For me it is the costs involved and the time, I have a young family and other commitments. I have fairly vast distances to travel for a small country show and even longer ones for a Perth show. We used to have more country show near me but unfortunately they are no longer, if they were I would do more I have had snide comments and down right nasty people have a go at me, but as far as I am concerned it is their issue not mine. I go have fun don't "expect" anything and go home tired and happy having spent a weekend with my dogs and catching up with old friends. I also enjoy my dog sports and for me if my bitch gets to an age where I think desexing will be of benefit or there is an issue I would happily desex and continue do just the dogs sports (or neuter but I am yet to see one offered in the very few shows I have been to). Yeh there is Face Judging, yeh there is bitchyness but I let it wash over me. I do get annoyed with bad sportsmanship though. Just makes me think a lot less of the person and less likely to ever recommend them to a potential puppy purchaser. I am certainly not in it for sheep stations or chasing points, live too far away for that

Done Can I put a link on my Facebook page to the survey??

I know some Bunnings warehouses have kennel runs but not sure if they do in Perth or how big they are. Also there are Vebo (I think they advertise up the top) Linky - http://www.vebopet.com.au/ Not sure what freight would cost though. Also see some steel fabrication type places, they will be able to make it to your exact specifications

Wantsapuppy. Every situation is different. I am an experienced dog owner of large breeds - and guarding breeds, and I have had them around children. My kids have been going to PPS since before they were born, know not to pick puppies up and are always supervised. I had a breeder of a different breed to what I have now, tell me in no uncertain terms she didn't care what my experience was she would not sell me a puppy (of a smaller breed) as my kids were under 10. It didn't matter what I said, it was no. I came across my Whippet breeder who herself had a young child and she was happy to sell me a puppy. The puppy was brought up well with very close supervision. I had a just over 2yo and a 5 month old baby. They are inside dogs and my children were well supervised and disiplined as required as well as having a puppy pen set up when I had to tend to something and couldn't watch the puppy/child. Puppy got lots of training and is trained/trialled in Obedience, Agility and Jumpers and shown on occasion. My kids are now 6 and 4, we now have two and the dogs are great with the kids, the kids are great with the dogs. Find the right breeder, pick the right pup (not full on) put the time in and it will work. Don't have the time, the right pup and no back up and it could be a disaster.

Absolutely because it is fun and if we stuff up, who cares call it something else

A turkey neck make him ever so sick, he dropped heaps of weight and looked terrible. He now refuses to eat turkey necks, or chicken frames. A lamb flap also made him very sick. Too much fat I think?? I told him he is only a pretend dog if he can't eat bones - especially when it is all home grown stuff and cheap

MG you will be fine, watch a class or two before so you get an idea of what they are after and tell the steward you have never done it before and they will help you. We have no handling classes here so we watched then entered. Yep we made some mistakes but no-one cared

One of mine has a very hard time with fat and raw bones/meat. Cooked meat is fine - obviously he has never had cooked bones. He has ended up at the vets twice really unwell after having bones and had to be placed on antibiotics. Not from meat being off (as it wasn't) but also the vet said the bug he had was not one from off meat. I fed them some beef rib bones the other day - which he normally tolerates well- and he had a runny tummy for 4 days. He also does not tolerate any fat on his raw bones, he starts vomiting and runny poops withi hours. I feed tried treats such as Beef Whizzers, dried roo flaps, tendons, pig ears etc. I do feed raw bones but beef bones with no fat pretty much. The rest of their diet is dry, sometimes dog roll, sardines, cottage cheese, yoghurt, some Natures Gift tinned food and some cooked meat. The also have chunkers, sausage, Ziwipeak as training treats

Hey you met RosieFT and I too, but probably didn't realise Booker is so massive already Nawwww RV - I missed you being there! That's great they agreed to show - woohoo! I think I might retire one dog - yesterday after setting up, then running one dog for an hour, then the other dog for an hour, then packing up, I was absolutely stuffed!!! Who needs a personal trainer, just train two dogs in agility I hear you I trained three dogs last week over a couple of hours and dragged equipment in and out and I was a tad tired myself

Great news Mason-Gibbs, yukky water can give them a good case of upset tummy. Sounds liek your puppies all had a blast. BEt they slept well

Yep I got a very impressive and wonderful girl for nothing for the same reason. Retired desexed bitch, came to live with me to go running on the beach daily She was a wonderful girl.

Corvus he is sprouting crap, not just things that may put someone off a breed, but crap. Putting people off trying to keep certain dogs in suburbia is not bad in it's self, but typing complete nonsense is a problem. Especially when, as already stated, it may bring those breeds to the attention of people who didn't even need to know they existed.

Farmer Dave you are an idiot, go back to whatever it was you were doing before you started writing (badly) uneducated crap about dog breeds you know nothing about.

A Dogpark Intro To Scottish Deerhounds
OSoSwift replied to Lady Flying Furball's topic in General Dog Discussion
You mean timid. Sorry, couldn't resist. cheeky cheeky. Love them although I must say they are a close second to the Irish Wolfhound for me -
Well I have sent in my entries for Albany and well there was a lot!!! However I am pleased to say that for the same amount of money as last time we are doing lots more. They asked for opinions and then took them on board. Well done AABDC and we will see you next month :D

I think many people forget that Labs are a working dog and a decent sized one at that. Many would never have a border collie or kelpie as they are too full on or need too much exercise but will buy a lab without a second thought to their energy levels, especially when young.

My bitch was mated by her breeder, Xrayed at 59 days from memory, was told she was not pregnant. She flew back to Perth, was shown (placing second at our state speciality) and then drove 750kms home. She had horrendous phantoms so the fact she had massive teats was not unusual. I did have a nagging voice but was told I was being neurotic - now I listen to that voice! Day 63 from last mating she had a singlton puppy naturally while I was asleep, I discovered the puppy after hearing squeaking at 5.30 coming from her crate. Her coat tummy band was chewed but foam matress left intact. Puppy was very average size for a bigger litter. To say I was horrified was an understatement. I was just very thankful she was okay, then had to get puppy raising gear and whelping box together quick smart!!

Ours are generally around $1000 plus depending on time of day, length of surgery etc
