and friends - It is greatly appreciated

Very well done Bedazzled great result :D

Nope at this stage it is just ANKC registered breeders. Anyone know what you have to do to become a registered implanter?

Well I had a really good training day. I got the ALphabet drills book yesterday afternoon and decided to try it out today. It was great adn it made me more aware of my body language after Lewis missing a couple of jumps becasue my body language was not commited to the jump. He did some great run throughs though and looked like a real agility dog. He also was on fire with his heeling and did a great recall. I am soo excited as around 10 weeks ago I trod quite hard on his foot while doing agility and he refuse to do any obstacles and was showing some very strong stress signals. He is now back to happy happy flying dog and I couldn't be happier. Rommi did great obedience as well, did a perfect COP (Novice) and found her recall again. We didn't do jumping with her as although she was not lame she hurt her toe a few days ago. She also had great focus.

SK I had a similar thing happen. I knew about the litter and had seen some photos but had my name down for the next litter around 12 months down the line. Well things changed and a Rommi became available. I really umm and arr'd. I wanted to maek sure I was ready, I really tend to over think things and as I had young kids I was worried about how much exercise a Whippet would need as an adult (read - very very little as long as your lounge is comfy, they are happy) I tortured myself for 2 weeks and it came to decision time. I said yes, then very nearly said no, but eventually went yet this is it. Puppy arrived within two weeks and I was like oh crap I haven't had time to go shopping!!!! I felt a bit unprepared as I normally have things very organised and know before the litter is concieved that I want one, then make sure there is a pup for me etc. Usually me getting a puppy is a good 6 to 12 month long exercise. Getting a pup 2 weeks after saying yes really put me in a little bit of a spin. When I got Lewis I met him and he arrived a week later and we had no plans of a second dog for another couple of years. So glad we got him and as he was 8 months old it wasn't such a holy crap momnet - oh and the kids were older by then!

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant

Oh thanks guys :D I didn't know if anyone was reading but thought I would write it down so that people may have a bit of a reference if they were looking at info as I had some, but not a whole load of facts before having to give it to my boy. Out of interest Lewis is quite soft in personality. He had the implant at 14 months so I am waiting to see if he will go back to his 14mo personality or be more of a "male" so to speak. He is still the brilliant quiet little house dog to live with that has impeccable manners (except for the odd counter surfing incident) so I am quite sure he will always stay like that. I am wondering if it will make his temperment a little harder as such (still soft on the scale of dog personalilities though). It wouldn't be a bad thing if it is as it then may not take me 10 weeks to get him past me stepping on his foot in agility and refusing to work or go near the equipment until we did lots of training! Will keep updating then if people are taking an interest :D -

Another update - just incase anyone was wondering :D Lewis's implant was due to "wear off" at the beginning of August, but didn't appear to. I was slightly stressed about this but nothing I can do. By the end of August he was starting to mark his territory more. Since then he has been marking his territory more and not putting up with Rommi pushing him around. This culminated in a bit of an altercation (she can be a pushy bitch when she wants to be)that ended in a puncture wound or two and a bit of a limp, but all is good since then and the pack dynamics changed over night. She no longer pushes him for the hell of it, but he will occassionally allow her to take his toy. His testicles are getting a little bigger but not near where they were, hope they hurry up!! One thing I have noticed is he seems to be eating better than he was on the implant. Before he would eat, but it was bits and pieces unless he was in the dog run or the crate and locked in with the food. Now he will happily be given his tea (dogs are fed either side of a glass door) eats steadily and quite often finishes before Rommi which he has never done in the 12 months on the Suprelorin. It may be a coincidence but I guess time will tell. He also seems to have started bulking up a little more in his muscle but not a huge amount, seems just a little "thicker" so to speak. Fingers crossed his testicles get back to normal soon and the implant is a distant memory and the condition that caused it to begin with does not repeat it's self in the future. -
SOrry to hear his doagnosis. Hopefully managing his diet etc helps and he lives a happy, long and trouble free life until he is very old.

So very sorry to hear about your sudden loss of Tye. RIP Tye, running at the rainbow bridge

Sorry to hear about your cat CC and I hope a lovely home can be found very soon. Very sorry you don't know what Lincoln is up to RV - must be hard MG hope lil Gibbs is all better very soon. I ahve found with the HWips at least, thye scream more when they think they have done somethign rather than when they actually have. Just this afternoon, Lewis and Rommi were chasing a ball, Lewis dropped his head to pick it up, missed his footing and end for ended twice, hit the ground, re-oriented himself then kept running Sometimes he will nearly hit smething or have a slight almost fall and yell like a mummies girls blouse :D Love that lil fella
