Exactly what I was thinking!!!
-
So far a 4 and a half month old and a 6 month old, not sure exactly of the others( I have heard via the grapevine of two others), but under 12 months. I know of a 12mo Whippet in Perth last year that apparently died of parvo but was fully immunised. My got the trienniel vaccine of which the parvo part is a bit different - not sure exactly how- but maybe wondering if maybe it is becasue it is a newer strain????? The local vets has had 6 cases so far that I know of, not sure of vaccination history or anything though
-
Seems we have dogs under 12 months getting Parvo down here even though they are up to date with their vaccinations Very scary. I know of two who have been lost in the last month. This worries me. I just hope because mine are older they will be fine.

Not exactly sure but thay are travelling down to Canine at the moment.

I need help from my West Aussie training pals. I know of someone with a Whippet and she needs help with training. He does not really care for food and can be a bit naughty at home. He is going to training classes but as he is not food motivated he pretty much shuts down. It appears the instructor that they have at the moment is not really sure how to handle him when he does that so they seem to be not getting the help they need. He has a very Novice handler. THey need help to work out a good motivator for him and someone who can help with strateries when he decides to not work. Can anyone help me with realy good classes, clubs that I can pass onto her. I have suggested Kathy Kopellis McLeod and they would love to go to her, but she is a little bit expensive for them at the moment so they would like to try a club setting before going down that road just yet. Thank you once again

Freighting A Dog From Adelaide To Perth
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank you all so muc for your replies and your very generous offer Dxenion. I knew I could count on you guys Unfortunately the dog was not in Adelaide for Dxenion's husband to pick up but is 400kms east of Adelaide. I must say though very generous for him to offer to deviate from his travels to go into Adelaide to pick her up. I have been contacted by Wayrod - how good is that a reply on a Friday night - I am impressed!!! We now have a much better quote of around $350 depending on exact weights, crate sizes ect. I actually didn't know the lady personally apart from our chats on our Perth Whippet Club facebook page so I was frantically trying to get pieces of info together in a really short time frame 5 screens open on the computer and 2 phones going Once again I am very thankful for your help and very speedy replies. We have one very relieved new Whippet mum to be. -
Freighting A Dog From Adelaide To Perth

It is not for me, but the Whippet will be travelling unaccompanied. It is an adult bitch which I imagine would not be over 15kgs - she looks trim in her photos + crate -

How Did Everyone Come Up With Their Dol Names?

Da Wot Wot???? -
I am talking with a person regarding them freighting a Whippet from Adelaide to Perth. Her quote from a company so far is $850. Now even thought he bitch is unaccompanied it seems very expensive. I THINK that quote was from Dogtainers I would love it if someone knows Wayrods email address please Also if you can recommend a freight company that may just be cheaper than that one!!!

There are nasty people everywhere, just ignore them and go on your way. I find that the average Joe Public see's purebred dogs as elitist and snobby. And me weird for wanting to do it. Luckily I don't really care about that

I use wait and stay and I have a release word. Seems it has turned into yes for obedience and okay for home - not that I planned to train one for home but apparently I say okay just as I am about to go outside to train, go for a walk go somewhere. There okay is followed by scrabbling of paws on tiles and bumping through the dinning chairs to get out the door first!

Yes I can vouch for cows in a temper!! MIne are generally very even tempered. One got mastitis and we had to get her into the yard for treatment. We walked her in nice and slowly. We got her into the first yard with the vehicle, then got out to walk her through to the other yards and race on foot as per normal. Everything as per normal. She decided she was sick and sore and we could get lost!! She charged my FIL (who was 72 at the time) he managed to step to the side but she she was going aroudn him ina circle trying to knock him down. He lost his footing and fell down, she spun around got down on her knees and was about to try and squash him inot the ground. I grabbed the poly pipe flew through the fence and laid into her as fast and hard as I could, there was no way she was going to injure my FIL if I could help it. She was shutting her eyes because of the fact I was hitting as hard and fast as I could( I did accidentally hit my FIL once!!) It gave him enough time to get to his feet and get out of the yard. Only problem was I was driving her slowly back so by the time he got out I was in the middle of a large yard with a really pissed off cow. I managed to get her to turn slightly then bolted and rolled under the fence before she got to me. We decided to get the ute in the yard to move her to a smaller yard that we could move her from the opposite side of the fence. We got the ute through the gate then she decided she wanted to leave. Result? I just got the gate shut in time and she dented the back of the ute and moved it around 2 feet sideways. We managed to get her into the crush and get antibiotics etc but everytime I showed up she charged the fence. She seemed to be doing well, but was going to go to market due her temperment, when it was discovered her udder was starting to slough and she was euthed standing in the paddock. I have had a few other close calls as well

There is going to be a DVD available on how to do each exercise, not finished as yet. A bit further back in this thread there was a post relating to it.

So having little money means you butcher things while still alive and eat endagered species??? Sorry I don't agree A mallet or a knife doesn't cost much to at least ensure they are dead BEFORE they start cutting them up!

Ummmm sorry to be so blunt, but who cares????? We are not in the dark ages now.

That was the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. That doesn't happen at our own fish markets? Not with endangered species it doesn't!!!!!!!!!

Do You Cut Your Dogs Nails?
OSoSwift replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mine see the nails trimmers come out and Rommi does a commando roll and lands unpside down on my lap with her feet in the air ready to have them done. Lewis doesn't do that but will happily lay on his back to have his done. -
Sounds like a plan RS. Mine love it and the Bowen lady adores them and the feeling is mutual. I also get Bowen done on me and love it as well

My Bitch Is 7 Weeks Pregnant But Theres A Problem
OSoSwift replied to indigirl's topic in Breeders Community
I will guarantee the vet doesn't even know that you have a problem. Vet nurses fob people off all the time with excuses like that. I would be marching into the vets tomorrow and waiting until the vet speaks to you personally. I cannot believe he would not squeeze you in for a 10 minute procedure under the circumstances if he knew them. Ummm vet nurses do not always fob you off or have no idea. When I was a veterinary receptionist if we said the vet couldn't do it, especially if I had been told the above, the answer of "no we definately can't" would only have been given AFTER consultaion with the vet. Vet nurses are not all stupid and brainless and telling people excuses. I agree with asking to be informed if there is a cancelation. -
Just a little thing to think about if your dog has not had Bowen before don't train them or expect too much out of them for a couple of days afterwards. SOmetimes they can feel a little tender but it wears off quickly. Once they are used to it the only need the rest of the day after they are done off. Bowen fixed Lewis's back and has helped both mine a lot.
