  1. Yes they can however young Whippets are active and good chewers so the puppy would need a lot of stimulation. If pup is going to be left all day then I would think no. But if it had a person home a lot of the time or a canine buddy then yes. A dog in an apartment I think should have two good walks a day (once older) with some free running. Small training sessions with a puppy dotted throughout the day can be good at keeping minds occupied as well. As adults they are calm, sleep lots and are settled. The have no smell and shed very little. SO yes an adult could do it quite happily as long as they had two decent outings a day
  2. Yes, we live in a sandy area so they don't get worn down a lot. I cut them and dremelled them until the dremel died. Need to get another one I wouldn't pay anyone as I have no need to. Our vet charges around $18 I think for a nail trim.
  3. It can do yes. Some can also spin out on it as well. Our old STafford doesn't seem to change much but he is pretty dopey normally
  4. A young girl I know has only just today left hospital after a fall from a horse. She has Broken ribs Broken collar bone, Smashed shoulder that has had to be put back together Broken pelvis. Now she is an apprentice jockey doing track work when it happened, so racehorses can sometimes be rather more amped than your average hack etc. She is very lucky she made it but the horse wasn't trying to half kill her it was an accident.
  5. If that is so, why did a JRT have to have an emergency C section at just over 7 weeks to stop her uterus rupturing because it couldn't fit the rapidly growing GSD X puppies in there?
  6. Poor Louis Hope he feels better very soon.
  7. Great save and well done. I bet their owners were VERY thankful.
  8. Is this available on line or can it only be purchased as a book? Looked on Amazon in case I could get it on my Kindle, but I can't.
  9. Awww look at Clover , what a clever girl for taking them on
  10. Have to say I am loving this thread :D Thanks BB
  11. Well mine are a mixture depending on how long I am going away for. One time I was going for 3 nights and Rommi had come into season. Due to hearing about dogs becoming pregnant after going to the only kennels here, I left her at home in my own dog runs and my SIL came through twice daily. Now I am building my own boarding kennels, fully insulated, aircon'd and heated. Dogs all run seperately (or only with their house mates) So I will be more than happy to leave them there once I have found someone I trust enough to look after the kennels for the odd day here and there when I want to go away
  12. No true at all. Most don't offer lifetime coverage for an illness, but PetPlan does. Some have breed and age specific clauses. Many people here have had issues with some of the cheaper companies when it came to making a claim. Self insurance is great if your dog doesn't have problems for the first 5 years... This "lifetime cover" is a bit deceiving. With PetPlan when your dog gets a certain age (different age for different breeds) you cover reduces to 60 or 80% (can't remember which one). Yes that is true you pay the first 25%-I think???- but they still cover a chronic condition to the total every year while you have cover. Not just up to you limit of cover once.
  13. I have a soft crate ith large pockets. Lots of things go in there and anything else go in a Pedigree bag I won at the Darwin Royal many moons ago.
  14. I would be getting a second opinion. Ideally from a vet you know and trust, but if that is not possible, maybe see if someone can recommend a vet in their area. If they do not want a second opinion then yes get him sent back.
  15. ZZ glad to hear that your puppies are going well. Very sorry to hear about your son. Best wishes for a speedy recovery
  16. While I think the breeder is doing the right thing and this person is being unreasonable I too, would refund the whole lot just so I didn't have to deal with her anymore!!!!
  17. I start the day after they arrive. Some shaping and a little bit of clicker, a couple of minutes at a time is all you need. Great fun and good for bonding - the good side effect is they learn good behaviours as well
  18. I think your mum is being very unreasonable and the breeder has every right to do what she is doing. YOu are right your mum is going to lose more then half of what she paid for the pup if she goes to a lawyer.
  19. Well there you go, I learnt something new :D
  20. All Pet Plans premiums have gone up, it isn't becasue you claimed. I have one I have claimed on and one I haven't and they both went up
  21. I had a Horse euthansed because not only was his increasingly erratic behaviour beoming dangerous to people ( an out of the blue bucking leaping fit that caused muscles torn off a pelvis, damaged sacroilliac and a cracked pelvis and being winded) it was also becoming dangerous to the horse ( flat out galloping around the paddock, tripping doing a complete 360 sommersault at full speed, getting up and keeping going until exhausted). His behaviour became that unpredictable he could not be ridden. The vet believed he may have had a brain tumour Horses do not get off with it, but many are dunped in paddocks and left without appropriate care or feed and they die a lonely death, sometimes years later. For many euthanasia for bad or dangerous behaviour would have been a blessing.
  22. Pet plan are more but they are 100% cover - less your excess (there are a couple of choices) and they pay out on a condition - chronic or not - to you maximum each year. They are more expensive but cover much more.
